I've got a kid and his dad whom I helped put CFW on their slim psp.
Since then the kid dropped the psp and they have asked me to check it out.
I flashed it back with original sony 3.90 fw so that they could send it back to Sony, the dad said that it was still under warranty.
I told them I would search the forums so here I am asking for help. There was another guy who had te same problem but with a phat psp so it would be nice to know what the exact problem is.
When he first turns it on the umd laser is moving back and forth, up and down. Then it stops. They already had the no umd and no autostart settings set before I got it. I even redid the pandora battery on it because someone told them that their flash1 was messed up.
I would assume that the umd cable got knocked loose or they would need a new laser assembly but just want to confirm it.
Thanks

Just send it in. Even if it could be fixable your best bet is to replace it since it has been dropped. Don't tell Sony that though.

Yeah I'm sure he's sent it back by now.
He told me Sony kept asking if he dropped it and he kept replying that it was in the hands of a teenager. I think he said he repeated it about 4 times before they stopped asking him.
But for other folks like the other guy who dropped it and didn't have a warranty I'm still curious if anyone knows if it's a problem with the umd drive or something else.
Thanks

It could be a motherboard problem since both things stopped working at the same time

I reflashed him on m33 and that didn't work and then I put him back on Sony FW so that he could send it in for repair.
Thanks

If sony does take the psp back for repair... I would recomend investing in a wrist strap, looks tacky but saved my psp a few times :P

I think my point here is being missed entirely.
Quote from my 1st post

The only reason I didn't ask the dad to leave it with me and let me take it apart was because he said it was still under the sony warranty
however the other guy with the fat psp had a similar problem and wanted to know if replacing the umd drive was the way to go. Not to be mean but I could care less if they dropped them. I just want to be able to say yes this is your problem and fix it without looking like a douche when I replace the umd drive and it still doesn't work.
Thanks

Hey guys just letting you know that the father and son came back by this weekend with the new slim psp back from Sony. I asked them if they got a letter or any info on what Sony fixed but they didn't get anything along those lines. Has anyone else had any luck figuring this out since the original post?
Thanks

i think i have an idea why it didnt power on but the umd im not to sure on as the ribbon for it is very tight and could have stayed in after a big knock
im not 100% sure on this but i know the function exsits in phones and im sure it does in the psp after dropping it may of times and it switching its self off automaticly
the power not comming on i think is part of the save function for the device.
for example if you happen to be doing something e.g. playing a game and drop the psp from a short hight of about 30cm the psp should auto switch its self off to ensure that no damage is cased to the systems software.
it on phones now adays as the get knocked around so much.
the force that the psp hit the ground could have cased the auto shut down to brake no allowing the psp to turn on
thats just a idea of what may of happened
but its good to hear they got it fixed in the end

Hey guys, umm, I know this thread's a little old, but i am having the same problem and i don't think there's a warranty (much less proof of purchase) it fell, it had 5.00 m33 fw. I didn't notice at first because the game it had loaded still played. after i turned it off it wouldn't load from ms or umd. the umd drive keeps spinning too.
