alright, i need some help if anyone could be so kind. I am using bittorrent to download, first and foremost.it started goes about 5 minutes then it stops and i have to restart my router to get back on the internet.do it over and over..and it keeps doing that. I did that shields up thing, it says stealth which means my ports are blocked..great..now i need to know if when i unblock my firewall (if i can find it or figure that out, am i putting my computer at risk at all? I mean that firewall is there to protect you..right? I have comcast don't know if that means anything. I personally don't know of any firewalls installed on my computer, but i'm sure there is something..right? Thanks for your help in advance

The problem with your router is most likely due to too many connections from the bittorrent program.
Which version of the BitTorrent client are you using?
Version 6 has the uTorrent interface.
Also you are going to need to clear Bittorrent through the router in order to have that port show cleared.
There are some excellent guides at PortForward.com Router Index.
I assume you are using Windows.
If you did not install a firewall,it is likely you are using the Windows firewall.
You can check at Start/Control Panel/Windows Firewall and double-clicking it will tell if it is active.
Comcast is important as they have been very active in interfering with bittorrent in general.
Depending on which version of BitTorrent you have, you may have an encryption option.
Clearing BitTorrent through your router and firewall properly will not pose a security risk.
You do have to be careful when choosing what to download as ther are fakes out there.

Sorry, I have looked at BitLord in the past (and just now) and I am not certain how it is done.
There are some connections settings at Options/Preferences/Advanced/Connection, but they are set to Auto (That can be changed) and I am not certain which sets max global connections.
As far as I know there is no encryption option in BitLord (but I could be wrong).
As to the router, what is the make/model of the router?
It does not make sense that it is taking you to Comcast.

i think i typed that wrong..it doesn't take me to comcast. it is telling me to go there to change my connection. and gives me the step. Is there a better program to use? If so, i'll get rid of bitlord and use something different. It was the first one on the list in a different forum of how to and where to. so i started with that. but any advise you have is helpful to me. thanks again..UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH i have to go to work...TGIF...

Azureus (now Vuze) and uTorrent are the most popular and both have encryption.
uTorrent is small and has very little impact on your system. uTorrent Download
Azureus uses more resources, but has more options and plugins. Azureus Download
Azureus also has Level 5 encryption designed for Comcast's sandvine, which interferes with bittorrent
(although I have Comcast and only have to use Level 2-and uTorrent's encryption works for me also).
Bitlord has been banned in the past from trackers. Banned Clients: BitLord, but I do not know the status now.
I have not seen anything about having to go to Comcast for forwarding a router before your post.
What is the make and model of your router?

All bittorrent clients have to be cleared through your router and firewall.
This is a guide for your router/azureus: CG814WG & Azureus Guide.
You may need to change to View/Advanced to set the port within Azureus for this guide.
BTW you were right it is a Comcast interface.
I am still not certain which firewall you have.
You have to set permission for Azureus (now Vuze).
There are several guides at: Portforward.com Firewalls.
There are some adjustments that need to be made within Azureus once you have cleared up the above.
You can check whether the port is forwarded properly by going to the Tools/NAT Firewall Test in Azureus.
Let me know if you questions along the way.

Do you have a green status light? Have you done speedtest's and set your upload to 80%? I would guess this is a public site, you have no way of knowing what any seeds have set their upload to, on a private site, seed's have to upload to maintain their ratio. And peer's you are connected to may have as much of the file as you, you might want to pause the download while they get more to upload. Always try to get files with a good seed to peer ratio. no, i've a yellow smile... i haven't done a speedtest because when i got to the website i had no idea how to do it so i closed it. and i've no idea what you're talking about.. and i'm sooo mad because i've uploaded more than the filesize of that file... and i still have more than 200 mb left...:( i'm feeling like crying... so sad... so angry arghhh
ok anyway i think it's a public site.. but yesterday i downloaded from that site and it was ok.. i think it depends on that file.. i've been trying to download it since yesterday but it's the same story so i decided to wait a LITTLE bit... anyway is there other way to explain, show me that? if no then it's ok.. i'll have to wait a LITTLe bit...
anyway thanks

Well, most routers contain Firewall's and Firewall's are the most common reason for not seeing a green status light. Port forwarding a router is necessary in that case as well as a couple of other thing's maybe.

edit: and once again mostly i'm uploading more than i'm downloading.. but i think it's better than yesterday.. at least sometimes it's a bit quicker.. i was at 60kb/s but then it dropped to 10...my swarm speed is more than 30 kb/s and i think it going up, my share ratio 0.944 and is going up and down and up and down..my mother doesn't love me, she's watcing online films and don't want to stop, i've 15 seeds and 5 peers
and now im uploading more than downloading...
edit 2: ok.. so i was downloading with the speed more than 100 kb/s.. and then i dropped to 10... TT.TT and my average swarm speed dropped to around 30 kb/s.. wonder what's happening... and i wonder if it's ok to edit my post like that.. it seems like a diary :P and i wonder if i'm off of topic...:P oh and my download speed is faster than upload.. and makes me a little bir happy but why did it drop like that??
edit 3: average swarm speed 17kb/s, peers 3, seeds 15, share ratio 0.274, download 12 kb/s, upload 3kb/s.. don't know why am i doing this... oh wait, i know why, i don't have anything to do i'm bored and i don't know what to do with myself.... and my mother turned on her computer again.. eh...

Nope, not a girl. Unfortunate name choice, Misty was our cat and I thought a couple of post's would be it. You forwarded your router awfully quick, do you have a green light? And have you set your upload speed correctly. Most speedtest's read in kb (kilobits) and I believe Azureus uses kB (kilobytes) 1kB = 8 kb. After downloading thousands of files, I've yet to see any malware. You might want to look at Newsgroups, here is a good site: http://nzbmatrix.com/nzb.php?category=Movies
