Open up a port in your router and then enter that port in your client. If you need to make a static ip so the port settings dont change. And btw you dont have a 100mbps connection....your lan speed you see in your desktop toolbar is not your internet connection. Wired lan is usually 100mbps while wireless is usually 54mbps, this is simply the transfer rate of data. DSL connections are typically rather slow, go to speedtest.net and post your real results so we have some type of baseline!
If you dont know how to set a static ip, go to start-run type "cmd" no quotes, then type "ipconfig /all" no quotes and post the info. At minimum you need to know your local ip, gateway and dns information to do this...all found using the ipconfig /all command. There is only so much people can do to help without out adequate information.
I have already opened up a port in my router and my bittorrent. my download speed is 733kb/s and my upload is at 234kb/s. I have my ip address, gateway, and dns information already. my dns ip was same as gateway so i looked it up on my router's status page. I have tried to use the guide to set up a static ip with portforward.com but I guess im doing something wrong.
On my router's status page, the internet port is giving me a different ip than what comes up with the command prompt.

733/8 = 92ish KB/s download speed. Dont know what you are getting now, but based on the speeds you reported 92KB/s will be around the max you see downstream.
The ip in your router is your external ip, the ip people see when you are connected to them. Ipconfig gives you your local ip, the ip your comp is using in your network. To set a static ip, simply go to
Connect to - show all connections. Right click the LAN connection, go to properties. Under the General tab, go to Internet Protocol (tcp/ip), click properties, then manually enter the info found when you used ipconfig /all. That is all there is to creating a static ip.
The bottom line is you are limited to your connection, with less then a 1 mb connection dont expect crazy speeds. In all honesty you need to switch isp's or get a better plan since it seems you are not too thrilled with current speeds.

Why is it that my brothers computer that is on the same router so much faster than mine? He runs at 1250kb/s down and 350kb/s up. I also set up my static ip.

Torrenting 101
1.Public Tracker?
2.Green Light in client
3.Number of connected seeders/peers?
4.Bro hogging the bandwidth?

Well im back with my two cents, Ive been running BitComet .091 for a couple of weeks now after upgrading from .086. As a bit client It does the job ,but ive always keep an eye on memory usage as ive seen it over 500 MB in task manager , ive havent let it get there with BC .091 but sure it will.
Anyway lately ive seen 232KB/s max DL with an average about 115KB/s. On this connection i cant upload more than about 16KB/s
I guess i dont have to say i dont use public torrents, but some popular ones are real speedy anyway.
I found several ways to go fast
1 popular ,popular , popular torrents dont have to be private ,but have a health over a 1000 dont waste time on crappy old weak torrents usually there is newer ones.
(ie. a cam torrent thats released on fri/sat is probably dead by mon) if you cant dl an average size torrent in under 12hrs give it up their better fish in the sea and that torrent is probably junk anyway.
2 Max connections beef them up , watch out your bit client Will eat the Bandwidth , at full speed i find it hard to connect to AIM , MSN messenger
3 the hard parts modems routers firewalls whatever , basically set them up.
4 time, i like to start a bunch of torrents , then after five or ten minutes stop the slower ones, and sometimes the faster ones instantly eat the bandwidth
BitComet settings are
half open (tcp/ip) 100 , i upped it 50 from .086
Max connections 400
Max connection per task 250
My connection
PAM ,DUN (1xrtt) (phone as modem ) (Dial UP Network)
its nice ;) but it suxs kinda

Hi fellows,
I'm having the same problem as most people, very slow downloads. I googled some speed tester sites and I averaged the results to: Download: 669KBps and Upload: 59.2KBps. Please Keep in mind that I am on one of four computers in my home network, however none of the other ones do any downloading. I am using port forwarding on my router, but I am not sure if I need more then one port forwarded to my PC. Do more ports open make things go faster? BTW right now I get torrent speeds of 6kBps and the highest I got was maybe 40kBps. I can access the internet and direct download stuff fine, like 100kBps-225kBps depending on the site but its just the torrents that are painfully slow. I also enabled R4 encryption since Rogers limits/blocks torrent traffic. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Finally, some decent info!!! Based on those test results (taken with a grain of salt) you should be seeing 90 KB/s, but obviously you are getting much better speeds via http. As you said, Rogers throttles bittorrent, so after doing what you do, do you see a green mark or whatever your client does to let you know ports are open?? Are you using public trackers (slow) or private trackers (fast)? All you can do on your end is forward your ports through your router and firewall, then hope connected peers have decent bandwidth. Please post the answers to my questions to see if there is anything we can do to increase speeds.

hello, I am experiencing trouble using Bittornado. All of my bittornado downloads are stuck at 90.5%. They have plenty of peers but 0 seeds and wont go any further. It has been like this for two days, I checked www.torrentspy.com and the .torrent has more than enough seeders, I'm just not connected to any. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to use private torrents these days, usually from demonoid and always look for lots of seeders (1800 in one case, though 22k leechers). Usually I get green smiles when I can actually DL something however even when I get 5kBps I get the green smiles.
PS: I just noticed that I had 2 torrents going.
1. From Mininova, 170MB, 18k seeds, 4k leechs, and it was going quite fast for me - 40kBps
2. From Demonoid, 6GB, 1.8K seeds, 22k leechs, and 5kBps if I am lucky!

LMAO that is nuts! You seem to be doing everything correctly, just are using sh!t trackers with a grip more leechers then seeds, nothing to do about that.

which tracker would u suggest because i was using bittorrent but got slow speeds so i tried bittornado (which i downloaded via bittorrent and reached about 40 kb/s which is the fastest anythings ever hit)the light in bittornado is black and there is a message in red saying
ERROR (8/27/07 00:24:09)
Problem connecting to tracker - (10065, 'no route to host')
i also seem to think this may possibly be caused by what i am downloading if anyone can help me please do just let me know what information i need to provide you with

Ok I'm back with the same problem guys. I am using Azureus and I have port forwarded on router and firewall. My downstream speed is at 975kb/s and up is at 60kb/s. My downloads were good at first but then after a week or so they have been very sluggish. The torrent keeps staying on yellow. It says that I might be having some NAT problems but I don't really know how to fix it =T. I also have another computer on the same router but he doesn't download much.

redscorpi,
I have bellsouth DSL with the westell modem. I tried to follow your instructions to configure the modem, but I have a problem. When I click "expert mode" followed by clicking yes, when the following page loads there are no buttons to click. No "configure" or anything. Why would it be doing this?
My setup:
Westell modem > Netgear switch > laptop

I doubt it, maybe Protocol Encryption or a port that other processes use like 480 or 1720.
