i just read that the GC discs are actually dual layered: http://atarilabs.com/meat/2001/0916_ngc.shtml
now this might be why we can't read them. if the GC uses two layers but only writes to the middle one, that would be a problem cause that's not the normal way of doing it or something.
might need a dual layer drive to read or write them.

as i said my nec 2500 with dual layer doesnt read them, and i think since the pioneer and this one are tested its good to say we tried the best quality burners and it wont work without a moddification

I think the programs out as of now rip the disc from something important.I think kamaswami is right about the disc though. It could be because of the actual programs building the disc that it doesn't recognize them. They are ripping probably files that are hidden or something probably needed.

I am using the Sony Dru-700A Dual Layered drive which is pretty nice.I haven't had a problem with it since I got it,and never had to mess with the firmware.I tried one of the GC discs, and it didn't pick it up as normal.I don't think it would matter if it did or not though, the actual disc would have to be emulated to build the image which burning the disc normal would fail to do or program.

Hello all good news and bad news. The bad news is that the rip from the disc is a dud (but if anyone wants more info on it feel free to message me) In the dolphin emulator i get an error saying "unknown county code" wether or not this is because of the game being pal i do not know (but highly doubt it) The good news is that even if the copy is working the copy protection still has to be broken so either way the barcode still has to be gotten around.
(by the way does anyone have an action replay or other third party disc? If so could you check if there is a bar code on that thanks)
This is a bit odd when i try the orriginal pdi01 format as a gcm it comes up as region code [] (an actual box) then crashes. And if i use the pdi it give me region f

to udlras..all gamecube discs have barcode, even action replay, freeloader or even the free cheat discs that come free with CUBE magazine (every month in the UK)..so i think only a hardware mod can get around the barcode protection

Actually there is the chip that is still being worked on,which is forgotten I bet and should be mentioned again.I heard that the peeps making it where actually playing software discs, just not games with it because of 6 bytes of read error.I never seen another update of the progress or anything though,so that sucks for real.I agree it has to come from hardware to break the codes seal.

I've been following this thread to the T and if their is a mod chip being developed or lets just say one is already out...how do we expect to copy the game since no program is able to read the GC discs?
OR did i miss somthing about someone making, not a working but a least a backup of a GC game?

Should a modchip come out that would perhaps modify the Gamecube to read mini DVD-R's I imagine the process of making a backup would be something to the effect of streaming the rip software to the Gamecube to rip the game to your PC then burn it to disc by some means.
PS2 - v8
Mod - Magic V
Burner - CenDyne (Pioneer) DVR-A05
Media - Anything Cheap
Gamecube w/Broadband Adapter
Phantasy Star Online
Animal Crossing Loader v1.4
Phantasy Star Uploader v1.1
Gamecube ISO Ripping Server v1.0.0.29

The way i was understanding it is that the problem is not burning the game it is booting the game because of the boot sector or barcode.
Maybe this chip they are talking about will bypass that similar to the swap magic

ok i just found something i cant believe. it was ANOTHER video of some people copying a GC game using mini CD-R. this video is made in a way so you cant say that its fake. check it out its called "BMM GC Hack 2" its on one of the popular filesharing programs.
im not talking about the lame movie everybody says is fake....because i also saw that one.

looks fake:
the shot doesn't focus on the gc and the tv at the same time, joypad can be easily unpluged and hooked upto seperate console of screen, the tv has probably got scart input for second console, when the camera does look back at the console it is trying to read the barcode NOT actual game cube data, ect. I am personally still very sceptical of these videos, if you where skilled enough to crack the GC then you could probably film a video that proves it inconclusively

Well the NEW GC chip will be coming soon after its released it will be just a matter of time before the hackers find a way to exploit it and use it for copyed games and backups. I bet we all will be able to buy a chip sometime in december. But the cracks groups will need time to figure out how to store a loader in the flash rom that will access the GC drive so I think in febuary we will see this chip really improving the scene.
