hy guyz.. i'm a newbie too as a registered user in this forum but i already read quite all of your posts..
i unfortunately downoaded the gant image of jap GT4 and as all of you i didn't succed to make a working copy..
anyway... i don't think it is the DVD+R DL the problem, since i saw on various sites on the net the iso of Champions of nonnath on a DVD9 and it works perfectly...
so the problem has to be another..
but please.. just try everything to work it out cos i really cannot wait for the european release of gt4..

Champions of Norrath was ripped to a DVD-R (not DL) by removing lots of rubbish data added to the image)

This is not the case with GT4 unfortunately.

Hi again, OK the rebuilded ISO with the file from second layer in it, didn't work with HDLOADER either.
This means: Either the problem is still, that the game searches for GT4L1.VOL on a certain LBA on a two layered disk (maybe PTP OPT thing) or there is a copy protection identifying modded consoles? I don't know if anyone remembers US version of "DINO Crisis" for PSOne which still had the japanise copy protection in it freezing with a screen informing you that it won't start on modded consoles. In this case we would need a patch (ppf-thing for the ISO)! What do you think? Has anyone encountered something like that with a PS2 Game?

I remember that when GT4 BMW Demo was released, it had time limit. And in order to remove it, special program was written.During this process, gt4.vol had to be extracted, some files in it had to be changed and then again compressed and put into .iso.

And that "rip kit" had program which extracted gt4.vol (from this bmw demo disk). So maybe this program/rip kit could extract gt4.vol from final version and this could be first steps to the "gt4_rip.iso"? Dunno, just idea...

P.S. I have that rip kit (it is in .zip format).

REMOVED
just look at it...
the bittorrent file of Champons of Norrath FullDVD9...
it is 6,5gigs so...
it doesn't seem a normal DVD-R
to be honest i saw a rip on 2 DVD-R but this is not the case of this file...
so DVD+R DL should finally NOT be the problem of GT4 in my opinion...
bye...

More info about extracting and compressing .vol files:

Here are the tools to extract and to rebuild the .VOL file inclusive tutorial.

http://www.alucard.cc/new/GT3PALNTSC_Morganator.zip

It works with GT3, GTConcept, GT4Prologue.

Extract the .vol file change what you want and rebuild the new file.

Other tools you need is IML2ISO, CDDVD Generator and a burning tool.

There is some software that will let Choose between Parallel Track Path (PTP) and Opposite Track Path (OTP) ? Specify the dual layer break point ? Specify a non-seamless or seamless dual layer break point. Its called DVD Studio Pro 3, but its for MAC. Its the only software I've found that has this option. Don't know if it would work for the game or not.

BlueNut,there are other software that have that option, one is Gear Pro Mastering edition, and I tried with it...
The thing is that the PTP option is for creating Masters, on DVD or DAT tapes, to be use for production... I tried selectin PTP but it said my drive wasn't capable of doing it, I have a benq DW1620, and proceeded burning the files with OTP...
It's a program designed for companies so I guess that it can be used directly with mass production "pressing" devices...

Yeah, seriously. I'm gonna place a pre-order on that game. It's too much hassle for a game that I won't even be able to understand. If you're so bent on getting a copy of it, wait for the US release, rent it, and copy it yourself (you'll still need Dual layer DVDs)

I think there is not point in buying original NOW. I'll better wait 4 more (or so) weeks and then will order PAL (!) original online. :)

To pay 75$ (+taxes) now and then after month and a half buy again original PAL version for the same price seems bad idea :)

YZFazz, I have to buy it now... :)
the PAL release is set in March, and in March-April I'll be taking exams at the university, buying GT4 at that time would be the death of my studies :)
now i have almost a month of "vacation" which i will spend driving around... :)

The game is worth buying, thats for sure, but it's the thrill of getting the backup to work, what keeps us going ;) But I have to admit, that I think about waiting for the US-Version, speaking of thrill, RESI4 is shipped today, maybe I'll spend the weekend killing zomies instead!

Regards to everyone!

ohh gotenks82 c'hai ragione...
pessimismo e fastidio...

now i translate for all other non italian users..
gotenks82 was really right..
GT4 means the end of social life... the end of relationship with girlfriends .. and the end of university career... just like any new Winning Eleven ... ;-)
