Okay, I'm a girl and I'm almost clueless when it comes to this stuff. I've seen a couple of threads here on Iron Man and burning with other software.

I'm having trouble... I stick in the Iron Man dvd and anydvd runs it... sometimes it works and seems to remove the protections and other times it says it can't read it...

So once I get it to work and the protection is off... I go to run clonedvd... the first couple of times, it looks like it's configuring and then it stops a bit into it and says that there's a read error and the system cannot read from the specified device..it says that if reading the media has failed, to clean the surface and try again.

I start over and then it won't start configuring at all.. that error message pops up right away....

What am I doing wrong? I've burned other movies without a problem but Iron Man isn't workin' for me.

Help pretty please? Thanks!

"Okay, I'm a girl"

moot point, unless you want us to make it one. (binkie7 feel free to chime in here)

"almost clueless when it comes to this stuff".

That's OK, it's what this site is all about, helping and education.

1. Are you sure that your AnyDVD and CloneDVD are up to date?
2. If you are getting intermittent reads I would suspect that the source DVD is indeed dirty or damaged.
3. I have not seen any reports that say that there are any known problems with Iron Man using ANY/CloneDVD.

You shouldn't have to "run" AnyDVD. If it is running, it will detect and remove the copy protection automatically.

@nicirocks

Hover your cursor over the AnyDVD icon in the lower right corner of your screen ( near the time/date ).

Like dailun mentioned...
Check the version to see if it's at least version 6.5.1.8, that is the latest "full release" ( not including beta releases ). If not, go to here ( http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html ) and download and install the latest version. CloneDVD should be version 2.9.2.0.

After that, try backing up your dvd again and let us know how it goes...

yeah, I have full versions of both... I can get anydvd to decrypt it but when I get to clone, it will only go so far SOMETIMES and other times it won't start configuring at all... that green error message comes up.... this sucks. :(

Try this...
On the AnyDVD icon near the time/date, right click on it and select RIP VIDEO DVD TO HARDDISK and have AnyDVD put the video files onto your Hard Drive.

Then use CloneDVD by browsing to the folder where you put those files.

This question really should have gone in the Iron Man thread, itself... :/

OK, my experience is this:

Given that AnyDVD detects the disc and copy protection method,

Anytime you get the "cannot read media" error, that's usually what it means. There is either a defect on the disc or it's dirty.

The defect may not be visible to the naked eye.

If you have 2 DVD drives, try ripping from the other drive.

Keep track of the sector that can't be read. If it sticks on the SAME sector every time, it is usually a disc defect, which you may or may not be able to fix with cleaning.

Sometimes it's an intermittent drive read error. In some cases I was able to "jiggle" the disc into reading past the bad spot by doing an eject/insert of the disc.

Sounds to me like you have a bad disc. (BTW, the DVD player can compensate for a single bit error but a cloning program will not)

If you are curious, you could go out and rent a copy and see if you can "back it up". I know that costs money and time, but will give you assurtances that your hardware isn't the cause.
