I am just wandering what is the feasibility of the ps3 ever being able to use backups.

Don't know...Don't care
Certain PS3's can play PS2 backups but that's as far as the rabbit hole goes son.

Do you have the skills to hack...er..reverse engineer something? If not then that shouldn't be a question.

A force of magical dust-throwing pixies guards its most inner sanctums. Said fairies hurl pixie dust at would-be hackers, turning them into grouchy and ornery pale reflections of their former selves.
...nah, but yeah, it's got tight security measures. Imagine a caveman trying to decode modern-day English. Hell, not even most modern-day English speakers can decode modern-day English.

Well anything can be hacked, you just need to be able to decrypt everything and know how the thing works. And all that takes time, and since Sony spent more money on protecting the PS3 hackers will require more time to hack it.
But thanks to Sony being cheap the PS3 isnt able to do what it potentially shoul dbe able to do. eg they havent paid the licences to use the most popular codecs. So really the PS3 wont be the centre of our entretainment centre until it gets hacked and ppl create homebrew services for it that Sony cant and wont make.
So all we have to do is wait. Or learn c++ etc and how electronics work and try hacking it ourselves :P

Blu-Ray is also a problem, as it costs a lot if you wish to burn PS3 games onto a Blu-Ray disc.
We will see a hack but people will be too busy playing the next Playstation.

True, the cost would be high to burn blu-ray.
We are currently in the process of getting married and our videographer, is recording the lot to blu-ray, so i went to maplins and various other shops to purchase a burner so i could make copies... 830euro! for the burner, lowest i found was 500euro without going online.
Shockin...... thats new technology for ya!

Congrats dude :)
AS far as price goes for Blu Ray burners, they are quite cheap, you can get an external LG BE06LU10 Super Multi Blue for under £200 here
Regarding the PS3,if its hacked to run the games of the internal harddrive, then Blu Ray burners wont be needed.

Price sure went down alot on the disks since I last checked. Is that a result of that organic ink they were working on?

SL BD-R's @ 2.67 each
BD Burner 4x @ $170
BD Burner 6x @ $180
I paid more for a 2x Plextor DVD burner +/- 10 years ago as well as about the same for the cost of SL DVD-R's....it's not the cost that's holding back anything.
I see... So I guess Sony is the only thing that's stopping homebrew.

I can't see why anyone would want to hack the ps3, the psp got hacked and now look at it. Nearly every game is garbage because nobody buys the games anymore because of CFWs. Seriously how many people backup PSP games....
Anyways im hoping it never happens, homebrew definitley, ps2 emulator/ps1 emulator definitley.
PS3 iso loader or some exploit to play ps3 games no way do i want that

I dont think saying that a ps3 that is ALREADY compatible to play ps2 games that can now load backups is a hack. If you can load a ps2 backup to a PS3 that is not ps2 compatible then yes I will give you that. Otherwise I would considered it an add on.

on a side note I doubt the PS3 will ever be hacked. If someone has not figured it out by now you can pretty much forget about it.

PSP games were garbage and always would have been really because of the control layout of the psp itself. Besides your card/strategy games.
Though I do agree that I don't want the ps3 to get hacked in a way that allows backup/pirated versions to be used, its what keeps all the dumbass little kids away from it because they have to pay money to play. And they wouldn't even have to pay for online either like with the xbox so they'd be all over it. I for one don't enjoy dealing with loud annoying ass kids on my games which they aren't even old enough to purchase.

the main reason people want to hace the ps3 is to play backups...right??ok..if you think about it,with all the stuff your gonna have to buy(blue ray burner,disc.etc..etc..)its probably gonna bcost u about the same as if you actually went out and bought the game.idk...if someone does hack it i would give them props but prolly wouldnt be interested in it...sorry..

Of course, if you can rip those games to the PS3's hard drive using the PS3's own Blu-ray drive... 'cuz, y'know, you already have a BD drive right there...
But yeah, even then, you'd have to have a freakishly large hard drive to store a reasonable amount of games.

TRy telling SAnDisk that, they are stating that their new SD cards have the potential to store 2TB of info!
