Is Memento32 + Memor32 or w/e a good deal? Is it a good modchip that won't die unlike the stupid ass Crystal Chip 2.0 SLE?
That stupid Crystal Chip died on me and now I can't play anything but Music CDs on my PS2. Me and my dad aren't experienced this at all, but my dad wants to try to open the PS2 this weekend to see if he can remove the Crystal Chip modchip. Is it a good idea?

I think it was either a V5 or V6.
300001 R or something, or 300003 R. Sorry for being inaccurate.
Do you think we should try removing the modchip if it will actually reallow my PS2 to read discs again? it's a PAL one. Too bad we don't have experience with removing modchips.
If it would work, what should we know before opening?

Hello Themodman! lastnight i was playing star ocean 3 (back up dvd-r Philips)
then after 6 hours i got tired and i switch off my ps2! after 2 hours of rest i want to resume playing again but my ps2 cant read my cd-r anymore... dvd games wont play but cdr's works fine... what seems to be the problem? i tried cleaning the lens but still it cant read dvd's...
it tries to read my dvd-r, the cd spins and the laser goes up and down but after a few seconds it stops! is my laser already dying? T_T
can it still be repaired by adjusting the dvd pot? and can you please show my a picture and a guide on how to do it! (it says Disc Read Error everytime i put a dvd game) cd-r's works fine...
Please help me i cant afford to buy a lens its to expensive in my country!
Thanks a lot in advance !!!!!

if you dont have any experience opening the console and removing a mod chip you may find it too difficult to do. that model in particular is a bit of a jigsaw puzzle to put back together. there are lots of guides you can download that will show u how to open that model, if u need i can send u a link. removing the chip with a soldering iron will not be too difficult, as long as your careful and very gentle, u dont want to damage any of the tracks.
see if it will play all games if u do remove it. if it doesnt im sad to say that you will have to invest some money in getting repaired. in my opinion it would not be worth spending the money on a model of that age. Laser will probably be getting weak as well. let me know what u decide to do.

I've sent my PS2 for repairs once. We had a disc tray jam once, and me and my dad fixed it ourselves. But than somehow in the process we killed the Modchip as the PS2 would not read ANY games anymore.
We sent it to FixMyPlaystation.com and they said our Modchip's dead, and not even replacing the lens worked. They also said they don't mess around with modchip removal/installation, so they couldn't do anything about the Modchip.
I just hope removing the chip will fix the problem.
So, you mind posting any helpful guides to opening the PS2 up?

when u had the problem with the tray, it probably caused the white cogs in the dvd assembly to be out of sync. without knowing the exact model i can only give u a rough guide i will also supply a link to help u. when u open up the dvd compartent you will either see one white cog or 2, if there is just one, try adjusting it and see if it works, keep adjusting it franctionly each time. let me know how u go. here is a link to guide you.

i forgot to add if there is 2 white cogs, you will see each will have tiny little dot on each cog, allign them so that the dot is in the same position on both cogs.

when your looking at the laser you should also see 1 white cog, adjust this white cog fractionly and see if it corrects the error. here is a guide to help you. please be careful. you sound like you know what you are doing.

So you're saying FixMyPlaystation screwed up on the repairs? I dunno. When someone sends them a system in addition to trying to fix the problems that were mentioned in the emails sent to them, they do an overall checkup of the PS2 for additional problems.
Here's one of the emails I got from them:
Quote: Sorry, but as in most cases where people have modchips and disc read
errors... your modchip is dead.
Your laser seems to be ok, but the modchip can't control it anymore.
Quote: Don't know what killed it, but replacing the laser had no effect. Only music CDs will play.
They also said they have no way of knowing if replacing/removing the chip will solve the problem.
Although, when I start up my PS2 BootManager comes up, but no discs are read. Although, before I was having this problem occasionally I had to reinstall BootManager and the Firmware because the modchip would randomly stop booting them up. Damn faulty modchips.

yeh i know what im doing xD... its just that i cant afford to buy another laser because its too expensive in my country, I already did everything (adjusted the white cog, azimuth, cleaning the internal and external lens) The only thing i havent done is the adjustment pot settings. Will this solve my problem if ill adjust the dvd pot by less than 20% ohm of the factory setting? I think my laser is already worn out!

Hi ModMan, let me see if you can help me.
I installed Duo3 Ultra in slim V12 PS2 console. Everything is checked many times. All wires are inserted in vias rather than solder pads. I did this even using optical microscope so everything is 100% correct and there is 3.3V on the modchip. Average length of wires is ~10cm in very tidy order running them parallel with the board. I didn't use any heavier gauage wires for power so I don't know is this an issue or I don't see why it should be.
Anyway PS2 boots fine except that I don't notice any different boot screen or does it have to be?
Is there a problem in game copying? I used Alcohol 120% and DVD+R media.
