yes it connects to the internet at the gameos and when i type ydltext at the kboot screen it takes me to the linux check screen it says that i have a connected network and i still get the temp failure in name resolution error

I have the same problem & also tried ydl command but then still nothing. were you able to make this work.
DavGerm4 i just joind this board, thanks for the guide but we're still having problem here. i burned the DVD in 4x speed also 1 with maximum speed. still getting the same problem quoted above. what else am i missing. also tried ubuntu still the same problem.

Hey, I don't come here that often for the Linux anymore. But, I would recommend looking for the Tutorial on installing Ubuntu Linux on the PS3! I think it is so much better, and it supports the WiFi that is built into the PS3. So go to the search bar, and look for the Ubuntu Linux for the PS3 installation!

I v just found a program called tversity which will stream wireless's from my pc to my ps3 and i can either watch already converted films from my pc's h.d ,or it wil convert as streaming (a little lag as i've only a crap laptop.I use "free utube to ipod converter" very fast and will convert 4 movies at a time,takes about 4 hours for all four.

What does this have to do with installing YDL? To answer your question though yes it transcodes on the fly(converts while streaming).

Dav ... thanx for the info. i've tried ubuntu ... am getting the same thing.
what am i missing?! please help! thank you.
was wandering if you can advise me on my ydl installation problem in my ps3. i got 40gb version with (system v.2.01) 2 usb ports. burned ubuntu iso (lastest) burned YDL (5.02) & (5.0) both burned in 4x also tried maximum speed when burning the ISO. so i got a lot of DVD now with linux on it.
i was able to install the bootloader. but then when i get to kboot. that's where am stuck. i tried install & installext but nothing comes out except for - g ... then tried ydltext still same thing - g ...
what am i missing here ... i did my own reading already but some guy with the same case wasn't answered. hope to hear from you soon. thank you kindly.

A few questions...
Will only a USB keyboard & mouse work?
Do you have to burn it as an ISO?
Heres what i did
Install it with the control pad, followed it etc
It gets stuck on kboot then resets itself now i cant do fuck all with my PS3, whenever i turn it on it goes to the install screen and gets stuck on kboot so i insert the cd it saying something failed then it turns itself off.
So how the hell am i supposed to play my ps3 games now?

You should read more in to things before you jump straight in and do them...
Yeah, you have to use a keyboard and mouse.
And use Nero or something to burn as image on a DVD.
If you want to get back to the PlayStation XML then hold the powering on button for 5 seconds when the console is off, wait till it beeps twice and then it will go straight back into the PS3 XML.

hey thanks playin games again now
Just bought USB keyboard & USB Mouse
Mouse works fine
It recognises the keyboard from accessory settings but i cant type anything with the keyboard, any suggestions?>
also i burned the DVD from nero as a data DVD, and i extracted the files instead of burning it as an ISO, that make any difference?

managed to install it apart from near the end it keeps saying
An error occured unmounting the CD. Please make sure youre not accessing /mnt/source from the shell on tty2 and then click OK to retry

i said it couldnt find some file then that unable to unmount CD came up
is this because i didnt burn the image i extracted the files from the ISO and burnt them as a DATA disc?

hmm ok just burned it as an IMAGE
except now when i get to select the keyboard settings the next screen says
Select media type that stores the image files or sumfin like that
when i click CD ROM DRIVES
it says the yellow doz linux cd isnt in any of my drives :S

the controller won't work, you'll need to use the keyboard and mouse, but why would you want to use the controller on linux? it just defeats the object of making it into a pc

Hey guys I just managed to install linux with a keyboard only. I'm getting a wireless mouse soon but how do I return to the normal ps3 dashboard! I'm sitting here and I want to play some games. My xbox live ran out so till I buy some more I want to play resistance online lol.

there is a way by running command, but the way i do it is by holding the on button for 5 seconds and just pop straight back to the xml! i never use linux, i cant get the wifi working. it was pointless thing to install but ... im a messer i guess! merry christmas folks

You got more than 30 posts. I'm at 2200 right now and at 2500 you change to Addict. Of course post count doesn't really mean anything...
