Hey!

First poster long time reader =P

I bought a PS2 phat off some chick for 5 bucks and i wanted to replace the lens cus it doesnt read games at all..
Tried cleaning the lens - Didnt work.
Its an SCPH-39004 model.

What type of lens works with this model?
Its got the 4 screw cover and on the lens itself theres the word "SONY".

Thanks for the help :)

here you go..

The lens you NEED to clean isn't the little "eye" on the top, but the large lens below and the 90 degree prism/mirror.. the lens especially seems to get very greasy/cloudy as it sits horizontal (think designers intended ps2 always to stand on end which makes all optical parts vertical)

very old phat like that.. might not be laser at fault but a chip gone (bloody memory crashed.. I did know what it was called 6 years ago)

I have stripped cleaned and rebuilt more than a few, always with mixed results. Most were found to have gone weak, with data eyeheight over carrier too low for reliable reading. Experimented with adding amplification to raw signal (after carrier demuxing) but that messed up the laser focus control timings.. discontinued work when the price of a good reading ps2 dropped below the cost of a replacement laser

So basically what you're saying is that the lens on top isn't the one I'm supposed to clean?
I'll disassemble The console and have a look around. This time I'll just disassemble the whole console and not just the top disc compartment.

Thank you for your help ^^
