Hi everyone.
I received a chipped slim PS2 from a friend of mine,
and when he gave it to me he told me that he had trouble with reading ps2 games..
Anyways, he gave me a few backup DVD's with the PS2, When I tried playing them, the reset light turns green and about a second later turns back to red.

The weird thing here is that I tried to play PS1 games on it and they worked just fine.
I thought that maybe the games that he gave me were not good or something so I downloaded games in order to try them on the PS2 but same thing happened,
Then I just inserted a few blank DVD's from different brands and again it turned off..

At first I thought that the lens were broken so I tried cleaning them a little, but then i realized that if the lens were broken it would just display some error on the screen, so I guess it's something like a blown fuse..

Does anyone have any idea of what's wrong with it?
Thanks in advance.

PS.
If it matters, I kept the reset button pressed a few times that I tried to load the DVD's and that caused the green light stay on, but i had just a black screen on the tv when i tried it.. (I tried letting it stay like that for a while but nothing happened)

Hello welcome to the forum

In the future you may not wish to talk of downloading games. It is considered piracy by most.
Always good to read forum rules.

It would help to know what mod chip you have installed in the PS2. There may be an issue with it.
Sounds like its stuck in PS1 mode.

Your correct in that if the laser is the problem, there should be some message with 'Disc read error' or similar.

You would also hear your laser trying really hard to read the disc.
