Recently, I tried burning Xenosaga 3 Disc 2 to a blank Verbatim DVD, and the procedure failed at least five times before it worked. That means I wasted five discs, and I tried burning Mega Man X Collection today and got the same result. This time, I wasted three discs and still haven't succeeded in burning it (I wanted to ask for help here before trying again). I don't know why this keeps happening; I used to be able to do this with no problems. I used DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn, but the procedure fails 80% of the time. To elaborate a bit further, I get some error message when it happens, but I don't remember exactly what it says. It gives me the option to retry or cancel, but obviously retrying it doesn't work. What is up with this? How can I avoid wasting more discs in the future?

How fast are you burning your discs? There could be a number of different problems causing this, ranging from settings in image burn, or dvd decrypter, to aspi driver problems with your dvd drive, or maybe the whole spindle of discs are crap (I know that sucks, but it happens)

For starters, I would try to burn something else on your media (maybe a movie or something) and also, if you are not doing so now, try to use a very low burn speed, 1x or 2x is good when burning games and movies.

Also, let me know what the error you are getting is, that will be useful to know.

I burn them at 2x and sometimes I try 4x as well. It may be the spindle of discs, but I've burned a few other games (although I did waste some doing so, but not as many). I'll let you know what the error is as soon as I try it again tonight.

I don't recall weather it was verbatims or something else, but I remember one type of disc gave me hits and misses years ago. I know verbatims will work, because I have some burned on them. I mainly use imation, or memorex now (usually which ever is the cheaper). But anyway, ya, let me know the error.

I use Verbatim.

And now it decides to work when I try burning it today, so no error for now. XD I'll let you know if/when I get it again, however.

What type of Burner do you have?

Using the log file in imgburn will tell us the problem, if you can take a screenshot of it or copy/paste it.

I'm not sure about that. I use my brother's PC to do this since my drive no longer reads DVDs. I will let you know when I find out though.

hi Artofn00b,
1) if your burning fail in half/other part of burn proces many times, its NOT wrong medium(of course, if your empty dvds are OK)
-try rip the game again(and check your hard drive in PC for cluster errors-just with Windows scandisc).
2)

-burning with errors NOT respond with burn speed-because, if you burn with wrong speed, you "only" cant play this game on PS2, but burning with errors is mayby wrong maked .ISO/.MDS; and, this same is about maker of disc (verbatim or sandisc..); i use this one: tesco DVD-R , or other cheaper noname discs.
3)

-when he have problem with aspi, than hes cd/dvd drive cant call any dirver=no any 1 program(include Windows Explorer) will show, what is on disc, and, at all time you call this drive you see some error=no burn
4) burn and rip all games with DVD Decrypter , at all time on 2.4x(i never got dvd, which support slower burn speed); dont worry if sometimes DVD Decryter write: writing speed 3.6x, i got it many times and copy disc was OK; sometimes i got burn problems with SONY dvds, this dvd do not support speed under 4x, and 4x is MAX speed for poss. to play on PS2, so be carefully with writing speed wroted on cover of dvd

good luck
