Playing movies on PS2 from External HDD via USB?

Hi

I was wondering if it was possible to play movies from your external HDD via the USB port on the front of the (original model) PS2 without Modding? I don't want to play movies that the PS2 doesn't support and you need SMS (or whatever its called)for, I just want to play movies in the same format that they are when you burn them to a DVD to play in the PS2 (From the External HDD). Thanks.

im not sure but i think if you put the video_ts folder on root of your usb hard drive run sms and pick usb

The PS2 won't recognize the USB drive unless its modded, or you have a cheat disk which comes with Media Player.

IT needs some sort of software, mod to recognize the USB drive.

So if you want to play movies in their Original Movie format such as Video TS, then your best just to keep playing them with the PS2 drive.

And even if you were to mod it by chip, software or whatever method, the SMS player has limitations on Video TS format

It is much better with .avi, .divx files.

thanks for clarifying smokyrain i only used sms for .avi and .mp3 alwas burnt dvd format to disc

Yes you would need too mod it in some manner.

fmcb 1.8 is the best way anymore - link

Just check under the 'Installation Tab' for ways to install it.
Read the user guide also.

As you need to be able to run ELF files, which are applications for the PS2.

Once you launch SMS you can set up to watch from USB drive.
