i need help i have a moded PS2 and i wanted to play a game which only came up in japan.... so i download the iso; then i patch it with ESR patcher( my friend told me i needed to patch it so that it will play in the PS2) and finally i burned it to a dvd-r at 4x speed using imgburn.... when i put the burned ISO into the PS2 it acts like its going to play but then fades to black( it still spins but nothing happens). i wana know if im missing something to play it. since its the first time i try this. my other friend has the same game and he uses a hacked memory-card to play it. but my friend( another one) says that i dint need a hack/moded memory card..... what else do i need???? i really wana play that game.... what else can i do?

Be more specific. Do you have a fat (original style) PS2 or a slim? Is it soft-modded, chipped, or do you use swap magic? I can't believe people are still burning games to play nowadays.

When you said your PS2 is modded, I assumed it is chipped (mod chip). If this is the case, you do not need patching of any sort. The patching will actually make the disc not readable if booted on a chipped console.

Here's what you need to do. Buy an original style PS2, have it modded (whether with software or hardware), attach a HDD, and install/load games directly from it. It will save you lots of time and money on wasted disc.

hmm...looks like you have a modchip installed...you dont need the esr patch to play if you have a modchip installed....jus pop it in and it shuld work...

it probably isnt working coz
1)media is not proper..or
2)downloaded file is corrupt..

mostly its problem of the media...
use verbatim or sony (if not available...moser baer also will do)

Tdk is very good media....considered to be the best
it is recommended to write the ps2 games at 8x speed(half of the speed written on the disc)

im not sure what the problem is..
but do you get the rsod?
try taking some backups from ps3iso.com
you can contact me there (Speedsys)

ummm I can say I did get a red screen saying please insert ps2 format disc but the ps2 is not broken cause I can still play all the games I bought. it's just when I backup a game by myself it couldn't be recognized by my ps2 and I kinda tried the best way of backuping a game. I'm gonna try to download an ISO in ps3iso.com and see if it will work but the server/website is down. and this is one of the ways I tried burning a game

example: with nero 8 I use essentials-->image,project,copy-->disc image or saved projects-->select the ISO-->select write then set write speed to 8x then checked verify data on disc after burning-->burn

new Question
1.do you think something is missing in the options like a burn ps2 .iso option in my nero? cause I couldn't see any ps2 options in there just "burn image or saved projects"

2. does a trial version of alcohol 120% burns a ps2 iso as well as a registered versions? because I've tried this version of alcohol 120% youtube.com/watch?v=kmlBRmmRDww and ofcourse didn't work also

It can be one of 4 things:
-Low Quality Disc
-Burning media at too fast of a speed
-Disc Type
-Mod-Chip mode switching

Nero is a very good software but I suggest you to use DVD Decrypter. It's basically fool-proof. It's free and it's best used for making 1:1 copies of PS2 DVD games (as well as DVD movies). It what I used to use during the "playing burned game disc" era. Nero is good for making PS2 DVD & CD copy also. CloneCD is best for making rips of PS1/PS2 CD games.

When burning a PS2 game disc or ANY game disc, don't cut corners - use quality blank DVD's/CD's and burn at lowest speed you can select, not half the writing speed & not 8x (8x is already high enough as it is). Quality medias are Ritek Ridata, Taiyo Yuden, Silver Thermal, Verbatim, etc... Also, make sure your PS2 mod-chip support DVD-R, DVD+R, or DVD-+R/RW, etc. Not all chip support all disc type and this can cause a problem also.

Regarding "I did get a red screen saying please insert ps2 format disc but the ps2 is not broken cause I can still play all the games I bought" = symptoms of a chipped PS2. Depending which chip you have installed on your PS2, you'll need to set the PS2 into "certain" mode. This is very typical with older mod-chips. Mode settings differs from chip to chip and does not work the same as the other. The most typical is:

*Power off PS2 completely and switch off rear main switch. Switch on rear main switch and tap eject button (enables PS2 boot mode for some chips)
*Power off PS2 completely and switch off rear main switch. Switch on rear main switch and press & hold eject button for 5 secs (enables PS2 boot mode for other chips)
*With PS2 power on, press & hold front power button until console powers off (enable stealth mode, for online gaming)
*Tap front power button twice (enable PSX boot mode for some chip or enables stealth mode for other chips)
*Press and hold triangle & circle during boot (access the configuration menu)
*Press and hold triangle & circle during boot (disables stealth mode)
*Press triangle & circle during boot (access the configuration menu for some chip)
*Press triangle (access Apps Manager, if installed)

Also, all older and alot of newer mod-chip does not support DVD9 or Dual Layer (DL) disc and multi-disc games. The important thing is to figure out which chip you have and figure out what mode or settings to put it in. Unless you have a chip that auto detects (which obviously you don't) you'll need to configure the settings properly.

Additional Info - Try making a backup of a PS2 "CD" game (disc with blue back are CD's and silver back are DVD's). Boot it up and see if that gets pass the red screen. If it does, then your laser is going out and probably can no longer read DVD's. If it doesn't, try one of the boot method above (these are just a few method, there's many more method).

the type of MODCHIP I HAVE IS THE one that you have to press and hold the power for 3 seconds(from stand by mode or red light then press and hold power) to play a "PS1" game
but that's just for playing ps1 games but in playing a ps2 game you can just put the game disc and play like playing an original.. no menus, no prompts etc. my ps2 works like that.

maybe it's in the type of DVD writer I have.. I couldn't determine who made my DVD drive my PC is an acer aspire ax1800 when I look at dvd drive cover it says DVD multi recorder and a BIG RW written at the left side and a small DVD+R DL written below it.

a moderator in other forums replied to me that Supermulti is a term used by LG but when I try to set IMGburn BOOKTYPE to LG and choose for:Drive(For DVD+R Media) it just UNKNOWN(FAILED!) Reason:Invalid Command Operation Code says in the "Current Setting"
I'm using TDK DVD+R it is said that if you are using this you should set booktype to DVD-ROM which seems cannot be changed but the moderator also said that you can also use DVD-R Verbatim. do you think If I use DVD-R verbatim I don't need to change booktype settings? and he also mentioned that the Imation DVD-R I'm using might not be compatible with my ps2.
