PS2 stopped loading backups

A few weeks ago, I bought a PS2 from a friend. I tested it and it worked perfectly, both original games and backups (using Magic Swap 3.6). Because this was during a period of exams, I decided to put it away.
Recently, I reconnected the console to the TV, but now the Magic Swap doesn't load any backups. Every time I select Load Program, the disc starts to spin and then, after a few seconds, something red flashes and the TV screen becomes black and nothing happens.

I can't understand what happened. A few weeks ago it worked and I haven't touch the PS2 since then. What could have happened? And what can I do to run backups again?

It's very hard to say what the problem is here.

Why not do a mcboot on that ps2? I think its a much better way then doing it the swap magic way. It's also very easy and would allow you to debug this much better or even use hdloader.

We would need more info to determine the problem. Could be alot of things. Record any sounds you hear or any movements anything that the original does not do.

i wonder if you can attach an external dvd drive via usb to check if its dvd drive.

that happened to me too i smashed my ps2 with a hammer, had to buy a new one...
