Hy
I tried this swap trick (link), but it didn't really work.
I sucessfully opened the ps2.
I own an original copy of grand torismo for ps1.
But when I insert this one, I only get an error that the ps2 couldn't read the disc.
What can I do?
And I was also wondering if the same swap trick also worked if I would insert a dvd with a video instead of a ps1 game?
I hope someone might know what's wrong, and please let me know the solution.

Thanks in advance

Hy,
things changed. I got the grand turismo working, but the swap trick is still not working.
When the ps1 logo appears, you should swap the original disk with the backup disk.
I did so, but then the disk doesn't rotate that fast anymore, and the ps1 logo screen freezes, and nothing happesn anymore.
Anyone?

PS: might the problem be, that I have no ps2 memory card? I only have a ps1 memorycard.

You shouldn't need a memory card at all. The swap trick doesn't seem to work with all games though. If your using a ps2 fat version then you have to use cd-r disks or dvd-r for dvd games. The fat can't read a cd+r or dvd+r. Also cd games must be burned at a faster speed and wont run if burned at 4x. Try around 16x and if that doesn't work try a bit faster burn. The swap trick will only work with a ps1 original game. What are you using to burn the backups with? I use clone cd and it works great. I can get you a link with the download and the patch so that your not limited to 20 days of use if you like. Hope this helps you.

Sorry it took a long time to reply, but I've had a busy time.
Now I got some free time and I really want this thing to work.
So let me give you some more detials.
First of all, it seemed that I had my backup burnt on a dvd+r.
So I did it again: now I have have a cd-r with a ps2 game on it.
The difference now is that disc keeps rotating while with my dvd+r it stopped.
I've burnt it with alchohol 120% on a speed of 48x, so I think that would be allright.
My game also is a PAL version because I live in Europe and I have a ps2 FAT.

The problem keeps the same, my screen freezes on the ps1 logo.
I have actually no idea why it doesn't work. I keep wondering if it has something to do with the swapping itself.
Now I put in the orignial, when the ps1 logo appears I wait for the disc to slow down, then I change it and wait.
I there something wrong with that or is that the right way?

The swap trick only works with ps1 games and With the fat style you will need a flip top to boot a ps1 game because the disk tray will sense that it has been opened. The idea is to trick the ps2 into thinking no swap has taken place. You have to get the right one for your version console. With the model # and the first letter in the serial number I can tell you which version you have. I would also recommend getting the swap magic disks with the flip top so you can boot ps2 cd and dvd backups and imports. I paid about $25usd for mine and it came with the disks. I did have to shop around to get it for that price though. I usually burn my backup cd's at 18x speed to fast or slow can cause an issue. If you already have a flip top then try waiting till the black screen right after the ps1 logo and do a quick swap. Quick is important. It took me a bit of practice and its easy to scratch the disk so I'd find a cheap original that you don't care much about or have more than one copy of.

I have opened up my ps2, isn't that sufficient to make the ps2 think that no swapping has happened?
Oh and what do you mean with: "you have to get the right one for your version console?"
What do I need to get? And where can I find the serial number?
