Hey guys, i have 2 original games, Call of Duty WaW and Tekken 5 which have gone all scratched and sometimes stick and crash at some points, so i ripped them both using alcohol 120% and i read threads about how to burn PS2 DVDs. Using alcohol, Set burn speed to 2X or 4X...i used 2X... and set data type to "Play station 2 " thats what i did. THen hit burn. After the burn , i put the games in my phat ps2 and it did read them, and yesss my PS2 has a modchip inside...because i alreaddy play other backups on it and whenever a game boots, under the "playstation2" loggo it says " Modbo V2 "... jus so u know, the DVDs im using are Verbatim DVD-R, 4.7GB, 16X ... a few question...
Where am i going wrong, i read that verbatim DVD-R were the right media ?
Or to boot these backups do i need to use software like swap magic?
Any help is greatly appreciated...

dont know about modchips but i use the FMCB 1.8 and it works fine without the modchip. try to install it on your memory card and then before burning those games try to patch them and burn at speed 4x (this is what i do)

Hi
You need to convert your game from PAL to NTSC to get it to work on your PAL playstation2, though you cannot run NTSC games on a PAL Device this is what we call patch, there is another method you can follow if the conversion did not solve the problem is that you have to patch the DNAS and IOPR of the game, more about this method can be found here : http://www.windzdirect.com/FileZ/tutorial.htm

Ok you have a modchip installed - modbo v2
Try burning the images at 4x and see if there is any difference.
@ darbinet - that tutorial I gave you is only for playing games on USB drives. You don't have to do that for burning DVD backups.

Do you know what firmware you have on your modbo v2.0
It could be you need to upgrade your firmware to be compatible.
I had read that that modchip was never very stable. The newer versions are better.
Your problem either lies with the modchip - it has a problem
The disc you burned, or you have a dirty lens
So try cleaning the lens
Try burning on different DVD-R at 4x speed.
Check your firmware and try To enter the Configuration Menu, hold TRIANGLE AND CIRCLE at power on.
Make sure your settings are correct

well if there is an update could you point me in the right direction, like where do i go get this update? Trust me its not the lens, the PS2 reads old backups i made with 8X Verbatim DVD-Rs so im guessing its just a compatibility issue here.. the backups load perfectly like originals, no hangs, no crashes, jus perfect... where as these new ones are giving me a head ache, and the chip should be working correctly, coz this is the first tim this is happening to me, so if you can please tell me how to update the chip id really apreciate it... ( by the way the configuration method doesnt work, i tried holding circle and triangle upon boot, but theres a slight delay, like 3 seconds then it boots to the main " sony entertainement " screen ... any other way to get into the chip config menu ? )

You probably don't have the config installed then.
No worries.
Ok thats good to know all other backups played fine using Verbatim 8x DVD-r
That could also be the problem, since for the new backups you said you used 16x.
Could be your burner likes the 8x Verbatim better
So you could try using Verbatim 8x first.
As for firmware updates, I would talk with the guys over at sksapps.com about that in their modchip section.
They know more than me about modchips.
Just tell them your modchip, and PS2 version and how all other backups worked great, just not these newer ones.
The more info you give in a post, the better help you get.

I was thinking different discs as you said your older backups were burned on Verbatim DVD-R 8x, and your new discs are 16x.
I am just saying a lot of burners don't like the 16x for PS2 games or they are not burning properly.
So either try that, or if you have a different burner to use the 16x discs, then try that.
I hope that made sense.

Hi there i dont know if this will help as i have a slim ps2 not the fat one you are using but its worth a try right?
I also bought 100 16x verbatim s and could not get a single game to load after wasting 20 or so disks and after lots of posting and reading i finally got my disks to load every time and all i did was burnt them @ 16x rather that 2x,4x or 8x, i hope this might work for you!!
Just so you know I use dvd decrypter to take the image then i patch with ESR, burn @ 16x and Use the Free MCBOOT method to load them and 30 games later and not so much as a single skip has happened. At first i thought that i had bought incompatible media for my ps2 but since i started burning at 16x ive been so pleased with the results that i wouldn't go back to any other media.
Here is a link to my thread if feel like reading through the problems i was having and i hope you get yours sorted soon. Ill check back in to see if your successful
good luck

Hi,I have had a bit of trouble with a new back up i.e.Kamen Rider Cliamax Heroes.I use swap magic and the games loads but gets stuck at the "Now loading" screen.
Used Mitsubishi disks (Basically Verbatim here in Japan) at 4x and then 2x.All other backups are working except this one particular game.Any advice?
Cheers

Its a small DVD game, are you using DVD-R
I would try burning it faster at 8x and see what happens. I know it works as a backup, but not sure if people are using ESR r9b or Swap Magic.
