Hi all! I've spent the past 2 hours searching online and reading threads but I'm still none the wiser. I hope you guys can help me out. Here's the situation:
I want to make a back-up of my FFIX game (original NTSC-U), apply a translation patch (my mom's English isn't that great haha), and play it on my slim PS2 (SCPH-70000, has Magic Keys). I've played several NTSC-J games using the swap trick and never had any issues, but the backups I've made don't work for some reason. All I get is the PS1 splash screen *without* the PS1 logo and *without* the SCEA text, and it just stays that way forever.
I ripped the image file with Alohol 52% as an ISO file (speed 4x, also tried 2x), applied the patch with PPF-O-Matic (filename: Slus_012.51), then burned the disc with CloneCD (speed 4x, also tried 1x). My discs are Verbatim CD-Rs (80mins).
1. Do I need to apply any other patches to make the game work? I read something about copy protection in FFIX, and "outer rim checks" or "media checks"?
2. Does the patch have to have the .ppf extension? The one I downloaded is supposed to work for both ePSXe and physical consoles with the NTSC game and the writer says to use PPF-O-Matic, but the patch file ends in .51 (???). I've tried applying it as-is (by selecting "all files" when searching for it) as well as by simply adding .ppf to the end. The patching was apparently successful in both cases (???) and only took 2 seconds (???).
3. Do I need to use other settings/programs to extract/burn the disc image? I've read that 4x is too low for CDs and PSX games and 8x should be used?
4. The Disc 1 image file is 706MB, but the CDs are only 702MB. I selected "attempt to overwrite" on one attempt and didn't on the other, but no success. Anything I'm doing wrong here?
I hope you guys can help! Thanks for reading if you made it this far!
