So as the title implies, I have a proper rip of Quake Revolution, a PS2 game that's old enough to be on a CD. ok, no biggie, just burn to a CD? Apparently not...so I used fairly crappy CDs to burn it to, that may be the issue, but the main question is, what's the BEST way to go about playing a CD ps2 backup with FMCB. I tried cogswap, nada (again, could be bad cd?) swapmagic 3.8 elf, mmm...no. So, can someone walk me through or tell me what I need to do? Many thanks

You have to ESR patch it then load ESR in the menu options when the PS2 loads with FMCB. FMCB does not support direct booting of copied/backed up games, only through ESR.

orly? I know that obviously but it doesn't work in any way shape or form...but, technically, can CD backups be played that way?

You have to convert CD>DVD in order to work with esr
Just follow this tutorial - link
or this one here - link
Most games will work this way, but there a few that require a special rebuilding before they will work.

alright thanks. But if I wanted to just boot the CD, is there anything I need to do or is it even possible to get it working with cogswap or sm 3.8?

Yes you could use Cogswap if you have an PS2 Original CD also. Same for SM 3.8
How to use Cogswap
-boot up Cogswap
-place a PS2 disc in the tray
-wait til it displays the disc type
-press O button for CD or X button for DVD
-wait til it says "use cogswap"
-then use a slide card (fat ps2) or sensor mod (Slim ps2) to swap out the game disc for your backup disc.
-press X to play the disc

alright thanks for confirming that. I think the only reason I can't get the cogswap method to work is because the CD games I have don't pack as much data, and as I've noticed, the disc you use to swap has to have the same if not more data on it than the game you're swapping to. Also, can someone tell me how to use sm 3.8 elf to boot backups like that? thanks a bunch again

In order to use the SM 3.8 ELF
You need also too use an Original CD of same or larger TOC
With fmcb 1.8 have the ORiginal CD in the PS2
Launch SM 3.8 elf either from the Sony Browser or through uLe
Then just swap the CD for the backup, choose your region of PS2 in Swap magic screen
Choose Normal and press X to start game.

Your welcome.
Well I would follow the CD>DVD tutorial then and patch it with esr if you don't have any high TOC CD games.
It should work fine.
