I thought this was cool and potentially good news. Plus there's nothing about ban this and jailbreak that :)

It is crap...not only do you have to pay for it, but it will not work with all new games, and will not work with any of the old games. Plus, forget about playing your game if the internet is out or slow, or if the PSN network is under repair. AND...it will require copy-protected saves. If developers do this, they will be flooded with hate mail from people who do not want to pay to save their games, and if they do not do this, they will be flooded with hate mail from people who paid money to save games online, yet can't because the developers don't support it.

Then there is the actual saving...most of the population still have upsteams of less than 1mbps, and many PS3 game saves are over 5MB. Imagine you are playing Fallout New Vegas without internet saving (as it is). You have to save every 5 minutes or so because the game crashes so often...it takes about 25 seconds to save, so that is about 5 seconds out of every minute spent saving. Now, let's say it had internet saving and it is a typical fallout NV game save file of 8MB. It would still take 25 seconds to prepare the file, but it would then take another 64 seconds to upload it at 1mbps...you would be spending more than 1/4 of your time on the save screen!

In short, even if you already have PSN+, you won't want to use this feature except for very specific cases where you just do it with one gamesave...and you would only do it this way because copying to a flash drive will be blocked on any game that supports this "feature".

Also if you don't have internet connection at all on your PS3 (which is still about 20% of the PS3, if I remember correctly, don't ask me, I don't even know what I was searching on google when I found a page with that number), you're screwed. And if the server caches fire a lot people will lose their saves, even if there are backups, I am pretty sure they are not up to date. I don't like the Cloud idea with computers (Windows 8) and it also sucks for video gaming.
Also it wouldn't only take 61 seconds to upload 8 Megabytes with 1 Megabit per second, I hardly manage to download 8 MB in 1 minute, and I have a 1 Megabit per second connection. As Uploadspeed I have about 1/10 of that speed, so uploading 8 Megabytes would take about 10 minutes.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

That time was actually based on an upstream of 1mbps, such as you might find on a 10mbps cable modem. Personally, it wouldn't hurt me too bad because I have a 30mbps upsteam...an 8MB upload takes under 3 seconds...but I know what it is to suffer with slow internet; I only just got FiOS a month ago.

This is an additional feature that coincides with the standard PS3 Gamesave methods. It is NOT a replacement and will not affect everyone at all, it is an extra capability to those who want to use it. I'm actually quite surprised at you KB in that it seems you are being so much more negative about things I would have thought you would understand easily.

I personally have been looking forward to this feature for the longest because I have 3 PS3's and constantly go over to friends & family's houses where I wish I could use my gamesave info for a multiplayer game or to continue in something like GT5 etc. I think it may start out on PS+ but I believe it will come to all users once the convenience is realized.

I also don't see how this would only be allowed for some new games and no old games as it should be looked at the way you can currently backup gamesaves to a USB thumbdrive...just in The Cloud per se. Devs have the option to not support this for new titles but again I don't see how this couldn't be used for all old and even copy protected saves since it will handled on their end with their code, possibly almost like how you transfer data from an old PS3 to a new PS3.

It's actually a really great feature that is quite big news (if true). It's already being used with Steam and people love it, so I can't see why there would be so much opposition to something that is optional and thought out to work in conjunction to already current features/abilities.

Edit: I also just read that there might be a tie in with the PSP2 (via Hideo Kojima @ the PS Meeting) so imagine you could be playing something like the next MGS on your PS3, then grab your PSP2 to continue it there on the go, and then jump back on the PS3 when you get back home. If this is possible then count me in.

I thought it was great. I mean game save are small and does not take a lot of room but IT IS nice to know that there's an alternative option.I don't get the initial its crap comment right away. Ahh well. I guess some people just can't be pleased no matter what.

Sony: "Wow you can now save all our games on our cloud networks. No more deleting old saves to make space for new ones. You can also store game data in the cloud, run the game from the cloud, no more need to make space for disks onteh shelf of having to worry about them getting scratched" etc etc

You: "OK lets try it out" Spend hundred of pounds of service, which will be a monthly fee, and new games and content etc etc

Someone reported you for something in one game.
Sony have now banned your account.
You cannot access any games.
You cannot appeal
Sony do not want to hear from you
You have lost all our games and saves and money
If you want to play on their cloud you need a new account and buy all the games and content agan.
You cannot appeal against Sony's decision no matter how small the reason was you were banned.

Yeah I dont think so, this is what they want, you paying monthly to play your games, no new content with little or no support. Also note you cannot sell your games, they are digital. You cannot sell your account, its against the rules.
You now own NOTHING, Sony have full control and ownership of everything you "bought"

LOL.Did you even read what this is about? You went on a conspiracy filled rant there.

"Cloud storage means that, rather than just keeping your save game data on your PlayStation 3's hard drive, users will be given the option to upload their saves remotely to a server. The advantage of this is that not only does it save the user space on their hard drive, but since it's tied to a PlayStation Network account, it can be pulled down to different consoles whenever and wherever the user desires."

How did you get from Sony giving you the option to save your game "SAVE" files via cloud service to Sony want you to pay monthly to play games?
The article did not even touch based on anything you went on about. The article in a nut shell is reporting that Sony MAY be providing a steam cloud service as an alternative to save your saved games data NOT YOUR GAME. This makes it easier if you were to go to your pals house, wanted to play a game, pull your saved data info from the cloud service to his/her console and start where you left off rather than start all over again.Again this is filed under RUMOR with the upcoming OFW update AND you still don't have to participate in the service unless you want to which means forking over money for PS plus.
People need to calm down and stop worrying about the whole "Sony is out to get everyone"
Well just a warning now. The upcoming Portal 2 for the PS3 comes with steam cloud suppport so if you think that this is just a backdoor way for "the man" to get up all in your business then some of you here may want to skip it then.

Sony bundled the announcement with the clause that, because saving games to the cloud "will allow save data with the copy prohibited attribute to be copied into the online storage", developers are able to opt out and bar their games from using it should there be a concern.
My bad...I read and thought it said that this required copy protected saves, but it does not clearly say that regular saves will be prohibited now that I look at it. If you have to ask why I was so miserable the other day, you obviously did not read the news page...I would have to say that I am not the biggest Sony fan right now.

As long as it does not mess with me, I am fine with it. There is no way I am buying a PSN+ account, so as long as this does not lead to more copy-protected save games, I really have no reason to complain as it does not affect me in the least.

Just think of the possibilities for the trophy whores...I bet every once of them will upgrade to PSN+.

Also if this is implemented, its up to the developers if they want their game to take advantage of this service.

It's called the future (I've tasted it). You dont seem to think far ahead do you. It's no wonder most of your posts sound ignorant. I bet you think the case with geohot is just about piracy as well :D

Everything goes onto a server, even your console. All you will then need is a much smaller device which connects to the server. The server does all the processing etc etc then streams to your device, which can be portable or build into your TV.

Yes it sound nice and simple and probably cost less to buy and run. But you forget that you can not in control, the company which owns the server is. This is what Sony and other game publishers want, for you to buy things but not own them. It's the greatest con in history!
No all of this will not come at once, they bring it in slowly, get you used to losing a little bit of your freedom a little at a time, until you have no freedom at all! It is not a conspiracy theory, this all started years ago!

Give me a break....
We are talking about consoles and games. No one is forcing you to buy it.
It isnt like food or clothes that you will die without it. is it?

OMG.You may be on to something. Better check your phones and make sure that Sony has not tapped it or bugged your house. LOL
Don't worry bigo93.Big bad sony will never succeed with their evil plot. By the time this is implemented the world would have ended by 2012.

Cloud is the future...but how can I trust a Sony-run cloud? I can't even trust them not to steal features that came pre-installed on my physical console.

Again, as long as this does not encourage developers to use copy-protected game saves, and it is just a con to steal money from other people, I guess I can't complain.

Not sure? I know that some people rather than finish a game the honest way will go and find a game save file copy it and put it the PS3. I'd say it may be also due to the whole trophy unlocking hack but I know for a fact that I ran into a game that I wanted to back up the saved data file on a thumb drive and it wouldn't let me and that was only a year after the PS3 was originally launched.I don't believe it's a Sony requirement since I know that I am able to copy my bioshock game saved files to a thumb drive.

I don't know about that. Just for giggles I tried to copy a few saved game data file and I have A LOT of games. So far I have 2 Ubisoft titles that would not let me copy their saved data files, and EA games that did let me and another that would not. I had a few PSN games that will not let me copy saves like Dead Nation but Burn Zombie burn let me. MGS4 which is one of the earlier PS3 exclusives let me copy, and Devil May Cry 4 and Dead Rising 2 which are both games from Capcom let me copy the files as well. Bioshock 1 and 2 would also let me copy.Burnout let me copy the saved data file but Dantes Inferno would not and both games are from EA? Ubisoft titles, Assasins Creed 2 wouldn't but Far Cry 2 will.So far all the saved game data for Sony exclusives like GoW3,Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time,Infamous, and GT prologue all let me copy their saved data file.

Aww look at that it's your save game file but you cant do anything with it apart from keeping it on the same console. IF your console broke you cant swap the hdd, or connect to a pc to copy over to the new console. i.e. you do not even own your own save game data!

Another bit of freedom taken away to get us accustomed to having more taken in the future.
