J/K ya old coot. :) Hope all is well with ye!! :)
Rob,
After converting a LiteOn "LightScribe", from a belt driven, to a gear driven tray successfully, a broken gear (cracked hub) is Child's play! LOL!! You have to change everything important (The entire laser/actuator/spindle assembly/PCB & tray motor). That plus a bit of "On the spot" engineering, and then I gave it to my good Friend, Dave. He bought some of the colored "LiteScribe" DVDs, and he just IM'd me earlier today to let me know it burned perfect!
Newegg told me to keep the 7240 when I requested an RMA, so I took it apart, made a new gear for it, and it works just fine. I installed it in a friend's eMachine, and he's happy as a clam. Before you ask! I explained the circumstances about the drive, before I installed it! ROFLMSOAO!! I sold it to him for $20, a fair price!

Can you do a surface scan on that disk, or did you try to throw it though a brick wall! :) Seriously, if you do a surface scan and post it, maybe we all can get a better idea of what will and won't play. Clean surface scans would indicate the errors are in the file you copied it from. Errors would indicate flaws in the DVD!
Here's one for you, sort of an ugly 95 to my eyes, but it plays on anything, as I was pretty sure it would.
Here's a Surface scan of the same DVD!
All those PIFs, and not a single surface error!
Russ

im doing the scan disc on that last one now.
here is the 8x+r verb burnt on the 7220S at 8x. i still am getting that spike at the 0.5 mark but the over all scan is great. below 9000pie total and 600 pif total. back to what i had before. minus that spike.
and instead of imgburn to do this i used clonedvd2 to burn the file. plus its not UP its old dogs..lolforgot to change the name in clonedvd2. im thinking that spike might be caused from a sata cable? yea i know how we all feel about that issue..lol
i will be takeing this bad boy apart this weekend for a major overhaul. mixing things up to say. i post the end results once back together
here is the disc scan from the nasty one i posted above this post.
not a thing wrong with it??????

I'd really like to see a 24X burn. Unfortunately, I don't have a burner/Firmware that supports 24x burns on mcc 004. Only TYG03 will allow it. Last time I tried those...LOL! Lets just say I'll stick with 16-18X max for now LOL!
I think this burn is a little better. Not what I was hoping for. I suspect that a firmware update may address these discs. They appear to me to want a particular write strategy. Notice how the failures toward the end are consistent. I believe that area wants a higher speed. That could however be wishful thinking :p

Same thoughts here. Extremely similar to my burns. Well...you got 5 free B grade discs GM :) They do work. The scans are the only thing that make you go, Huh? LOL! I haven't had a glitch yet. I really do suspect that perhaps they're working on adjusting the dyes. Perhaps a firmware can correct this. Or the dyes are simply suffering from something in the manufacturing process ;)

Different file from an external HDD this time. :) Kiddies needed a new copy of this... ;)
btw was looking at inner hub code and this is PAP..... which indicates CMC MAG made stuff... kinda disappointed in the "quality" so far... NOT a surprise I'm sure as it's the same you fellas have been getting. :)

ZOMG... I'm doing a burn at 20x on the LH-20A1S and it's a disaster!! ROFL. I'm sure it'll scan a 0!! ;(
Back with results shortly. :D
Shows the end at 14.0x, NOT!! It was 18.04x or something like that.. I was watching to see if it would even finish... ROFL. You ever seen a 20x burn take over 8 minutes?? :p

CMC MAG? Ahh thats BS! Verbatim...you should be ashamed of yourselves LOL!
PAP you say? One of my excellent 004 burns was PAP. Oh well. I'll just switch to TY. At least Taiyo Yuden hasn't let me down.
Long live Yuden T02 LOL! ♥
MCC 003 looking a bit rough. Perhaps the Lite-on thought it was a 004 LOL!
GM, Actually, it'll probably scan fine. Most modern drives employ buffer underrun protection. I've had lots of them in the past 5 yrs. They still turn out fine ;)

That last burn was without OHT/FHT by the way ;)
GM, that's amazing that you got them that fast LOL! Granted I went priority, but I'm still somewhat amazed.
Well isn't that about stupid! It looks like photobucket did something to the image/s, which causes them to shrink slightly in size, however...it also causes them to increase in bit size. Way to go dudes LOL! Its twice the size it was...LOL! It looks like they try to save bandwidth, but they sabotage it in the process...

Yeh.. me too. LOL. ;)
Go to my previous post... I added some pretty colored pics... LOL.
I have ONE disc left and I'm thinking a 4X burn is in order just for giggles... they aren't CR@P discs but definitely sub-par for MCC 004 media. ;) btw.. were they MIT or MII??

Not sure what you mean by MIT MII.
Looks like your burner did good at 20X. Mine didn't wanna do that LOL! My iHAS424 on the other hand did it comfortably ;)

Ahhh! That's very important LOL! I watch for that too. Taiwan of course ;)
I bought some riteks a while back, one batch was from taiwan, where one was from vietnam. The vietnam discs SUCKED royaly LOL! They had green splatter all over them. My brother said he didn't care, as long as they worked for one use, So I gave them to him.
I won't touch india. I've heard bad things about most brands coming from india. Specifically the -R verbatims.
So, MIS would be Made in singapore :)

I guess, given the ever increasing PIFs showing up in scans over the last several months, with today's media, this is a good burn!
I wonder what has changed? I've got the -R 8x TYs, The +R 16x F16 Riteks, and the -R 16x Verbs and all of them had a bunch of stinkers in the pack. Maybe I'll get 200 out of the 300 I got!
