well that tears it! All of the drives via ide are SLOW ripping. Im gonna be angry if these new cords are 40 instead of 80 wire. Do they still sell 40?? that'd be pretty dumb! Suppose it'd be my fault though. Gonna check the bios in a minute and see if I can determine whats up there.
Bad spelling :)

make sure you're in DMA mode and not in PIO mode that will cause slow ripping

Its not allowing me to enter advanced settings in device manager(for the add on card anyway). I believe this (standard Dual channel) to be the add on card anyway)
Where as the onboard controller...
Wonderful, miserably failed a burn. I stopped it when it wouldnt exceed 0.8X! Couldnt find settings in the bios either. Should be loads of fun!
Sorry about Off topic guys. I'll get this worked out. :D

Ordinarily, I would try that first, but... I got 2 identical ide round cables(bought separate)with my add on card. The other is ran to my LG and iHAP422 Via MOBO ide controller. They perform 100% so far. Surely my luck isnt THAT bad! I dont take coincidences lightly. REALLY leaning toward card setup, or card malfunction. But since im unable to effect DMA mode, I really believe that has something to do with it. Perhaps my bios needs an upgrade???

O-man7 I'm not the best when it comes to IDE cards as I only have one and it works fine. ;) Anyway... you might un-install the card in question, remove the card and then restart your machine and make sure it's NOT seen any longer, then re-install the card, NO device hooked up and then install software and restart again.. THEN hook your devices up after shutting down again... I know it seems like a lot of work but it might do the trick. Of course it could be the cable, but NOT likely. I would lean toward faulty software or a BIOS incompatibility. ;)
I hope some of that makes sense. :p

Dude, which card, and are dvd drives ran to it?
LOL, sorry to be so forward. Im having a REALLY bad time with this SOB! If I could just enter its own bios, then I might get somewhere. I'll tell you something right now. I will NOT buy another startech device!!!

The card that is giving you fits. If both are then do that for each card. You need to go to the MSI website and see about a BIOS flash... BUT BE VERY CAREFUL flashing your BIOS!!! I can't be more serious here, you can FUBAR your mobo in about 30 seconds if you do something wrong. If you've done it before then you know the risk you take. ;) Whatever path you take, GOOD luck. ;)

I'd concentrate on the PCI card personally. I have a nice MSI mobo (P35 Platinum) but i toasted it when i first bought it last year, and i was perfectly au fait with flashing it, and it still broke. Luckily i RMA'd it and needless to say i won't be flashing this one at all. (I've flashing many motherboard and even graphics card bioses in the past but wasn't best pleased when this one broke when it was minutes old after being built

LOL. Flashing is the one thing that makes me nervous and intimidated. Now if I had another one of these boards and a FDD, then I might attempt it. You guys ever use the LIVE update? I must admit though, really leaning at the card on this one. Supposedly the card has its own bios, and I havnt the foggiest idea how to enter it! :(

First off.. sorry for the OT creaky and others.... if someone has had some luck with these IDE PCI cards please chime in. ;)
O-man7 I wouldn't fear flashing that PCI card but flashing a mobo can be a bit tricky as creaky has already mentioned. ;) You should be able to find a BIOS for the PCI card on the website and if not then you might consider purchasing another one for a few bucks. ;)
Some cards that I would consider.... ;) linky

Gm, YOU are the man. And I think im in love with ROSEWILL. Very detailed specifications! Wish I could say the same for startech. Oh well... I guess this one goes in the bin for future ebay lot, LOL.
One of the devices you referenced specifically said "Warning:RC-200 is design for hard drive only and can't work with DVD ROM." So it recommends RC208 model. I think I have a winner! :D GM... YOU have a wonderful day, and THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Sorry about off topic, IM DONE HERE.

Here is a verbatim +R 16X burned at (Selected 24X, No 22X option) on the LG-GH22NP20. Please disregard previous problematic ide card trouble, as this drive is attached to onboard ide controller (NON problematic). The speed never exceeded 21.8X, burn completion 4:30sec. Not too bad. A bit noisy, noticing the tray is a bit flimsy too, :( And apparently my LH-20A1H (connected to Problematic card) is able to READ at 4X!
Rather disappointed with neweggs organization. Still my fault for lack of research, but I would have boughten the appropriate card had there site been a little more organized. When running through links, it shows ONLY ONE pci-e 1X card for ide. But running an actual search yields multiple. NOTED, for future ref!
EDITED - for spelling, what else? LOL

Just messing around and "dug" some oldies but goodies out of the closet to see how they performed. ;) First one is on the iHAS120 at 8x and the second is on the AD-7200S at 16x. :D Both scanned on the 20A1S. ;)
YUDEN T02 (TY DVD+R 8x)
IMGBURN 8x
YUDEN T02
Nero CD 16x
iHAS120 Nero CD 16x
YUDEN T02
I'm gonna have to burn some more to really see how these drives like the "good stuff". I'm NOT impressed with the iHAS on the good stuff right now, but it does perform well with the "lesser liked" media. lol. :O I will say this.. the Sony/NEC/Optiarc AD-7200S drive is a good one!!!! If you can get one or more (lol...:D) then do it!! I have 2 and they are great drives. :D

I'm not positive but I believe, that this is the BEST TYG03 burn that I have seen to date. VERY agreeable! Burned at 8X on my new LG. :D
Something itching in the back of my mind, tells me that dvd drives firmwares are still not optimized for these babies, :)

Rob is this the link that you used for your d/l? ;) Make sure you chose the correct one and go from there. ;) You know how to read but sometimes the mind plays tricks... ROFL. :P
That should be for the AD-7200A and flash right away. I'm sure if there is some "problem" with the f/w they will post it quick enough. You are using the binflash thingy right?? ;)
Ok the GM is off to mess around and see about flashing some of his drives and do some checking. :)
Scan away my friends.... :D
