R.I.P. Apple iPod Classic

article published on 10 September, 2014

Hidden among their high profile announcements today, Apple quietly discontinued the iPod Classic and the old 30-pin connector. With today's website refresh to add the Apple Watch and iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple has removed the iPod Classic page, leaving just the iPod Touch as the only dedicated media player. The death of the Classic was a long time coming. The original design started ... [ read the full article ]

I'm not an Apple fan by any means but this is one exception. I have been using my 160 GB iPod Classic for about 6 years now and I still love it. I have about 3,000 song's on it at any given time. To bad it's going away.

I am a recent Apple fanboy. I purchased an iPad 2 with the classic 30 pin connector. I always thought it was overkill considering the actual pin count is used. The newer Lightning connector system is by far more efficient in size, speed and data transfer. The loss of the classic iPod is sad because it fit the small fan base for solid tactile controls. Just familiarity to having something real to touch, you know, older folks!

I agree, I love these. Bought the 30GB model back in 2000 or whatever. Then bought the 160GB about 2 years ago. Great to throw in a glove box if your car has USB. Gotta shell out big bucks now for a touch ipod with that kind of capacity. Shame.
