I have one of the old kinds of PS2, the non-slim kind, not sure exactly which version/revision but I don't know if that will matter or not for the problem I am having.
I took apart my PS2 to clean the laser, and when doing so I accidentally disconnected the ribbon (on the PS2 side, not the side that connects to the actual buttons). After reconnecting the cable and putting back together my system, the eject/reset buttons don't respond. The reset button lights up red, but neither of the buttons respond when I press them.
I took it apart again to make sure it was connected correctly and as far as I could tell it was, although the side of the cable connecting to the buttons is very touchy, so if I lightly pull or jiggle the cable the reset button's light will go off and on until I secure the ribbon in a place that it will stay on.
Can anyone help me fix this? I don't know why it just stopped working, maybe I ruined the ribbon somehow?
Also if this can't be fixed is there any way to bypass the reset button when powering on? I have a slide card I can use so I don't really need the eject button but it doesn't matter since I can't even get it to turn on without the reset button....?
Where exactly can I find parts for my system? I must have just damaged the ribbon somehow, but I know I didn't screw into/through it or anything like that.... Is the ribbon used for the buttons specific to the PS2 or is it possible to use any old ribbon with the right number of pins?
I might have some extra ribbon laying around somewhere so hopefully I can use it, assuming it will work and also that the ribbon is the problem, not my reset/eject buttons
If I can't get this fixed then I guess I'll have to "borrow" my friend's PS2 lol
