Ok 2 things before we start
1) I know the simple answer is rather get a PS3 but I have a wedding to pay for so that wont happen right away
2) I apologise if the sheer stupidity of my question causes the Mayan prophecy to arrive early as the world implodes due to an excess concentration of stupidity molecules.

Okay with that out of the way here goes. I have had a PS2 since around 2004. lately it has been acting up or rather the laser has. It reads some games no problem but battles with others. Oddly enough older games and those copied to be used with Mcboot run fine but some of the more advanced games (FF12 and God of War 2 as examples) either dnt run or hang/skip.

I did some research and found that this is most likely a laser problem. This being South Africa though replacement lasers are very hard to source and when you do find a dealer you end up having to sell both your own and your first borns testicles to pay for it. I then got a bright idea, why cant I use the laser from my dead Acer laptops DVD writer/reader.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how to do it. Simple terms please Im an auditor not a techie but not a complete noob with tools.
