My brother was playing FFX and the ps2 crashed. He powered off the console, turned it on again and the disc don't spin. The laser lighs up and moves but the spindle motor doesn't move at all. My ps2 is a new one (GH-071-42), unfortunately it was open to install Modbo 4.0. What can I do? Can it be a fuse? Or the spindle motor has died?

If the disc won't spin it could be the spindle motor or check your laser ribbon cable is in place, as it could be defective also.

the spindle motor have rudimentary electronics. I don't think the problem is the motor. I think is the circuit that makes it move. The problem is that I don't know which part of ps2 it is.
Sorry for my bad english and thanks for the reply.

I couldn't tell you on a slim ps2 either what fuses are what.
Did you install the modchip yourself. Perhaps check your connections.

Yes, I installed it. The connections were right. The PS2 was used 2 months with the modchip without problems. My brother has 80h of FF10 and some 20 or 30h of other games. I've removed the modchip today and it still doesn't spin. :(
I think I'm gonna send it to repair. How much you think it will cost?

I couldn't tell you for sure what it would cost to repair. Depends I guess if its a fuse or not.
They are only $129 new, so I wouldn't spend too much on it.

Back from the dead :P
The ps2 started working 2 weeks ago but it worked about 1hour only, after that, I tried several times and it refused to spin the games. Today it worked again but only about 1hour too...
How is this possible?
both times the modchip was wired to the console. Removing it doesn't change anything

Is it overheating at all. Try placing a fan behind it for awhile and see if any difference.

the fan works great. It's not overheating problem, it's something really weird. I have already changed the spindle motor and the flat cable of the power button.

I have not seen any guides to check fuses on these newer PS2.
The latest version I have fuse guides for is the V12
Could be a bad cable, fuse etc. You would have to check them for continuity.
It is something definitely, but what I am not sure.
