Is DVD Rebuilder/CCE worth if for less than 20% compression?

Thanks for the tip, Donald . :)
What is a "5 dollar box fan", though, and how do you go about fixing it to the case if you remove the cover?

I had read DVDshrink on his response to using CCE as a plug in. I fully understand. If he puts to much stuff in it it will become a comercial program.

I picked up a couple of 20" square Lakewood fans from home depot just last week for $5 each. They are about the same size as my case opening and sit comfortably right beside the towers.
I just noted once that some box fans were inaudible on low so I tried it. My procs have never run so cool.

I not sure but I think that he might be talking about taking off his side panel and cranking a house fan on it. This would sound silly to some but in my ealy days of overclocking I did exactly that. LOL

Exactly. After spending a lot of time and money on trying to cool dual proc units and keep them quiet I gave up. This is reliable, quiet and cool. Everything I had hoped for.
It's like a beat up Dodge with a Hemi under the hood.

DDlooping,
I noticed you said 8 hrs for a 3hr movie on your XP1700. It sounded a little slow. Are you using Sdram or DDR.
Have you tried rebuilder on the same movie to see if the time changes. There could be some settings that speed things up. My dual 1700s ran LOTR2 in 3hrs by itself. I figured double for an XP1700 alone.

I must admit I don't actually know if my 512MB are SDRAM or DDRAM. :D
How do I find out?
I only tried DVD RB once, and it stopped fairly quickly with an error message.
Being a "movie-only" guy I did think it neccessary to pursue the matter any further.

I don't know either, Sophocles.
All I can say for sure is it's an AMD Athlon XP1700+.

I think that it's an Atholon XP1700 plus using the Palomino core. It uses DDR Dram and it should be fast enough to do the job. You might need to check your DMA settings.

What version of CCE were you using with DVDRB? You won't win any speed awards but your system is fast enough.

Is it the registered verion? If so then you might want to check your settings as per Vurbal's guide. Make sure that the version of avisynth is newer version, 2.54 not 2.55. I'm signing off for now but will get back to you tomorrow. The link to the guide is below.

The XP1700 can be Palamino or Thoroughbred core.
The boards that use them can use pc100,pc133,2100,2700, and so on.
If sdram then that would explain the difference in time to ddr that I use.

The XP1700 can be Palamino or Thoroughbred core and it could be a T'Bred A or B. Double "D" do you have a make and model for your PC, it's the only way we can be sure. If not the make of you motherboard which you should see on the first screen when you boot up.

Sophocles, the make is Evesham (UK company).
It's a fairly old model so I doubt any information can be found on it.
I'm pretty sue the MOBO is an ASUS.

That;s a good start, when you boot up your PC the very first thing you'll see at the top right is you mobo make and probably even model. When you get there if you hit pause on your keyboard it will stop the boot so that you can read the info. All I need is the motherboard make and model nothing else.

Quote: For reference I have never had CCE introduce any atifacts or noise into a movie and have not heard of any from other experienced CCE users.
Spend some time at doom 9's forums and you will see hundreds of posts decribing noise/grain etc with CCE, you will also find plenty of posts where on certain movies transcoders will do a better job than CCE.

Do you have any of the bad clips or captures of the claimed problems.
It sounds like operator error to me.
