hi dr xp, kalunjoku and any one else reading this
well mate looks like you were right i tried dropping the multi to 11 and upping the cpu fsb to 200mhz it will boot as far as the windows desktop welcome screen and then it just reboots itself, dont really understand why cos a friend has the same barton core chip on the exact same mobo and his runs fine, not to worry i did as you suggested and just o/ced on the fsb currently running at 180mhz giving me 2.255ghz i also kept the memory in sync with the cpu running the memory fsb at the same 180mhz thus enabling me to keep my dual channel capability which was the main thing i didn't want to lose. vcore in bios is set at 1.7v but actually shows in asus probe, bios, and cpuz to be running up to 1.76v current temps are 37c idle 41c full load with cpu fan running at 4400rpm so everything looks cool and stable at the moment {only time will tell}gonna run some stress tests tonite just to be sure will keep you posted
yes kalunjoku there is another bios rev 1009 but to be honest the idea of flashing the bios gives me the shits as iv'e heard so many horror stories so as long as this version runs with no hiccups i'll make do for the time being lmao
and no sandra doesn't give you the capability to overclock
p.s does anyone else running this board have the same problem i do in that whatever you set the vcore voltage to in bios it always runs approx .5v higher than the bios setting
for anyone interested here are results from cpuz on my o/c

just a quick update was watching my voltage readings and they were spiking quite erratically {all voltages not just vcore }so i turned the vcore down to 1.675v in bios now they all seem to be rock stable with v core reading a constant 1.72v .
with regards to the p.s in my last post i meant to say that the vcore was running .05v above the bios setting not .5v sorry for any confusion lol

hey! swampsnake glad you oced and stable thats how you build your own experience by trying.. about volt the same in my mobo even if you dont touch your vcore the voltages spikes a little (due to some brandas of power supplies that doesn´´t have an stable output).

------------------------------------------------------
ok bmx, mobo model and chipset are very important the chipset is what integrates all the hardware in the board in order to work right (sort of).
chipsets for amd are: via(kt133,kt266,kt400 to name some), sis,and nforce 1 and 2 the importance of this some of them are better to overclock than others!!

if your system is 3 years old then it can be via kt133 or kt266 or sis.

ok need some more info:
1-your mem is ddr or sdram?
2-cpu cooler is the stock cooler from amd?
theres aplications like sissoft sandra,cpu-z that can give you info about your mem and motherboard like brand it will be more easy to help you if i know that
let me know.

about the 256ram your mobo only detects 224 because your mobo has built in video card that uses or share memory from your ram. your mobo video card is set to use 32mb of your ram you can change that in your bios screen..

hey, ok first of all I have tried Sandra 2005 Lite and Sandra 2005 Professional but some problem keeps on occuring saying "failed to connect to target computer...ect" and for my memory:
RAM-pretty sure its DDR
CPU Cooler- asuming stock, seeing as I have done nothing to that computer

But as for the motherboard, I am totally clueless becuase Sandra is not working...is there an other program that can tell me these things?

ok bmx.. via chipsets specially older ones like kt333,kt266,kt133 are not good to overclock because when you overclock with them everything connected to your mobo suffers not like nforce chipsets that you can tweak one thing at a time.

ok lets do it..
there are two ways to overclock:
1-by increasing the fsb:
your cpu stock fsb is 133mhz you can go 1mhz at a time (depending on the options of your mobo) old mobos are not good overclocks so lets see how far can yours go.

2-by just increasing the multiplier:
1800+ stock multiplier is 11.5x you can raised 0.5 or 1x at a time (some of the first xp that has unlock cores and you can change the multiplier) since your is old model maybe is unlock.
ex: 11.5x x 133mhz= 1533mhz (current speed) so if you go for 12.5 x 133mhz= 1665mhz.

before you oc:

* older mobos and early via chipset dont have thermal cpu protection to avoid frying a chip.

* overclock divices generates more heat,so good cooling for cpu, case is recomended. athlons die temp is 85-90 cº so you need an application to monitor temps like mbm5,aida32,hmonitor,speedfan or biostar monitor tool.

*also read from people with your same cpu for extra tips.
with all this cover reboot your pc and get into the bios screen/advance chipset features..
lets see what options your mobo has and which ones it lets you play with,.
ok lets start with the multiplier just a little bit to see how it runs..
try 12.0 or 12.5 (1665mhz).

ok save it and lets see if your pc dont boot or reboots its ok it only means your cpu is lock and mult can be change.
open your case and clear your bios so your pc will use stock settings again.
if is not lock and you get into windows (lucky you)then test it run some heavy applications and monitor your temps this is very important.

ok try and let me know.

ok I totally understand what you are saying about changing the FSB and Multiplier, but do I change them both? Or one or the other? And also, I had no problem getting into the mainboard BIOS, but where do I go to change the FSB and Multiplier settings?

Thanks alot for the info!

ok bmx. in most bios theres a screen call advance chipset option and/or settings.

try changing one thing at a time. star by only changing the multiplier go 0.5 or 1.5x increments increasing multiplier is one of the most stable ways to overclock when you increase the fsb your cpu get real stress. so try 12,5 for start. if your mobo wont let you tweak the mult or your cpu! then try the fsb..

remember to watch the temps.
let me know

alrite, I have increased the FSB from 133MHZ-140MHz. So now the 1.53GHz is now 1.62GHz, from AMD Athlon 1800+ - 1900+. Still low and I can go more but like you said I'm going to take it bit-by-bit just to be on the safe side. Thanks alot for the help you have given. Im sure i'll probably have alot more question still lol, but i'll keep you updated on the FSB frequencies. And as for the Multiplier settings, I could not find that... Am I aright to stick with changing the FSB instead of the Multiplier?

also, I have downloaded SpeedFan and if I'm looking in the correct spot the Temperature is at: 61c. And the side fan is not on, so im assuming that would affect the temperature as well.

hi all
bmx it wouldnt be wise to o/c that cpu anymore unless you can get those temps down a bit try artic silver great stuff can knock up to 5c off you die temp {are you running stock hsf if so not good enuff}.
hey dr xp
as you can see tweaked it up a bit more had to set vcore at 7v but all seems stable ran 3dmark got a score of 2963 so i'm happy lol gonna run at this for 2-3 days just to make sure all nice and stable and gonna run pcmark2004 tomorrow and see what kind of results i get depending on how it runs over the next 48 hours or so i may try and get a bit more out of it will let you know thx for all the help much appreciated

hello bmx, swampsnake is right 61 Cº is hot!!ok i think you stop there for the moment until we cut some heat. artic silver termal grease really works can help you reduce 5-7 Cº thats a lot and is really cheap like 4-6 dollars:

http://www.xoxide.com/arcticsilver5.html

i got mine from them. or try another heatsink and fan something better than the stock one not too xpensive since that pc is your test mice jejejeje.

also check your temps in bios hardware monitor screen thats more accurate is like 2-3 degrees less than windows applications..

WOW 61 C, thats hot!

Thanks for the cooler fan links Dr.XP, I researched coolers and decided to get the Zalman CSNP7000A-Cu from the Xoxide.com link you provided since they also seemed to have the best price on it.

Hey bmxer, of you want great coolong for the $ AND want it virtually quiet then check out the Zalman CPU coolers, they are really good. There are much louder coolers that can do better, but not for the db level of the Zalman.

http://www.xoxide.com/zacncpuco1.html

Can't wait to get it!!! I'll let you all know the results when I install it!
