hi tryhard
your gonna run into problems as i assume you are running pc2700 memory in which case to overclock your cpu you are gonna have to overclock your memory aswell
as your board only supprts an FSB of 333mhz, all well and good if you have good quality memory but not really advised try and get some pc3200 memory }{400mhzFSB}it will cause fewer problems and you wont have to increase the voltage of your memory cos you wont be over clocking it to be honest on that motherboard i would leave it running at stock i managed to o/c my xp2800+ to 2.3mhz but couldnt get it to run stable {more a psu problem i think } but even so i got it at 2.26 stable at the moment and havent really noticed much of a difference except maybe slightly faster loading times at a few xtra points on my benchmarks also check the site of your memory manufacturer for the optimal timings for your memory and next time you post list all the specs on your hardware it will make it easier for people to advise you, as for the vcore depending on wat your bios allows you to do,when you increase the fsb you may need to incxrease the voltage,i run mine at 180mhz giving me 2.57mhz at stock voltage {1.65v} but it all depends on your psu and your mobo you may need to increase your vcore i would try raising to 1.675v {if your bios allows] and see how it runs then but make sure to watch your cpu temps hope this helps you out take care for now and good luck

Hi again,

It has been awhile since I posted, and the last time I did everyone helped me successfully overclock my system. It has been running strong ever since. On to my off-the-wall question:

My roommate wants to buy a new "nice" sound card. i have suggested the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Audio, but the few reviews aren't the greatest. He has an old SB card as do I.

Any suggestions or links?

Thanks in advance,

Jagerbreath

hello guys jagerbr, swampsnake im back to this thread!!

as always via is not a frendly ov, newer vias like kt600,kt800 or msi corecell are very flexible in ov matters tryhard!!

swamp no matter what they say about the audigy 2 platinium ex dude is one hell of a sound card!! cristal clear sound, very powerful sound (with boston, cambriged or creative speakers) look if he is the common gamer or mp3 fan is the best card to get.

Hey Dr. XP and everyone,

I just ordered some upgrades for a friend and my pay for the work are some new parts. Tell me what you think I can OC to vs the old CPU and Ram

For $60 out of pocket I will move to the following items vs. my signature info:

-AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "Barton", 400 FSB, 512K Cache Processor - OEM
-Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail

I'm also curious if it was even worth it. The upgrading should certainly be easy enough. I am keeping my MB in place.

Will I want to make sure the current Bios settings are set to default before I pop in the new CPU and RAM?

Thanks again for the help!

You might see a 5-7% increase in speeds... the memory might help... all in all for 60.00 naaaa not worth it.

great deal!!!
in clockspeed you wont see big difference 3000+ run at 2.1ghz the 400mhz fsb is great jump in performance like with the 3200+ great cpu.
and of course that memory will give you more room and stability in overclocking!!

run that syst for a few days stock to see how it perform!!? some people say that cpu dont need oc to improve just for fun because it runs great at stock speed..

let me know

hello tryhard.
about fans volcano 12,polo 735, are thermaltake products great fans but they are really noisy at top speed 5000 rpm. so if noise is and issue with you.
then you might check zalman fans they are great copper fans and really quiet.

did i say that copper heat sinks are the best heat transmitters!!!.

here a few options for your socket 462(amd,xp or sp)

silent fans/heat sinks

you need to change the Vcore voltage tryhard depending on your bios switch from auto to menu or user defined and then alter it by the lowest increment your bios allows {mine 0.025v increments yours maybe higher }then run benchmark to test for stability hope this helps

hey, new cpu cooler installed and now idles at 38°c with mobo at 17°c, my house m8 today tho overclocked his 2800+ "barton" to a 438Hhz fsb, he's able to change the multiplier without doing anything to the chip? it is retail tho not oem, but its only just over a year old :S think must have been old stock or something, think he used a 11.5 multi to get it that high, didnt have to change the vcore to do it tho :S its currently running at 2.3something ghz? gunna try mine a little higher l8r tonight

Hey guys! It's been a while since i've done anything on this forum. I just wanted to let you all know that I'm actually starting a business and the athlon series of processors will be our main processor. After being on this forum and reading what we all talk about, and after me and the other co owners have run many tests, we found that the athlon is in fact better for the gamers, which is who we target. We will be starting it up in the summer so when you all get the chance, come to Bowling Green, Kentucky and look for PCN Computers. Thanks guys! I'll keep posting when i get new stuff but for now, I have to keep busy trying to get our business going!
