Hello guys;

I have been away from this forum for some time, because i don't burn coasters anymore, and never felt the need to take a look at this thread anymore. At the end of this post, i have copied my reply which i posted here in march 2005. Hopefully, this would help some of you.

Good luck.

POSTED IN MARCH 2005

"Ok guys, problem solved. :o)

Last week-end I did 3 things:

1: I have updated my motherboard's BIOS to the latest revision.

2: I've put my GSA-4163B in the Kingwin external enclosure.

3: Prior to burning the DVD'S, I've killed ( by doing CTRL-ALT-DEL....then end task. Do not uninstall your applications...! )all the unnecessary tasks running in Win XP that I could, with the task manager: Norton Anti-Virus, Quicktime, the HP printer manager, Creative's remote center etc. Killing applications requires some fine tuning, as the first time you do this, you will probably kill an application that's required, and this will force you to restart your machine, and do the same process again. The key is to write the name of the .EXE applications that you kill, and the watch if it causes instability, then you proceed to the next .EXE.

Honestly, I can't say exactly what i did, that fixed the problem, but all I know is that i've been burning -R, +R, Princo, Ricoh, Maxell, Imation, you name it. All week-end, without a single coaster.

I also tested my two supposedly dead GSA-4081B. Guess what? They both work too!

I then put one of my 4081B in an older machine ( Celeron 433Mhz )and i have been capable of burning DVD's at 4X with that machine too. I never thought I could burn DVD's with such a machine. "

I stumbled into this thread while researching something else, and somehow got sucked into reading all 27 pages. I've seen various 'fixes' which people have reported for this problem. Mr campbell has contributed some tidbits of information here and there, but has never stated that there is any kind of resolution to the problem. I thought you folks might be interested in what was reportedly the OFFICIAL RESPONSE from Nero, what I don't understand is why Craig never posted this info here. Ok, it might not resolve the issue in 100% of the cases, but perhaps it will resolve it in 60,70,80% or more? BTW, this was posted on another forum ALMOST A YEAR AGO.
Quote:
SOLUTION EX NERO

Affected systems:
Operating System: Windows 2000 SP3 and Windows XP SP1

Configuration:
A. Mainboard: nForce2 Chipset - see mainboard list below with CD-Recorder: attached to one of the IDE-ports
B. Mainboard: i845G, 845GE, 845PE with CD-Recorder: attached to the USB 2.0 port
C. Windows XP SP1 with a preinstalled USB 2.0 driver from the OEM

SYMPTOM

A customer get the following error as soon as he try to burn (under Windows 2000/ XP):

SCSI/IDE Command aborted

and sometimes they get a crash/freeze too.

You will find the following in the logfile of Nero:

Status: 0x02 (0x03, SCSI_ABORTED)
HA-Status 0x10 (0x0A, SCSI_HASTAT_REQUEST_SENSE_FAILED)
TA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)
Sense Code: 0x26
Sense Qual: 0x02
CDB Data: 0x2A 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x1F 0x00 0x00 0x00
Sense Data: 0xF0 0x00 0x05 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x26 0x02

CAUSE

Situation A:
A bug in the installation routine of the chipset drivers causes the error within the updating
of the IDE/ATAPI controller device drivers, because it does not install the correct
IDE Controller Drivers.
1. nForce2 IDE Controller
2. nForce 2 IDE MCP2 IDE Controller
A list of several mainboards which uses the nForce2 chipset:
Abit NF7, Abit NF7-S, ASUS A7N8X, Biostar M7NCG, Chaintech 7NJL1, Chaintech Zenith Series CT-7NJS, Epox EP-8RDA, EP-8RDA+, EP-8RGA+, Leadtek WinFast K7NCR18D, MSI K7N2-L / K7N2G, ..

Situation B:
It seems to be that the USB drivers of Microsoft have problems with the Southbridge ICH4 - B0 Stepping.

Situation C:
If you have a computer that supports USB 2.0, and if you have a preinstalled USB 2.0 driver from the OEM, you continue to use the earlier preinstalled drivers for USB 2.0 even after you install SP1.

RESOLUTION

Situation A:
It seems nVidia could resolve this issue now. Please download the latest nForce2 driver version (2.45 or newer).
In case the problem is still there:
1. Please download the latest drivers from nVidia for nForce2. Extract the executable using e.g. WinZIP. There is now an IDE \ WinXP folder.
In this folder are the following inf files:
a. nvidesm.inf for NVIDIA® nForce(TM) IDE Controller
b. nvhdc.inf for NVIDIA NForce MCP2 IDE Controller
It depends on your mainboard which inf file is to select. If you see nvidesm as adapter in the Choose Recorder dialog within Nero then select nvhdc.inf
2. Now click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System
3. Now open the property sheet Hardware
4. Click Device Manager
5. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller and then double-click the appropriate controller.
6. Now click the property sheet Driver and then click on Update Driver...
7. Now select the file nvidesm.inf resp. nvhdc.inf
8. After finishing you need to reboot for changes to take effect.

In case this does not have the wished effect please repeat it by using the other inf file.

Situation B:
For Windows 2000 SP3 a working patch is now available. More information: <http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=810090>
This patch does not solve the problems under Windows XP SP1. The development of a new driver is near to the end and will hopefully soon be available.
As long as the new drivers are not available is it the best way to avoid the usage of the burnmethod DAO. By using TAO or DAO/96 the problem will not occur.

Situation C:
Information on how to upgrade to the USB 2.0 drivers included in WIndows XP SP1 will you find at the following page: <http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329632>

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us again.

I have this problem on Windows XP SP1 and have already tried what is described in solution c a long time ago and this does not resolve the fault...... Still investigating as agree 100% the issue is with either the USB 2 controller/driver.

Well i think i have the solution.. It seems when burning dvds with an external burner it requires huge amounts of bus power from the usb eventhough it is external powered.. I disconnected my Ipod shuffle and my usb 1.1 hub from my computer which has about 4 things plugged in including my external mouse for my laptop.. after that i tried burning again a BAM!!! it burned.. i think it is reseting because not enough power can be given to the burner to make it keep on spinning when it is trying to start the burn... just my ideas though not sure if any of you tried it yet...

Got the same Intel 82801 controller, both for IDE and for the USB. And I can't get an update for these drivers!

The power can't be the issue. DVD-burning works fine under Linux, this is strictly a Windows driver issue. Someone has to tell the Microsoft programmers to get off thier @$$es.

I just developed this problem. Previously Nero worked perfectly fine for me, but my hard drive crashed - I was even able to preserve key data by burning it to DVD-R with Nero the night it crashed. So the store that I took it to get it fixed gave me Windows XP Service Pack 2 without asking. Could that be the problem? Pre-crash, Nero worked great. Now I have produced 3 coasters today. I even tried the batch file to eliminate the RMADEC.EXE, no effect. The problem only occurs in actual burns - the simulations work fine. I have an external Plextor 716A. I also have an internal TEAC CD burner / DVD reader that no longer functions - I have to uninstall it before I can burn with the Plextor.

I´ll apreciate if anyone can help me.

I recently bought a Zynet Enclosure (cd-r3-u2) and a LG 4167b dvd burner. The only issue i have is that if i try to burn a cd-r using the disc-at-once method, it fails in the "lead-in" step. I´d tried using several brands of media, and won´t work. Actually, i can burn cd-r's with track-at-once. I´m using Nero 6.6.0.16. Here's the log.

FINALLY!!!!

Same issue, with MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum Edition motherboard, GSA-4082B LG recorder, installed internally. Nero Burning ROM 6.6.0.0.

@Giac0 ? By disabling the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service I managed to get success on simulation, but it still failed when recording.

I have tried removing Ahead ASPI driver, but the system hangs.
No Ahead plugins were installed. I do not have those RMA and SELFDEF processes, and I do not have an nxmyreal.dll file.
I have never burnt a +R.
Updating Adaptec ASPI drivers didn?t help, as I?d have to disable Ahead ASPI, and this hangs my system.
I was unable to download anything from NTIUS.

*****************************************************
But disabling ?DVD High Compatibility Mode? worked!!!
*****************************************************

And, unlike our unfortunate fellow Lex29, I?m able to read my Disks on a conventional standalone player!

Craig, you?re the best!!!

OK, it is just the 1st one, but I had never been able to finish this process correctly! I?ll keep recording, and try to keep you updated!!!

Kayn

One problem with the Intel Application Accelerator is if you want to Flash your Drive to update the firmware its advisable to unistall it before flashing the drive

Hello fellow lovers of technology, after reading through this lot i tried a load of stuff and nothing worked (act surprised). Anyway heres my stats to add to the casualty list:

WinXP Home, Dell Dimension 5100.
Phillips PBDV1640G with USB/FIREWIRE safecom SU2GE-F525ACF caddy.

- Disabled IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service
- Tried to find new drivers for the motherboard and usb2 ports but got nowhere and gave up, anyone who knows where to look, device manager lists the usb2 as "Inter(r) 82801BD/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD" on properties driver version is 5.1.2600.0
- Re-zeroed the drive in DVD decrypter
- Power supply is good, well according to the sticker it can give out up to 3A at 12V and at 5V
- And im tried it on firewire but had no luck.. joy

Using USB2:
No multisession data dvd dvd-r. Tried a few different speeds. Starts burning, the progress bar stops at something daft like 8% and the disc keeps spinning indefinatley, meanwhile windows does what windows does best and freezes. Only way out of it is to power the caddy off.

Ah, just found something interesting in the documentation for my 5.25" caddy.. notice the following line:

Suitable for hard disk type: 3.5" HDD and 5.25" CD-ROM, CD-R/W, CD-R, DVD-ROM

Doesn't mention DVD-RW. That would explain why my one doesnt work then, i wonder if any one else made the same mistake.

shine on

I finally got it working.

I was experiencing the same error of a failed burn. Anyway, it turned out to be a simple driver issue. Running win2k, when I initially "installed" the drive, I did it in the usual manner of inserting the powered usb cable into the system, and letting 2k go through the typical driver installation procedure. It took all drivers from the windows install, and did not require a driver installation cd. It said it was done, and the drive worked "normally" in buring a cd, but bailed when burning a dvd.

Finally, it dawned on me, what about the driver cd? I assumed that it was for win98. There was in fact a single file with a name like blah2k.inf I right clicked on the file, selected install, the system did not complain, but did not give feedback. I rebooted, and problem solved.

Even on usb1 a dvd can be burned on my 700 Celron.

BTW, for those of you who have not figured it out, stop wasting your money on write-once recordable dvd media. Until you get it figured out, use rewritable media for your experients. Some people on this forum have made mention of how many expensive coasters they have made.

Cheers!

Hey guys, anyone still messing about with a external caddy and an internal drive, give up and buy one of these LITE-ON SOHW 1673S, or the latest version, i got this one in a sale from ebuyer for 50 pounds. They are really solidly built and work like a dream. I have burnt a load of Ritek GO5 DVD-Rs and checked them all with MD5s and they have been bit perfect.. BIT PERFECT, i never thought i would say that. I even burnt a Memorex one for a laugh and that was bit perfect too.

Maybe atlast we can all stop trying to repair our computers and start using them.. fat chance, whats next.. hard disk failure?

Good luck everyone, seriously, buy one of these, you wont be dissapointed. Use your caddy for a simple hard disk drive, burners just seem to be too complicated for most caddies to handle.

cheers guys n gals,
Mike

ps Thanks whoever told me about ritek g05s, they are fab. even if they dont come with a spindle, not that that matters, most people have one about somewhere.

"We at Nero suspect this is a hardware issue..."
I have read every email in this thread from the beginning. My eyes are like sandpaper and my mind is now mud. Most of the problems seems to be from people who have external drives. However, I have an internal DVD Rom drive and an internal DVD burner, both Sony. I just started getting the 'SCSI Command Aborted' error and have about 10 coasters. My question is, since you believe it may be more in the hardware than software, is it safe to say that my first step should be to replace my Sony Burner? Then, upgrade my Nero 6.0.0.6 to a the latest version? I am stumped and not sure what to do.
I have to change something and not sure where to start.
Thanks... Gary

Other software will work where Nero will not. I've listed several free alternatives in this thread already.

Interesting to see that this forum is still alive and there's no resolution yet. I've had no problems using my external drive until I upgraded my external firmware. After that I was getting coasters, even replaced the drive inside the enclousure but still no luck.
Since than I switched to DVD+R and have been a very happy camper.

I'd suggest to everyone who can switch to +R, just do it and forget about this forum.

Greetings...
I just received an email from Nero (see below) about my problem of burn failures. All of a sudden a few days ago, I started getting the "SCSI command aborted" error message and then a coaster. After I got this email from Nero, I decided to do the least invasive surgery first. I have WinXP Pro, internal a Sony DVD ROM and a Sony DVD burner. I previously had a Benq DVD ROM and replace it with my current Sony DVD ROM but that did not help. I thought there might be a conflict between them.
So, I first checked my DMA settings. They were fine.
Then, checked to see if Sony had any firmware updates for my burner. They did. My Sony burner is a 500A. I updated my older firmware from 1.0g to 2.1a.
I did not want to remove any Roxio drivers that the Nero email mentioned 'are in conflict with Nero Performance.' So I did not run the Driver-CleanTool.exe. I want to keep Roxio running just in case.
So the result with doing only this firmware upgrade is that I think the problem is solved!!!! Since I upgraded the firmware, I have burned about 9 DVDs with NO problems. Before, every other attempt created a coaster.
I then upgraded my Nero 6.0.0.6 version to 6.6.018 and it continues to work well. So...so far so good. Fingers crossed. I hope this might help others out who have a similar setup. Gary
P.S. ISPY...No I did not change media because I thought it had to be in the PC...not in the media. I am using the Maxell DVD-R disks and they are doing fine now with the firmware upgrade to my Sony burner.
Thanks... Gary
==================================
Dear valued customer,

thank you for your email and your interest in our software.

1.) Please update to the current Nero 6 Version.
You can download the newest Nero 6 Version from our website:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php

The help-files for these updates have to be installed separately.
Download the English language-pack, which includes the help-files:
http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/sp_file.php?spla=eng

(Please note that the current language-pack can only be installed if the current Nero 6 version has been installed beforehand. The version-number of the Nero 6 update and the version-number of the language-pack have to be identical.)

2.) Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder.
An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures.
Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the Manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorder?s firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.

For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder and instructions on how to upgrade your recorder?s firmware. Same goes for all other recorder manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, etc...

To determine what kind of recorder you have, assuming you do not know for sure, you can use our Nero InfoTool to obtain this information. To locate the Nero Info Tool, follow the steps below.

For Nero Burning ROM 6 or Nero Express 6 go to:
'Start->All Programs->Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

For Nero Burning Rom 5.5 or Nero Express 5.5 go to:
'Start->All Programs->Ahead Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

Once Nero InfoTool is launched, make sure your recorder is selected in the top left of the window. Use the drop-down box located there to select your recorder or any recorder. Once selected, it displays the manufacturer as well as the model of the recorder you have. Be sure to make a note of this. Also, once you have your recorder selected, you can click on the 'DRIVE' tab and in the top right of this window you will see the current firmware version (among other information) you have on your recorder. Compare this version with the latest firmware provided by the manufacturer of your recorder and upgrade if available.

Legal disclaimer:
"Nero AG is not liable for firmware updates as these updates are not offered by Nero AG. All updates are performed at one?s own risk. Nero AG will not be liable for the legality of the firmware."

3.) Please activate DMA (Direct Memory Access) for all your CD/DVD drives.

Direct memory access (DMA) allows certain hardware subsystems within a computer to access system memory for reading and/or writing independently of the CPU. Without DMA, the CPU would have to copy each piece of data from the source to one of its registers, and then write it back again to the new location. During this time the CPU would be unavailable for other tasks.

Note: You must be able to log on as Administrator!

For Windows 95/98/ME:
Go to ?Control Panel->System->Device Manager->DVD/CDROM drives? and enable DMA for your device(s) by right-clicking on a drive and selecting ?Properties->Settings?.

For Windows 2000/XP:
Go to ?Control Panel->Systems->Hardware->Device Manager? and now double-click on ?IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers?.
Right-click on the ?Primary IDE Channel?, go to ?Properties>Advanced Settings?, and change Transfer Mode to ?DMA if available?.
Do the same for the Secondary IDE Channel.

4.) A review of your computer system has revealed that drivers from another burning software, which conflict with Nero performance, are left on your computer system.

Please use the ?Driver CleanTool? to disable these drivers.

Download driver-cleantool.zip from
ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/cleanpack.zip

Extract the zipped files to your hard drive using WinZip or WinRar.

You should now have two unzipped files:
Driver-CleanTool.exe, and
RegistryChecker.exe

First step: run Driver-CleanTool.exe
This file will deactivate drivers that have caused problems with Nero in the past.
Confirm the deactivation of the displayed drivers to prevent known driver conflicts from reoccurring in the future.

These drivers also include Values in the Registry under Windows NT, 2000, and XP.
To ensure that these values are also deactivated you will need to run the RegistryChecker file.

The RegistryChecker will run very quickly. It is likely that you won't see any activity after double-clicking on the file.

Note: Running the RegistryChecker will not be necessary for Windows ME, 98SE, 98, or 95.

Should you have any other request, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Best regards

I used to have 2 Sony 510a running 1.1 FW,I,ve changed to Pioneer 2x109 and 2x110 all with hacked FW's as the Max burn speed of the 510 was 4x
Anyway have a look at the Sony site for a software DL called DSS (drive speed select) it may apply to your 500,you can use it to control rip speed

I have just resolved the problem with scsi_abort.
I use WinXP Home SP2 and Plextor PX-750A in external case.

The source of the problem were Windows usb2 drivers. Neither drivers from Sp1 nor from sp2 didnt work. I downloaded the drivers for my Intel 845GE chipset and forced update to new usb drivers.
And it started to work perfectly. Now I dont need to use DVD decryptor's re-zero and other stuff. Even if external HD is connected and I am downloading files from it burning process can't be interrupted. DVD burner just need to wait sometimes to rebuffer its interal buffer.

File:
infinst_enu.exe (Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility Version 6.3.0.1007)

Current configuration:
Device Manager: Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB2 Enhanced Controller - 24CD
Driver Provider: Intel
Date: 2003.08.28
Ver: 5.1.0.1006

Drivers for USB Stack:
Microsoft's version: 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
