lost another one saturday afternoon--saturday night it recorded one just fine--i did have to unplug it after the first--it did not stop recording at the given time--just continued--for several hours--not really recording, i'm sure--this has happened a few times--then it gives an 'unrecognized disc' message--which i know was erased just before setting the recorder schedule--unplugging does seem to get it back on track--will try inplugging it every time i set it up--a good cold boot seems to work on several electronics in flux--but am at the same point as another--with recording ability from the computer abvailable--will probably not be using a recorder very long--

I have the simuler problem with memorex they have two kinds of +R's now out there. The one with the dots on top mine won't format them i t gets 99% and stall. If I stick the kind that has the lines to wright on no probles. Try using memorex, the ones with the lines to wright on. Sound like they redesighned them and changed the media formula. I got the feeling that is what happend to my media.

I am on my second unit. I originally had a 05 ZU that failed and then returned it for a MU1 back in February. The MU1 worked better than the first unit and I recorded probably over 100 discs. But, in the last couple of days it has been acting funny. Not reading discs and or finalizing them. It also does funny shit like pause all on it's own. So, I guess it's back to the VCR for now. Man, no wonder Wally World gave up on these shitty machines. I hate Wally World. I never shop there I recieved this as Christmas gift last year.

Any idea if Walmart will take something back that I have had since February? I am thinking about exchanging this for the new cheap Magnavox they are now carrying.

Thanks

I have with interest read the notes in this forum regarding the ILO DVDRO4 - the good points and the problem areas. I bought mine on 12/12/2004 and up until today have had pretty good LUCK with it (from reading other reports and experiences). However, I think my luck may have just run out. I decided that I would like to watch a commercial disc/movie (March of the Penguins) with my grandchildren in the room where this unit is located. Guess what??? I opened the door, put the disc in, the door closed and I got the HELLO that some others have referenced. Nothing but "HELLO". Nothing else. So, I tried to open the door to retrieve the disc - ZILCH. Nothing. Buttons on the remote or panel would not work. Right now the movie disc is in the unit and I now am faced with the task of 1) retrieving the disc and saying farewell to the unit or 2) seeking corrective action to resolve the problem. Anyone have experience with this or something similar???? Appreciate any suggestions (no wisecracks please) or ideas!! I do have other DVD players/recorders - it just so happened that I chose this one to play the movie.

I'd recomend unpluging it and wait about an hour replug it in before you scrap it. Then clean the player with with a dvd cleaner disk. Unless your more comftorable with a thoural cleaner. I do mine with a Qtip and alchol and canned air. I am atached to my ILO 05 yes I can relate to you atached to your 04.
I honestly hope this helps.

I agree with above , unplug it for a while , But also while its unplugged hold the power button in for about a minute to discharge the capasitors fully before powering the unit back up , ,but if that fails , you may need to open the unit up in order to get your DVD out , for I had this happen once to , but what happened to me was my son did not have the DVD in the tray correctly & when the unit shut it jammed & displayed the HELLO on display ,I had to litterally pry the door open to get my disk out , its been fine since thou :)good luck

ps , if you get the disk out & problem still persists , try attaching another 16x DVD drive before tossing out the ILO , , I add this cause I have had mine for 2 years & yeas I replaced the dvd drive myself & it still going strong.

Audio issues. Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I was unable to locate this particular problem. This site is a bit confusing to navigate.

My DVDR05 is causing static type crackling sounds through my TV. I recorded one disc and played it on another DVD player and I did not hear any crackling. Also, thhis problem occurs while just watching regular TV. I've connected the TV straight to the Replay without this issue occuring and my old DVD recorder didn't have this problem last week. I've tried every possible wire/cable configuration possible and everything seems to point the problem to the recorder.

Is this a common problem with these recorders? Do I have a lemon? The recorder is over a year old and out of warranty. It's been in storage all this time.

Thanks.

I'll me honest I don't have that issue. From other threads other have had tuner problems. I have disk compatibility problems. I use memorex and and it has been very fusy lately. Most likely you got a lemon, I got 2 ILO 05 and I love them. Except they are very cheaply built and got alot defects. I'd try taking yours back if you could. I recomend getting anouther brand of recorder. I have heard good about the new brand wal marts carry. Some even have had video issues.

Bummer.

I've read on other fix-it type websites that the whole process to repair this issue would cost way more than the recorder itself. Dang it! I knew not buying a warranty on this cheap little thing would come back to bite me in the butt.

Thanks for the reply.

Are there any tricks to replacing the optical drive on an ILO 04 recorder. I am starting to get disc errors, after two years of flawless recording. Any help would be appreciated

As far as tricks to replacing the ilo DVD drive if yours goes bad , well not really , once you open the cover , the drive inside is attached by a normal computer power connector & ide cable , ,however you can either connect a replacement drive in a few minute with ease & just sit it on top of the old one & leave the cover off {which is what i do , for the ilo has poor air circulation} ,, or you can remove the old drive & face plate entirely & replace with yours, , this however must be done carefully & will take a bit of time.

Good luck

I totaly agree, the ILO's have poor circulation. I have a hole circuler cut in my top and installed a cooling fan to suck out the hot air. That made a world of difference. That is anouther Idea to toss around.

I would think that any dvd drive would do however I always made sure they ran at least at 16x , , Ihave tried a memorex , a lite-on , & a sony , all were 16x & used both DVD-R & DVD+R , , you need be sure your drive can read/write DVD+R or it may not work , , Good luck & lets hear how it goes , Thanks

Well just for fun I thought I would give you an update. To recap things. It was about 1 year ago that my ILO after two weeks of use failed, although I technically had owned it since July 15th of 05. To date I have had a total of maybe 6 weeks of use, during the times they bothered to send it back, the first time it was gone about 4 months and arrived back as broken as it was when I sent it in, the last time i sent it in was in lat August. So her i sit without it, in 18 months I've had maybe 6 weeks of it working, totally it recorded maybe 50 or so and made about as many coasters.
In the meantime I bought 3 other DVD recorders and RCA dual tape/disk, it made it to 495 recorded before giving problems and I haven't had it to use since lat June either, then I got a Liteon with the upgraded software, record from, copies ANY disk or tape, from any area/zone. I'm now waiting for the 4th one to arrive, the first one was just not good right out of the box, made weird noises, the last two I'm thinking had a dust problem but as the case is sealed i couldn't open it up to clean anything and had to send them back, works great when they do then they start making data discs. I own lots of un-useable data disks.
Now I have a TRUTECH, very cheap at Target, hey I've got recording to do, the Satellite system hard drive was getting full up, it only hold 96 hours or movies. So far it's a nice little unit, 1 to 6 hours recording times, has all the inputs and outputs even DVi on the front panel, up to disc number 29 so far.
I guess maybe I'm cursed when it comes to digital recording, the greatest un-luck of the draw when it comes to picking he worst one they made out of the pile.
But it is the service from WAL-MART that stinks, I can't say ILO because they refused to even talk past the model number just told me to call WAL-MART and hung up.
And there you go, what a year, what an expense to have boughten 4 recorders, at least I'll be all set when they all get back in working order.
I'm looking forward to the change to HD/DVD or what ever the one not Blu-ray is, as I hear it is backwards compatible, where Blu-ray is not.

If and when I ever get the ILO back I'll post a new update. At the current rate I figure they will be sending it back to me with additional 90 days warranty for the next several years.
I keep asking that they just give me a new one, but no they want to fix this particular one again and again and again.

I just recently baught the memorex recorder from Wal Marts and is very well worth the money. I have got no dud's and seem to run cool and without dud's too. The only down fall I seem to find the menu struture is odd. For the most it is well worth the money. I now just use my ILO's for playing DVD's. It was getting 1 out 10 dud's. Just trust me insted of messing with the ILO's invest in a memorex. You won't regret it. I haven't so far give me time and I will update if anything changes.

Hi there,
As it is now January 2007 I thought it would be proper to add to this

I am still without my ILO, and according to the last person I talked to they had no idea when I was going to get a replacement, that conversation was way back last month. I was shocked that she even used to word replacement and I asked her twice is she was using the right word. You see it's been supposedly repaired 4 times, well 3 and this last send back would make 4 I think. Its been so long I've lost count. I mean if you read any of my other posts then you might remember I bought it in July of 2005, but it did have a bar code sticker on the back dated 2002. I finally came to the conclusion it was one of those machines they just put back out on the shelf when someone returns it because it didn't work right.
So this is getting into the THIRD YEAR and I have gotten a total of maybe a few weeks use out of it. They have had it going on 4 plus months this time. I am not impressed with Wal-Marts customer service for anything electronic I can tell you that with great sincerity.

In the meantime the little Trutech DVCR I picked up at Target is chugging right along, recorded number 89 today. And it has yet to fail a disc. Speaking of discs as I'm running low I went shopping lst night for a good deal, finally found one at CompUSA, 50 packs of DVD +R for $12.99, I ordered 4 of them, 200 discs, and also a 25 pack of DVD +RW for about the same price, they are both the Memorex brand. I opted for the pick in the store option to save the shipping costs since I have to go into town anyway, I thought that was a nice option for them to offer.

I had started out shopping at Amazon, found what I wanted then looked in the new and used section to find out who had them for less and then went to their site. There were a few companies listed but CompUSA was the least priced, and I have burned hundreds of that brand with nary a coaster in the pile.

But get this way down the list was one company selling 50 pack of DVD + R's for $79.98, I could barely believe my eyeballs, what a nerve even listing them at that price; but the really hilarious part is they were listed as refurbished. I don't know how one would go about refurbishing a blank DVD, think that's why they cost so much more?

And so that's my stories update for January 2007.
Wal-Mart just plain sucks as far as my experience with them and ILO goes, ILO simply refused to talk to me once I mentioned the model number, they just gave me a worthless phone number to call and hung up.

I am now going to go looking for a HD/DVD player, I read last night that when you buy a movie for HD/DVD it typically has a regular DVD version on the other side. And the growing consensus out there is that Blu-ray isn't going to make it, that it's going the way of the Beta-max, something you youngsters probably won't remember, it lost the war to VHS, because you couldn't get a movie on one tape. Sony, in its infinite wisdom built the tape cassettes for just one hour, great for home movies and such but not for where the real money would turn out to be, Hollywood movies.

Have a Happy New Year
