I have a friend that works at wal-mart. He told me that walmart wants to put all of there electronic items on walmart online shopping only. Evenutally they dont want to sell them in the stores anymore. The ILO brand is a big seller for them but not bringing in the big buck any more. They are really trying to push the big price named brand out the door. There motto is if you dont want it look at another place. Walmart is going down the drain fast they need to come up with a better store.

I was also thinking "the newer they are the better they are going to be." What I don't understand is whether the ZU's and the MU's have different capability and user interface. My ZU will record DVD+R/RW and also DVD-R/RW. Does the MU1 also record to both types of media? I don't care about copying VHS tapes or hacks to add features like region codes. I just want to record from the tuner and play DVDs. Any opinions? Thanks.

Hey iloilo, my ZU says it will only record onto DVD+R/RW's, does yours record to them even though it says they won't, and anyways, what's the advantage of this so called "dash technology" I've heard about.

Which one is better, and what's different about the "-" and the "+".

bcallahan,

I just returned my ZU built Dec 05 for a MU built in Jan 06. My experience was that the ZU was working unreliably but equally with +RW and -RW. Only got the MU today so nothing to report yet.

Never heard of "dash technology."

Hello everyone,
I thought that I would update you on my new ilo. It's a DVDR05/ZU Bios: 05 72/105N. It was Manufactured Dec. 05. So far it is doing great! The hum is gone and I can play all of the discs on my other dvd player. The only problem that I have noticed is that sometimes it won't pause when you are recording and you have to keep repeatedly hitting the pause button until it finally pauses the recording. I have been taping live from the tuner and transferring vhs to dvd onto R +'s. This is really annoying because on the R+'s I am trying to have clean commercial free copies and I am ending up with half of a commercial in the middle of a great part. Is anyone else having a problem with this? I have noticed that if it just marked a new chapter it does this but also without this happening.

Thanks!

I have an ILO DVDR05-MU for sale on EBAY. I bought it in February and it records just fine and it plays just fine, I can play the recorded disks on my other dvd player. The reason I'm selling it is I got a DEAL on an RCA which is just like the one my buddy has and I like it better but the ILO is JUST LIKE NEW, still has the plastic film on the front. I may return it for a gift card if I don't get any bids, I can't find my receipt.

Hi to everyone. I just joined AfterDawn because I found this thread through Google when researching multisystem DVD recorders.
This is in reply too Video-Pro who was surprised when a PAL DVD played in his USA DVD player. I looked into this sometime back and learned that some DVD players contain a converter from PAL to NTSC, even inexpensive DVD players. Some websites sell expensive external converters which have a lot of features. On my Daewoo DVD player, about $50 at Target, I can play PAL DVDs and they look pretty good. In my research, I also learned that most American (i.e. NTSC video standard) DVDs can play on European PAL DVD players, but not always the other way around.
--------------
Maybe this question should be in a new thread. If so, tell me. Anyway the afore-mentioned Daewoo player stopped working. It would not turn on, even though there is a small glow behind the power button. I opened it up and verified that the fuse was OK. Anybody have any ideas. There is a DVD stuck in it.

I just have a quick question on the ILO DVDR04 remote control. Does anyone know the device code for this remote or any similar remote so I can program it into my universal remote control?

Thanks Jweiler3 for your reply about my Daewoo. I poked around inside but couldn't see anything that I could do. The fuse was fine. I was able to remove a bracket from the bottom of the DVD tray and retrieve my DVD, but couldn't see anything I could try to get it to work. I'm a ham, and used to play around with electronics years ago, but with everything multi-function chips on a printed circuit board there's no way to attack a problem without specialized knowledge of the product. Still, I wouldn't have it any other way. The various devices we have today, and their functionality, weren't even dreamed about when I was an electronic hobbyist. I'm still amazed, and I'm an EE.

Hi y'all,

I just bought an ILO DVD recorder and plan to move our VHS movies, etc. to DVD.

First we have C-Band Satellite and a sidecar. And VHS player. Currently signal comes into the sidecar and then to the Satellite receiver and then to the VHS. From VHS to TV.

I think we'll have to route from VHS to ILO to TV. Anyone with any experience there?

Then I had thought I'd get some experiece going from VHS to DVD and then maybe would be able to setup a "burn" everynight when we go to bed. Has anyone done this? Does it need more care and feeding than this?

In many cases there is more than 1 movie per VHS tape but I thought it would be OK to start the movie playing and just let it run to the end but program the ILO to just record the length of time the movie runs. And the next night do the 2nd movie on the VHS.

I'd sure appreciate hearing of your experience both good and bad!

Regards,

KLESmiley

I was recording and disc went full, now I put the disc back in and it doesn't recognized it, Why did it do that, and is there any way to fix this without losing my recording?

Thanks,
Norman

Id recomend unpluging it for at least an hour and clean the laser head. When mine says unreginisable disk and I know I recorded a movie. I clean the laser and when I am not using my recorder I periodecly uplug when I am not using it for a couple days. Think of it like a computer unpluging the ILO is like rebooting. Try this ok.
Check for dust too. If so clean it out, I live on a dirt road and have to clean mine out monthly.

Hello all, and thanks for the abundant info re: ILO R04 unit (own 2 of ?em, purchased Dec. ?04 and Mar. ?05). Only bought the first one because I could capture but not burn DVD from my PC using Adobe Premiere v 6.0, and it was cheaper to buy an external DVD recorder than to upgrade Adobe. Second one was bought so I wouldn?t have to lug original one back and forth between computer and TV room. Did not need high-end quality (primary use is transfer of VHS tapes), and wanted to save my $$ for Blueray or whatever HD format recorder comes out. That?s why I bought ILO.

One has worked fine from day 1. Other one eventually deteriorated, improperly or incompletely formatting or reading blank media and pixelizing on playback in one or two-hour modes. Right now, its only used for playback, and I need to fix a problem with ?crackling? audio when playing commercial DVDs. Anyone experienced this? Did cleaning the laser fix it?

Thanks again for a wealth of information.

My solution to copying movies with a copy guard was to buy a box online or through Best Buy that cuts through the copyguard. Be prepared to pay around $100 for it thought.
