I went to a place called netmp3download.com and paid membership fee of $18 thinking I was going to a pay per download site and downloaded their Mp3 Shield (among others) program which turned out to be a trojan . When it is run, it searches the drive for mp3 files where you direct it to, tags them all with a metafile XML tag and transmits the info online to RIAA watchdogs. Then the virus detectors go wild because soon it tries to take over your computer and send info from windows explorer. Oh, the humanity!
Then I find that the site is already a know THIEF/FAKE site. In otherwords, the site is a front for the RIAA to woo idiots like me to believing their software (Etomi) works good. Well it does not work good. The site offers all kinds of FREE open source software and then the MP3 Shield, the trojan/virus as an extra bonus for the folks looking to lap up anything free that can be useful. If you go to the website and follow the help links, you go in a big circle. The email addy's in your reciept are all phonies. Boy, was I suckered. They use the purchase info to record your address, email and everything else they need to track you down so they can sue you, with a little help from the RIAA mp3 downloader program, Etomi!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER go online with out PeerGuard, IP Blockers, antivirus and firewalls. The trojan uses Java and active X to do it's dirty deed.
Now does this not seem illlegal as hell? Nope, it's all legal folks, the RIAA can do anything it wants. And BTW, the money they get from the suckers like me help finance thier dastardly operation. Be care ful if you visit this site. They use Java and active x to infest your computer. It is on the block list for PeerGuard.

I hope that you are aware that the so-called "Etomi" program is actually a repackaging of the FREE and OPEN-SOURCE program known as Shareaza.
"Etomi" is just the (shoddy) rip-off work of slutty low-life marketers feeding off the genuine work of others.
Sorry.
Why not get the original program, and join an authentic community of user. All of the benefits, none of the rip off.
No ad-ware. No trojans. No BS, just 100% pure P2P goodness, just like mother made.

I wish I knew that before a was suckered. I was like a cow being led to the slaughterhouse without a clue as to my impending doom. I use limewire now, it seems pretty good, I might check out Shareaza, but I really only need one, if any at all.
GTG, I have to go down into my basement, lock all the doors, turn off all the lights and burn yet another DVD :)

11:30 a.m.-went ot Best Buy
12:00- decided to do the movie industry some good, and pick up a holiday flick (CV2)
12:07- purchased a 25 pack of DVDRs, and CV2
8:30 p.m.- sat down with the 'ol family and watched CV2
8:56 p.m.- went to blockbuster
9:07- came home with Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Vegast Vacation, Van Wilder, and Loaded Weapon.
1:30 a.m.- had 5 new movies on my hard drive.
The way I see it the movie industry owes me money,
Compaq computer- $1200
Dell computer- $500
monitor- $150
DVD burner- $100
PS2- $300
Xbox- $150
PSTwo- $150
Wirless kit- $50
The pain and frustration I go through with all of this Crap- priceless. Some things in life are free... others suck...

hi i am a novice at file sharing.i have recently downloaded and installed etomi having paid 52usd (one time lifetime charge plus some linked upgrade)with a view to downloading music and films. i am alarmed by your comments about this site (which i dont entirely understand)as well as by some of the problems while installimg it and its linked softwares. i have a few questions:
1)what is trojan.is it always bad.so how do i get rid of it if it is bad.
2)who are the IAAA, AND HOW ARE THEY HARMING ME?how can i now avoid
3)it is only 4 days since i downloaded etomi. is it possible for me to discontinue using it and get a refund?
4)is it possible to download music and movies for free, without exposing onself to filesharing and related risks?
i would appreciate your advice

Etomi is a piece of crap. THERE ARE NO RETAIL FILE SHARING PROGRAMS, ONLY WEBSITES THAT SAY THEY HAVE ALL THIS GOOD CRAP FOR YOU, BUT YOU CAN GET ALL THE ORIGINAL CLEAN PROGRAMS FOR FREE.
Limewire is FREE, Shareaza is FREE, Peergaudian is FREE. Disable Java and active X from running anywhere, and antivitus program is a must and don't share.(be sure not to get the phony copy versions).
These sites take your money, but really only have spyware/adware/trojan tracking virus infested programs to track your every move on the internet and then throw you some links you could have found anyway, some being other RIAA fake/rippoff/tracking sites.
I bet you dont get any refund, and I doubt they would even answer your emails, if you could email them.
My friend, you just lost 52 usd!
Don't have any files to share unless you pack your share folder with useless garbage. If you downloaded MP3Gaurd and ran it, it is too late, they already have you tagged and bagged. I was lucky I caught the program tagging some mp3 fileswith xml extensions. I did have a few on the computer at the time, but I pulled the plug in time I hope. The RIAA is the Recording Industry Association of Aholes.
With the technology available today, don't even think they are not using entrapment, deception and methods unimaginable to add info to the criminal database.
I use the Windows Media center and download any songs for only $.99 at MSN music.
Most music CD's only have one or two good songs on them, the rest being garbage space filler and I sure am not going to give $16 for two lousy songs!!! But $.99/ea is actually reasonable.
I have downloaded/uploaded more than 700 mp3 songs during the Napster haydays. But i have recorded them all to DVD and I have them safely hidden in a safe dark place, behind a loose brick in my basement, good heavens, not on my computer anymore!! I just pop in the DVD and play away.
If I could rent music CD's like I rent DVD movies, hot dog, I have a helluva collection!
I think renting music CD's might actually work as a business, and then there would be no need for mp3 downloading and the RIAA will have to find other things to do besides bite the hands that feed them.
Dont waste your time downloading movies. It is much cheaper and safer to rent it.
As soon as you connect to the internet, you are at risk in more ways than you will ever know.

I think limewire works better than sharaza, but never hurts to have both, provided you get the real versions.

Ok now i got a question for you!
I use this program called Ares and they got spyware in it when you first install it <its really bad spyware too>
so I remade the install so its clean <shouldn't all software NOT have spyware?>

Just yesterday my husband went onto mp3downloading.com and downloaded what I now view as "the dreaded" eTomi software. We paid $17.88 for a one year membership to the site. LUCKILY he says he did not download the MP3 Shield you all are talking about. While experimenting with a song down load all of a sudden our computer shut itself down with a scary warning about a serious problem it had encountered and shut itself down before any damage could be done. I immediately uninstalled eTomi. We are very new to this stuff. Is the standard uninstall enough? Are we safe from this "trojan" because we didn't get the MP3 shield? Does anyone know about the site mp3downloading.com? Is it legit if you choose say limewire instead of eTomi or is it bad news altogether? Funny thing, from the mp3dl site you cant choose shareaza as a download, but when I search the web for shareaza I get a site link that says you can get it with them. I don't understand this. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated!!!
Add On: Is shareaza all it's cracked up to be? Legit and safe and all that? Should I kiss my $17.88 goodbye and just sign up with them?

You can get Limewire all over the place, but the one that is clean (with ads) comes from limewire.com. Shareaza is anotherone you need to get from the original site.
When it comes right down to it, the internet has become a killing fields. Newbie computer users are sitting ducks waiting for slaughter.
The trojan does not disable your computer, it just tags n bags all the mp3 files and sends the info to god knows where. A lot of mp3 files and programs are "fakes" or trojan/virus infested files circulated by the RIAA to catch people downloading. Yea, it's entrapment, but they can do most anything they want.
The good ol days of carefree P2P sharing are GONE.

Oh, and BTW, I tried to get my Credit Card charges reversed from the fake website, and Visa told me that because I furnished them the CC #, there was nothing they could or would do. They could keep charging me repeatedly too and there is NOTHING I can do about it.
I hate credit card companies almost as much as RIAA.

i went to mp3downloading.com, i have had no problems with it, i have mp3shield, it removes any infected mp3's. my virus scanner hasn't acted up about it, and my firewall is fine, and my spybot hasn't found anything out of the ordinary. my computer hasnt had any crashes either...

oh my god - your the one supposedly developing code and you have all this education? then learn to type.
man - the file with all 7 seasons of stargate is actually 52gigs, the movie is 2 gigs and the extras are about a gig and a half, the torrent is still around on its OWN tracker and site - people are still seeding/downloading it.
PS: their are so many pathetics things in your post im not even gonna waste my time breaking them down, but know this. it doesn't make any sense and YOU look like the n00b who knows nothing.
