downloaded scarface but the file has a .mkv extension. I searched google on how to convert .mkv to dvd but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know how i can burn .mkv file to a dvd-r?
matroska is not a ZIP or RAR like archive file, but a real video container like AVI or MOV.
For conversion to MPEG2 ( S-VCD / DVD ), use TMPGencoder and its built in DirectShow reader module. Install one of the matroska playback packs from http://packs.matroska.org first, so that your MKV files will play fine in WindowsMediaplayer or any other DirectShow based player. If the file plays in WMP, TMPG will be able to open it to make a MPEG file from it, for DVD / S-VCD creation.
Alternatively, get the mkvtoolnix package from http://mkvmerge.matroska.org and use mkvextract from Command Line ( CLI ) to extract all the video, audio and subtitles streams in your MKV file, and process them with your standard video tools into whatever you like.
