how would you like to take one of your cd's and compress it to the ipod and only take up 40 megs or less depending on the cd on your ipod i found out how and im going to share the secret to one and all

first off you need a ipod the new stick version or the old lcd version eaither which doesn't matter

then you will need some sort of recording software to rip the cd to a mp3 not a wma a mp3 or a asf here is why

if you take a entire album track by track the album reaches 60 megs or better depending on how many tracks are on the cd by doing my trick i can cut down the albums size by 15% by simply taking the entire album and converting it to one single mp3 or asf file with all the tracks recorded on to one mp3 making a simple album file out of one file instead of multiple files is quick and easy

i took a apple ipod with the lcd screen and decided to give this a try so i started going through my cd collection and converting my cd's to mp3 before on my ipod i could only hold 60 albums on my 40 gig ipod this was due to most of my albums where 2 cd's or more long and had 12 or more tracks on the cd each cd so once i copyed all of my albums to mp3 i could fit 1,000 albums on my ipod 40gig without a problem and they all work without a problem
and even better you do not lose quality in the sound eaither

might want to give it a try to make your ipod better

if you first ripped them to mp3, then combined those to a single mp3, then you most definately did lose quality, thats not really a big secret. like making a copy of a copy of a VHS tape. you're better off sticking to single-file mp3s, then use a lower compression, but use VBR encoding, which results in much higher quality files.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

by doing this trick it is the same quakity as a normal mp3

and it sounds great to and no i donot convert each track to mp3 then combin them into one i tack the entire cd and convert it to mp3 just one mp3 file no loss of quality no rining or bad noises in the background all 100%crystal quality

I guess if it works for you then great, I just don't see it as that practical. First, not all cd rippers can extract and encode to one track. The best ripper there is is EAC (exact audio copy) and I'm not sure if it can rip and album to one track. It may, I've just never looked into it. But you'd have to manually fast-forward through the album if you want to skip songs. Its like going back to using audio cassettes.

Like I said, if it works for you, then kudos. But a more practical option is to switch to the much higher quality VBR mp3 encoding, and lower the bitrate slightly.

well you can't exactly convert mp3s directly to cda files, your best bet is to do what you are doing, by converting them to an uncompressed format like WAV or AIFF. CD Audio is called PCM (pulse code modulation) and must have some format behind it for computers to support it (hence uncompressed audio formats). If you can only burn 8 songs per CD, then I assume that the mp3s you have are somewhat long? (for an 80 min CDR that would be an average of 10 minutes per song). Make sure you have your settings correct. You want your wave files to be 44.1 kHz at 16 bits. Also, most burning softwares can burn audio CDs from mp3s directly. For example in Nero, I can click on "create audio CD" and then simply drag the mp3s I want to burn to CD in the window. Then as Nero burns it simultaneously decodes the mp3s to cda format.

Thanks djscoop..I know about Movies but did'nt know about music..Got a female friend who is bananas about Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac so I told her I'd give it a shot,in hopes that I'll have a shot haha..so any way i did'nt know Nero would do that at 1:00Am this morning..so I spent all night finding a program called MP3 CD Converter.I converted 1 copulation of 74 songs to 5 Discs & the 4 Disc set of The Chain 25yrs of Fleetwood mac..it works alright i guess..as i have no idea how all this is supposed to sound when finished..i've got a tin ear..& mostly listen to easy listening on the radio..But I'll definately look into Nero..I gained a lot of experience last night..i guess MP3 CD Converter will do as good a job as any..its fairly small in comparison to todays programs 2.33meg..but if u need the space.i'll try Nero next time..depending how all the shots go but again THANK YOU..sure like these forums..HOT DAMN
