The programs and companies that do what Decrypter did and are still operating and updating are in countries beyond the reach of those type laws. LUK was located in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope we are lucky enough to have the other programs for a long time. We are not done yet.

True, true, there will be other programs that will come along it is inevitable and they will fill the void. At the time LUK! did his last update, he was questionned on why the changelog was so massive, and he stated he had his reasons. I believe his update was so huge because he knew what was coming and wanted everyone to be able to use it as long as possible. It has only been a few weeks since the Decrypter shutdown, I want to wait until the legal dust settles a little more and see what happens :~)

and while the dust settles....... LUK's Decrypter is still going strong! even when it won't do the new stuff {I'm sure eventually it will not work} I will still keep it for it's simplicity and accuracy with the old stuff! Or until they redo THE FULL COLLECTION OF DVDs out there and makes that program useless......... I know they won't! Costs prohibitive.

Meanwhile keep on burning................

Kudos jerry 746. As long as there is a market, there will be individuals, or groups, that will provide needed services. Belonging to good sites, such as aD, will insure that the majority won't get ripped off, because those of us that do will immediatelly post our problems. The beauty of decrypter, is that it was free, if you were too frugal to donate. Be prepared to pay in the future. Keep in mind, that as long as discs are being made to play on stand alone players, the code encryption can be cracked. Nuff said Regards.

Some people think that AnyDVD will be out of the reach of the Macrovision and Sony's long arm of the law because it is from Antigua. While I am not a legal expert, I would think that with FTAA about to be implemented soon the ole USofA might force Caribbean Governments to act on digital piracy.

While in the Caribbean it is not as bad as what I've read about in some Asian countries or even in UK (i.e. copying CDs and DVDs for sale), in my little island there are lots of small business movie rental shops that only offer copied DVDs. I for one would like to see the authorities clamp down on these places.

Just another point I would like to make. Which is that the MPAA complain that the material on DVDs are their intellectual property and we have no claim to back it up, blah blah blah. But the fact is that movies are an amalgamation of people and sources (writers, directors, actors). Despite the huge salaries that some actors get, how many of these sources get revenue from DVD sales AND how could they possible loose revenue when we backup a DVD that we already purchased?

I think that those big corporations should go after the real threat to them -> mass piracy; rather than the likes of LUK and us users who are the ones who give them their millions but are trying to preserve our investment.

so its illegal for me to back up my dvds? i think not. if they dont provide us with the means to back it up, then we have to get it from somewhere. by no means is that illegal.or maybe they could stop selling the burners.....

Thank you arniebear. That was a fascinating read. It certainly helps in the process of elimination, however I am not sure it applies in all regions as I have my DVDD354 settings to her's by default and Closer ripped with nary a twiggle...and I even sat there waiting for one (!), knowing that "No Vulnerable Blocks" was going to rear it ugly head but it never did. Although I ripped in File mode this time which I almost never do, ISO is my standard...that's probably why. Shrink handled it fine too. I would suspect that the PSL needs may be unique to her region.
What do you think is going on here? I think I'll try a rip in ISO and see what happens.

Looking in on the thread after being gone a while... It should have been renamed the Decrypter political forum. ;) All those pages and all we've gotten is a lot of personal comments and a few statements to look elsewhere for a replacement. (Common sense dictates use it while you can and then move on.) Oh yes, a general agreement... the "powers that be" have shafted the little guy once again. What's new?

As for me, I moved on before this happening. I got a retail decrypter because I liked the functions better than DVD Decrypter. I still use Decrypter though and will probably continue to do so for a while. (If LUK said not to use AnyDVD with DVDD, then I suspect he may have meant some older versions or he doesn't know the software, which isn't likely. I missed where he said it myself.) Since SlySoft is out of the reaches of Big Brother for now, I get regular updates. The app has consistently been updated for the newer encryptions in a matter of days at the longest (and it still works with Decrypter anytime I need to rip files to the HDD).

This thread can go on, but it appears a waste of time and a lot of repetition. The title for this thread is misleading. DVD Decrypter development and support discontinued... Not gone and DVDD will probably be alive and well for some time. New encryption systems following June '05 will be it's only problems. Lot's of DVDs to work with before then. A year later and Shrink is still going strong. Since encryption doesn't affect burning, DVDD is still viable as a burner app. Not everyone is so dependent on a single piece of software. That's the beauty of software development and the internet... if one looks around, they're likely to find a decent alternative solution.

The movie industry is like the kid putting a finger in the dike, I hope the analogy continues to hold true in the future. ;) So far their actions have been laughable. Millions to try to stop software that won't be stopped. The only problem is we contribute to their war chest by our own desire for their products. That isn't likely to stop. So, it appears the silly games will continue. Have fun recording and posting to these forums, political and technical. ;)

One of the mods has to close it. You can click the Report Offensive Thread and type in the reason you are reporting it. Doesn't actually have to be Offensive, can be used for other reasons also.

Even us Addicts can't close a thread, just suggest one be closed. If everyone could do that you would see threads closed for the wrong reasons. As an example if you didn't like a certain member you might close their threads just to give them a little trouble. Thats why the mods and admins only have that power and the power to ban a member if rules are broken.

That doesn't actually close the thread, just stops you from getting updates on it. Once a thread is closed properly, no one can reply or add to it anymore.

yeah, i was meaning, for all intents and purposes, the thread would be 'closed' to the people currently getting updates because even if comments were posted, they wouldn't be notified so it would essentially be closed in their minds if they didn't get the email reminder.

As though DVD Decrypter had gone somewhere... it is still around, just no support. You should have read some of the print on the website you found. It's the same DVD Decrypter and no support. Emphasis here on same app and no support. This is just another site to download the app and it's trying to host a forum. Plenty of threads on various forums are devoted to DVD Decrypter and there are still several download sites. The more the merrier, but no prizes for repeating what is readily available.
Quote:
I would like to spread the word and let everyone know, you can now find DVD Decrypter at: *scumsite-removed*. After a lot of hard work, I've brought this website back in a new form!

The purpose of this website is to provide support for users of DVD Decrypter, as well as any news of possible future development of DVD Decrypter itself. I do not have rights to the domain name of: www.dvddecrypter.com so I am using a new page layout provided by fasfrank web design and the website development will continue. I have re-established the forum as well and hope to see a lot of the old members come back and lend a hand in support of this great program and the people who use it.

Future development of DVD Decrypter has stopped for now and the program is somewhat of an orphan. Various legal issues prevent further development in it's current form. The program is still available here, at the mirror sites listed and other locations.

Some exploration of the program itself could result in some "legal" patches for the current version.
This will be difficult at best so I am looking for a wide range of people including reverse engineer, C++, C+ or anyone who knows how to update and maintain software programs. The original developer of this program could not legally release the source code so If you have these skills, please contact me immediately at: lightninguk.dvddecrypter@gmail.com and please know you will work out of the kindness of your heart! I cannot pay you unless someone wants me to add a "Donate NOW" link to the web page!

I am sorry for any confusion my original news flash may have caused. This website is not the original and I am not the original LIGHTNING UK! Please refer to me as THE NEW LIGHTNING UK! I am trying to bring something very good back to life and please pardon me if I have offended anyone. This site is for you!
Since LUK lives in the United Kingdom and would get into trouble for such activities, I doubt his having any connection with the work on the website listed. (If LUK was involved, there would be no need for reverse engineering, he knows how DVDD works.) This person admits to not being the original Lightning UK. With most download sites for DVD Decrypter and other rippers being outside the US, why would the loss of a couple of obscure US sites be a problem? Also, why donate to a site that is just hosting software that can be found elsewhere. I don't see other sites that are hosting DVD Decrypter asking for money. LUK while developing and supporting DVDD deserved donations to assist with his work. Now that DVD Decrypter is an orphan, I don't see why someone else should be profiting from his past work.

Rule of thumb, beware of ripoffs, even if well intended.

Right on BRo! I knew there was something up when I seen the site and it only offered the same version not a newer version! I also read somewhere in another thread that this site was bogus. You got it right on the head! Thanks for enlightening us to what's out there!
