Hello,
Is it technically possible, (for a pc illiterate like me), to add some kind of a code/key, so that my personal burned CDs & DVDs won?t run with out it?
For example just like a Windows/ Messengers password.
Waiting to hear your expert views.
Thanks.
Take care.

Hello,

Sorry if you felt that I was multi posting, but not. Just trying to rephrase my query so that it becomes easy for the members to know what I mean & what am looking for.
I apologize again.

Compress the files before you burn them,
(or re-burn them if neede).
And use a password on the archive.
(i.e...Winrar).

The only other alternative I have heard of is locking,
your computers drives but that doesnt stop someone from using
it in ANOTHER pc.

The best person to ask IMO is an Afterdawn addict named 'DDP'.
He is a computer wizard very keen and sharp,
But you must be patient and follow the forum rules,

Good luck :)

your best bet is to use the Private Message function here on Afterdawn. To PM ddp, you need to look up near the top of your window with the AD page open and locate the "compose a private message" button. from there, you select the member you want to send a message to, create a subject for the message, type the message, and send it.

ddp is likely a computer god, a mecha of incomparable high-standing. if anyone knows of a program that could help you, it's our buddy DDP.

Hello,

Thanks for the link.

Shall give you a hypothetical example, than you would understand exactly what is going through my mind.
I don?t want some thing exactly but near similar to it.
One of my med CDs when run gets fully installed but won?t function.
It gives me a unique Computer # & every time I format & reinstall my OS the # is different.
I email that unique 5 digit # to the company & they send me the password.
When the password is installed, ONLY than its full features function. Amazing....
So in a way I want to code my personal burnt CDs & DVDs so that they only play when that particular password is put, which is selected while compiling the files prior to burning.
I think now I have made my self very clear.

Take care.

PS: Despite how many copies I make of that CD it still behaves the same. That?s really amazing, unbelievable.

Hello,

I feel this is not like a normal every day question e.g. how to copy/rip a DVD, problems with shrink, Decryptor, burners etc lol.

Just not like my routine patients to whom I can just give an advice with one flash in my mind.

This is like my unusual patient about whom I have to think for hours may be at times, before planning a treatment strategy.

Take care & have a great Sunday evening.

Hello creaky,

I want your advice regarding this particular post.
What do I do?
DDP is with out a solution, except that of compressing using win RAR & putting a password.
Where & who could give a better solution?
Your personal recommendations would be highly regarded.

Take care.

'fraid passwords are not my thing. I find them the work of the devil :)

but seriously even the big companies don't get it right when it comes to password protecting things. They either make protection that buggers with your drives (ie retail audio cd's where the protection was causing problems for ppl who'd bought them), or protection that is so feeble that you could press shift key while loading a disc, thus bypassing the protection..

Hello creaky,

Thanks for your prompt response & clarification.

Hypothetically speaking, as in medicine, is the following technically possible:

When one is burning a CD using Nero, firstly one adds files etc, in those such a password requiring file be added & compiled, than the CD burned?.

I know am speaking in the air, but need assistance by a person who is experienced in burning & such matters.

Do you feel that posting my query in some other forum may be of benefit?

Thanks.

Sorry for bothering you.

Take care.

Thanks creaky,

Probably I can give my last shot requesting flip for his assistance & services.

Plextor is at the moment out of stock with my dealer, I have the option of Sony, Asus, & Samsung. I think I might go for the first 2.

One more query:

For DVDs you recommend Verbatim, what brand for CDs?
Is it wise to buy both CDS & DVDS Rewritable ones OR just one write?

Take care & have a great day!

For CD's i would also go with named brands, however i've used a lot of utter rubbish (sorry my fave phrase of late!) in my time with good results; however i prefer to buy decent media whether it's for audio or data as it's false economy otherwise. Only last week i bought 100 Verbatim CD's (Taiyo Yuden media code) quite cheaply instead of some nasty no-name discs; ok i admit i bought those specifically as they were various pastel-coloured tops, but they were still £7ish for each tub of 50, plus shipping. The choice is yours as cd-burning is more established and the quality of CD discs (in my opinion) is not much of an issue as compared to DVDs. I have used many 1000s of CD's over the years and generally the only problrms i have with crappy no-name discs is where the silver film flakes off the top of the cheapest discs..

Some ppl use only rewritables (even for movies) but i use once only. I have rewritable for both CD and DVD but rarely use them, but it's always nice to have a few of everything..

Hope that helps.
