You need DMA turned on for this drive

Is this an OEM drive that came with your computer, because the Lite-on site shows different fw. US0S is their current.

Try and free up some more memory while burning, close down some of your background programs.

Burn process failed at 40x (6,000 KB/s)
Slow it down to 24x, 16x is even better. I do not go beyond 24x with my Lite-on too many errors occur.

LOL arnie.

I saw the DMA on the Rom, but didn't think it was a part of this problem but definetly needs to be looked after. The firmware threw me though, sequentially I thought it might be newer than what is offered at RPC1.

The firmware is really new even Lite-on does not have it posted unless it is somewhere else on their site.

thanks loco i just ran roxiozap last night not sure if it worked but tried to burn cd and got error message not a illegal disk error though.

I wanted to give you some history on my puter. Bought year ago everything worked fine. contracted a virus had to format and start over and ever since then having problem with cd-r's burning.

I have used other disk types all worked fine.

Not sure how to change settings so not burning so close to edge if you could go into detail or give me a link I'll do that and try again appreciate the help

@nexxus

You are very welcome...happy burning.

@postman

You are welcome as well.

Here is a guide for resetting your DMA courtesy of alkohol: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

For setting your target size in DVD Shrink, in the main screen go to Edit/Preferences...in the preferences tab in the drop down menu for your target size select custom and input 4300. Do the same in Nero once you've imported your files there is a drop down menu on the main screen--select custom and type in 4300...done.

Edit: I see you are burning a music CD, not too familiar with burning those I usually just use WMP10 or iTunes.

Check the site guide I gave to get the DMA turned on. As for your fw I have googled and this is indeed and OEM drive and the last update was 14 months ago and you have it. This is indeed some old firmware and the drive probably is not recognizing the faster rated media.

You are getting this error from Nero

-1106=Power calibration error

Which means it is just not liking your media. See if you can try some other brand.

I would start by ditching that version and reverting back to 6.6.0.18. The latest version, which you are using, is still buggy and mucks up the works abit.

Here is 6.6.0.18:

You've got almost no resources left...it is recommended to have at least 512MB of ram for backing up movies. You can dig deep and squeeze out some resources and be alright, but absolutely no multitasking.

The above two entry's are your real errors, please stay away from the cheap discs...they will only cause you problems. Get some good quality discs like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell(made in Japan).

Hi, thank you for the reply LOCOENG. I installed the nero .18 but I still getting the same error, but I think I have to do the rest you told me. But I have a couple of questions, because I'm new to this.

1. How do I make Physical memory be above 512? some say to don't have programs running. I do that but still getting the same thing. What can I do? Or how do I know what is slowing the pc?

2. It has to be only Physical memory above 512 or also Free physical memory? if so, what should I do?

3.Does a Blue screen which appears suddenly rebooting my pc has to do something with this?

I'm burning an Imation DVD-RW. I thought that was a good brand.

4. From where is Imation?
5. Where do I look from where it is, because in the box it doesn't say.
6. From japan and what other country they are good?
7. Some good quality discs?

thank you if you can answer me.

Here is a guide for freeing up some memory, courtesy of Jmet: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56373&highlight=...

According to your log you only have 303 MB of RAM available on your system, it generally recommended to have at least 512MB for this type of work, but you can get by with what you have. Disconnect from the internet, turn off any antivirus s/w, adware, spyware monitors, system and CPU monitors and anything running in the background. Once you start the process just walk away from you puter and let it do it's thing...don't touch it til it's done.

Imation and Maxell are the pits. Here is the media ID for your discs:
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer: CMCW03 -
This tells you who manufactures the discs. Companies like Memorex and Imation outsource to various manufacturers to make the discs for them, these happen to be made by CMC Magnetics which are notorious for turning out crap. On the outside of the packaging of the spindle should state the country where these discs are manufactured...make sure it says Japan somewhere on the label. The exception would be Verbatim, they are made in Taiwan, but use Mitsubishi Chemical Co. to manufacture the discs for them.

Good discs= Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell ( made in Japan). You can get Japanese Maxell's at walmart or OfficeMax.

Uninstall 6.6.1.4 using this Nero Clean tool: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Nero-Clean-Tool-B...

And install the previous version of Nero from here:

http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

The latest version of Nero hasn't gotten the wrinkles ironed out of it yet. Bottom line is, if it ain't broke don't fix it...I never update programs until I start having problems.

I'm not finding firmware revisions for that drive. Is it new? The version of Nero you are using should be fine, I think that is the version that arniebear is still using. But if you want 6.6.0.18 you can get it here:

http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

As I've said before, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

You are attempting to write too close to the edge of the disc, when transcoding set your target size to 4300.

I suspect your choice of media is the culprit. Never heard of that brand...stick with some known quality discs made by Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell (made in Japan).

Are you selecting this speed to burn at? Just as burning too fast can generate coasters, the same goes for burning too slow...try 4X or 6X.

The two above messages tell me that the discs you are using are not liked by your burner...see above suggestion.

Try some different discs, don't multitask, and get your DMA turned on and you should be burning again.

Thanks LOCOENG. I updated and found some one with disks that weren't baught at a bazzar. It The only thing that Nero didn't like was the Verifying.

It plays fine, Only one freeze when I selected a different language. But that hasn't happened since.

LOCOENG, here is a pic of mine trying to set a DMA but unable to:

But anyway, I think the disc has some compatibility issues with the burner, I can't believe I bought it in a 100-pack

I've tried burning with less memory but to no avail, is there any other alternatives besides buying different media now ? ( works on different media )

Thanks alot

@omoikaane

You are very welcome, glad you got it working. If your compression is high and you are using DVD Shrink use the Deep Analysis and AEC controls when backing up...if your are using Recode, try the Advanced Analysis and High Quality mode (slow recording). These setting could take care of the pausing, stuttering, and pixellation that you may be experiencing.

Verification shouldn't be necessary, if you don't recieve an error on during the burn and have used the above mentioned controls when transcoding you backup should be perfect.

Happy burning.

@gabelee72

9 times out of ten problems burning are due to cheap media and burning too fast, so the only option you could try is reducing your burn speed to 2.4X or even raise the burn speed to 6X if you get no joy from a lower speed. The other factors that contribute to failed burns are old firmware, DMA has slipped into PIO, and software incompatabilities. Since we've not fixed the DMA problem yet let's not count out the media yet, you might still be able to get a good burn out of them.

Instead of using Nero to burn lets use Imgburn or DVD Decrypter combined with DVD Shrink for the transoding. If you don't have these proggies I'll provide a link below. All are free programs so it can't hurt to try. How are you ripping the disc to your HDD? Anyway create an ISO image with DVD Shrink and burn with either Imgburn or DVD Decrypter, here they are:

Get DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter here: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

Get Imgburn here: http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

If you are using DVDFab or AnyDVD all you will need is DVD Shrink and Imgburn.

Let me know if you need guides, actually they are on the bbmayo page under guides.
