I have three comps-
This a.k.a Supermachine see specs
A laptop which must be kept clean from torrent...
An backup comp, 2.4Ghz 512mb RAM - will not be used for DL torrent.
Will I have to create static IP addresses for all the computers for the ports to be opened coz i don't what to bugger up my laptop.
This Computer is going to be used primarily for getting game torrents and then playing them.
Is their a guide for my particular setup?
I have a wired Netgear DG834 1.1mbps broadband.
I did try just changing this comp to Static but that messed up everyones t'internet
PLEASE help as when I get it going i will seed all day every as my comp doesn't get turned off(worth paying for the extra 5 coolmaster fans LMAO)
I really need some expert help, I have been trying for most people new to torrent for ages now but haven't yet sorted my problem out.

ok get your gatway ip
to do that click start then run.
after typee in cmd and hit enter
then type in ipconfig
then all this info will come up
find your gateway ip.
after you have your gatway ip, open ie and type it in on the adress bar.
then config your ports to the 1 your bt program is using.

dude,
I have opened 65535, went onto grc.com and it came up with open!
Used the same method to open ports 6881-6889 the b@$*Ards are stealth!
I'm still getting speeds in the 20KB/s range.
I'm stumped.
Logged onto 192.168.0.1 (Netgear site)
OPENED port 65535 successfully (my listening port)
Then went network connections and checked if 65535 TCP was their it was.
Tried to do the same 6881 - 6889 no luck. I did exactly the same
Really am struggling to get torrents quickly, dude i already typed ipconfig/all in the cmd box to open that port :).

Hello,
This thread has been repeated many times over. One word of advice, it does not matter if you have open ports on your router, that might help you make a connection faster to the tracker, but it is not going to greatly speed up your download. Torrents are based on the speed of your upload. How fast you download a torrent file is based on how much bandwith you are sharing to the rest of the community. Take me for example, I have a 15 meg download, 2 meg upload connection. The maximum I can download from others never passed 250k becuase that is the most i can send out. Its all tied to your upload. So if you have a crappy upload speed, torrents aren't for you. You will never pass say 20k. Its really only meant for high speed connections.

hi
i have 2meg i down at 229kbs full speed and up at 29kbs
i set my 2meg to 25(not 29)up as higher slows the down speed!
you can set to have more connections
if yours only comes in at 250 on a 15meg line there is something not set right!!!
also depends on how much upload speed others have! if the up for one person is 500kbs you should pull in that! from one person but if say 20 have that you should pull in at the full down speed of 15meg
set your up speed at 200 then watch the down speed!!! if lots of sources etc etc....
my mate has 4meg line he pulls in at 394kbs!
Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Well I think torrents and file sharing in general is based on several factors like you were saying rotarty. Sometimes I can pull a file at 300 to 600 k. Rarely but once in awile. If its something popular I never go over 100k . Seems there is a lot of factors with torrent files and the amount which you upload, the caps others place on what they are sending out to you, how many people are seedding/leaching all play in. Bottom line is I would never use torrents unless i had a good connection.

Plus on some files shall we say the more "popular" ones... there is companies out there like mediasentry trying to get your ip address to try and send you to the courthouse. Bottom line is guys, use a ip blocker (peerguardian). If you don't, I would not be suprised to see an letter from you isp someday. If you are a heavy downloader that is.
