I was hoping someone would be kind enough to make a guide on this. Not trying to be redundant,I know that it has probably been posted in other threads..but only for convenience sake.

Gran turismo 4 dvd5 backup tool v1.01

This tool has been tested on
PAL version (sces_517.19)
NTSC version (scus_973.28)

it will no doubt fail on any other version.
-------------------------------------

First you need

DVD dycrypter

From here
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_...

Apache2

Sonix gt4 tool

From here
http://www.backuptools.co.uk/

Sony cd/dvdgen 1.50

Iml2iso

From here
http://members.cox.net/candrid2/index.html

Make a folder for you game called gt4

- DVD decrypter

with original game in drive

open DVD dycrypter

click on mode then iso then read

click on browse to destination where you want to put the iso

click on the decrypt button

wait for a while for it to complete

- apache2

open apache2

click on file open file to get your iso

browse to where you made your folder with iso in it

click on it

You will see a list of files

Right click on the DVD icon and click extract all

a browser will pop up browse to where you made your folder and click ok

it will then extract your disk

when that has finished

right click on the DVD icon again and click on change layer

then right click on the DVD icon again and click extract all again to extract the second layer

browse to your folder again and click ok

this will put all files in same place

You need to have the following files in your gt4 folder.

1. system.cnf (.cnf extension might not show)
2. scus_973.28
3. core.gt4
4. ioprp300.img
5. irx (folder)
6. net (folder)
7. epson (folder)
5. gt4.vol
6. gt4l1.vol

- Sonix gt4 tool

execute the tool, browse and select gt4l1.vol file and click the rip button. sit back and wait.

after the tool has finished extracting all the movies a message will appear asking you to delete some movie files.

note *: you *must* keep "20r60r.pss" as this is the file any missing ones will be relinked to.

delete these files:

pal
====
apricot.pss
autumn.pss
deepforest.pss
ending.pss
kashiwa.pss
lasvegas.pss
midfield.pss
mini.pss
montecarlo.pss
motegi_east.pss
motegi_west.pss
new_fisco_gt.pss
nursnow.pss
oval.pss
paris_tarmac.pss
route5.pss
route5_club.pss
seoul.pss
suzuka_east.pss
tsukuba_wet.pss
yosemite_dirt.pss

make sure the folder that contains the movies is no bigger than 1.25gb then go back to the tool and click the ok button.

after a while the tool will finish and you will see your old gt4l1.vol file renamed to gt4l1.vol_old - you can delete this file.

all required checks/patches are automatically done with the tool

after running Sonix' tool, you'll have a gt4l1.vol_old file as well, which you don't need.

- Sony cdvdgen 1.50

open cdvdgen select "new project" and then "DVD master disk" (the middle one).

you'll now see three buttons at the top of the window, "volume", "directory" and "layout". click on the "volume" button.

(for NTSC) fill in the "disk name" field with "scus" and "97328", and change the "license area" to "America".

(for pal) fill in the "disk name" field with "sces" and "51719" and the area is "Europe".

also change the "volume" field to "granturismo4".

you don't need to fill in any of the other fields (well i didn't anyway).

next click on the "directory" button.

using your gt4 folder drag the files in the order above from the folder in to the main window of cdvdgen.

when you've done that, click on "file" and "export iml file".

save the file in your gt4 folder as gt4.iml and close cdvdgen (you don't need to save anything else).

that's the hard part done.

- iml2iso

open iml2iso and browse to the iml file you just made and click "start".

then put the kettle on, because it does take a few minutes to compile.

once it's finished you can close iml2iso.

that's it! just burn the gt4.iso with your fave burning proggy.

- Nero burning rom

open Nero burning rom
click cancel to wizard
click file open
browse to the iso you just made
click on burn

- DVD decrypt

open DVD decrypt
click on mode then iso write
burn

then you have a working copy of gt4

tried to make it as simple as possible for all the newbies

this was bits of other guides

thanks to all that made the programs and the guides

I've been mirroring the files needed for this project on my site for some time now. However, seeing as the site is currently down (Damn Free host), I've put all the necessaries in one convenient place for everyone. The downsampling kit from Sonix is great. Anyone with a disk to spare ought to give it a try. Downsampling enables you to keep all the movies in by making them smaller (Some movies are used as backgrounds in some of the arcade mode menus, so it's quite noticeable when they're missing).

you need to do this with an unpatched iso or it will freeze after the memory card check.

I totally agree. A lot of people have been trying to use Toxic patched images (Most likely downloaded) and find that they don't work. The only way for it to work with a patched image is if all the movies are ripped (Except for 20r60r.pss). I've had a go with this after someone mentioned it before. There also seems to be a higher success rate with PAL as opposed to NTSC but I think it's really a matter of opinion and the results could also depend on the likes of modchips etc (Possibly).

Hi, i've tried backing up my original PAL GT4 using this guide step by step, all went well till i got to the final stage of rebuilding the ISO using iml2iso. When i try to use this proggy, i point to the iml.file that i created with dvdgen and it just comes up with an error saying that the iml.file cannot be found. What am i doing wrong here, anybody?

Great news! My web host has fixed the DNS problem and the website's back up as of today. I'll have a new host up and running within the next 2 weeks, but all of the needed files for this project are on this page. http://thefileforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4

When extracting the 2nd layer i got an error message saying coulding read the disc after 41%, but i was still able to view all movie files and delete them, so anyone know what im doing wrong
