Lethal can I just ask you what you recommend when first useing bt. I downloaded it today and by looking at it I'd say it'll take me awhile to get the hang of. Just to start off, I tried dl a song, but nothing. Then I tried dl an album, it start dl that but just at 5 kb/s and then fizzled out. I turned off my norton briefly but still nothing. I turned my router's firewall off but I didn't port forward. Should I have to ? Or any suggestions I should try ? Thanks.

Arite Mate.

When i first started using BT dloaded bitlord (similar client) basically, all you have to do is find one with quite a few seeds, like limewire does with hosts. the best sites are (i find)

www.the-realworld.de
www.isohunt.com
www.torrenttyphoon.com
www.thepiratebay.com

but if you have a router, its that much harder to get it goin. have u tried the edonkey...like i say its really good- most popular for vids, and its where i get all mine.
I am no xpert on routers, but there is like a big fck off thrad on router configuration tips with abou 700 posts so if u have a sift through then im sure that will help. once it gets going, its excellent but it can sometimes take some fckin about before it works as good as regula p2p.

oh yer i gt the one meg 2day and u wuz rite its well fast got a max of 138kbps!! real impressed! anyway. keep pluggin away with your ruoter on BT thing and give us a shout if u need help.

138 kb/s, that is nice speed lethal! Ok, I'm makin some progress, I have bitcomet and I forwarded the random port on my router that bit comet selected and I knocked off my router firewall, I tried downloading an album with say 25 songs on it and I actually hit around 40 kb/s, is that still too low speed with my internet speed you reckon ? Also I'm confused about the downloading, I start dl a beatles album and half way through I searched for 1 of the first song's on the album, when the search found it, it had a strange icon beside it,kinda like .rar. If I download an album or even a song can I play it on my media player, or can they be all different type of files? I'm confused!! Also if I'm dl an AVI movie, in the search bar would I put say "pulp fiction avi" ?

Lethal, the music part is sussed I think, that icon was only beside it cause it was an incomplete file. Just dl half an album and it played fine. I have to say fair play to you, I have material I never thought id get.

lol i have heard that u have to use winRar for that shit but i dnt really know how to use them. heres an idea, just use isohunt. it searches nearly all torrents and u can ype in the specific file extension in the search. so u could put in pulp fiction in the search and underneath type in .avi and bobs ur uncle. na 40kb/S isnt good enough but it does take time, mine did. i mean, i dont get limewire 138kb/s speeds but i averaged about 110 2day which i think is pretty reasonable considering the content that i get in return for the small delay.

Unpacking WinRAR files are simple. For a normal movie there should be 60-100 .rar files, all you have to do is first have WinRAR on your computer, and then double click on the first .rar file and the WinRAR interface should pop up. Press "extract to" and extract the movie to where you want it. DOne.Simple

Niceone for that info Dvdback23, yeah Lethal I'm flyin on the music dl's alright, well I'm happy even dl at 40 kb/s cause some of the stuff is really hard to get. But I was messin around dl different things just checkin out what speed's to expect. So first of all I tried a fawlty towers episode and just to annoy me it was only gettin up as far as 5 kb/s, now I'm tryin the grudge and I actaully hit 20 kb/s but it keeps goin back down to 5 kb/s, I'm uploading at 10-15 kbs. I'll have another sift through the forums and hopefully some joy, if you have any more suggestions I'll be glad to hear.

Hi, was just wondering, in bitcomet preferences I have my max download rate at 130 kb/s and my max upload rate at 100 kb/s is this about right or totally wrong ?

Check your speed, using a speed test www.dslreports.com
Then try using about 80% of the upload speed you found in the speed test. Although this usually works you have to play around with it. My max upload speed is 115Kb/s but my "sweetspot" where all my files download quick is 54Kb/s.

It is also a good idea too get protowall or peerguardian, these are a must have while p2p'ing.

im glad ur havin fun on bittorrent! the best bit of of it is gettin ther rare stuff. i wouldnt mess with the upload because it is proportional to the dload speed eg if u make it 1kbps you will prob only max out about 5. seems as if your doing ok. wats this bit comet like? is it worth trying?

@ fartdude

yeh i only use peerguardian for bittorrent because u have to upload ecessively to get the big speeds. whereas on limewire i dnt need to cuz i can have about 20 files in my shared folder and upp at about 20k max and just keep swappin the folders. is there anyway u can leech on BT? eg a speccific clent.

trust me, i dont do leeching, its selfish to take and not give. i would just like a little more control over my upping and sharing thanks.

I dont see how peerguardian could work on bit torrent/comet/azareus, etc. If you are downloading a file you see all the people seeding and sharing with you, their ip adresses included.

Think I will get this peerguardian, just to be on the safe side. Yeah bitcomet, its good enough for my likeing regarding the music, seen as I was just useing limewire and as you know you cant get albums on that, so in that sense its cool. But I can't get movies and it's wreckin my head totally, the download speed goes to 30kb/s but after about one minute it plumets right back down to 5-7 kb/s, so it's not really worth my while dl films. Lethal, don't really know if its worth tryin to be quiet honest, maybe if you got your proper speeds ! Maybe also if I tried a different one my speeds might increase! It's a big difference from goin from 117 kb/s on limewire down to less than half that, but I'll keep plugin away.

Yes true your ip is very visible while in a torrent session but the purpose of pg2 is to block the bad guys from connecting to you and d/l files from you. this way they cant get any evidence ;)
