ok i really need help, i´ve been trying to FTP my xbox for many hours now, i tried using smartftp and cuteftp as mentiones in the xbmc homepage but i get the sames error again and again,
The remote host actively refused the attempt to connect to it.
1) Please verify that the destination host name or IP address is correct.
2) Verify that the connection port number is correct (under Site Settings | Type tab).
3) The remote server may be temporarily or permanently inaccessible (try again later).
4) Verify that you have chosen the right protocol (SSH2, SSL, FTP, etc.) and have setup all required options for that protocol.
Igot the same thing in smartftp and i have read a thousand forums, guides, etc trying to solve this but they wont do.
My xbox has the samsung reader, evox and is the old dark green model.
I read that i have to change the network settings on my xbox, bt when i try to access it through the ms dashboard, i'm sent back to evox screen, same with xbox live.
I don't have a router, just a simple xbox - pc connection via crossover cable (not ethernet).
Also the network connnection icon on the left right corner of the screen says limited or nule connection, but it can recognize that something is connected (it can only be my xbox as i only have one ehternet port, my modem is installed via usb)
here´s some extra info:
i.p. / host - 169.254.126.16
subnet mask - 255.255.0.0
thin that´s all
hope you can help me

hey guys, before i state my problem, I'd like to tell my internet connection for reference. It goes Phone Jack -> Modem -> Wireless Router -> My Computer -(Crossover Cable)> My Xbox. I set up all the stuff on my PC correctly, but when the Xbox turns on, it doesn't acquire an IP address. It worked when I just had It connected to my router, I could FTP and everything, but now it's not getting any signal. how do I fix this?

I did it, it took me six hours of reading, re-reading, and trying to figure out static IP's, and making a crossover cable before I realized "NOOB=DHCP" 5 minutes is all it took me to reset my Xbox and FTP settings, and move on with the rest of the modding process. Sure it was a pain in my ass to haul my xbox all the way across the house to the router but at least it works. I learned a great deal of information from this thread but the most important advice I can give after reading all this is, if your a noob stick with a router forget the crossover cable. Thanks to everyone for the great information

I have recently modded an xbox with evox dash version 3935. I am having trouble ftping to the xbox even after following the tutorial on this site and several others. I believe I have followed the instructions correctly, but of course there could be a mistake as I am new to all this. My setup is as follows: I connect my xbox through a Linksys WRT54g router. I have a Marvell Yukon Ethernet Adapter connected to the router as well. I also have a wildblue satellite modem connected for internet connection. I have tested the cables to ensure that they work and verified that it is a straight through cable rather than the crossover. The settings for my PC are:
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
XBox Settings
IP: 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
My computer and the xbox are currently set to a static ip. I have tried DHCP settings as well with no luck. At this point I've probably been looking at this too long to notice if there were an obvious problem...lol. I have used FlashFXP and SmartFTP clients and received the same errors.

I have tried disabling and enabling PASV to no avail. My network sees the router, internet connection, my computer, and the xbox. All appear online and everything but the FTP to the xbox functions normally. Any help you could provide is appreciated. I have attempted to provide as many details as possible, but if you require anything further please let me know. Thanks...

Hi
I have my xbox networked and can access my shared folder on pc. was wondering how do i go about allocating individual shared folder to pictures, videos and music on xbmc. Its just when i select work group all the folders come up,i want to specify what folders should come up if thats possible.
Ps also how to i change the name work group and delete/hide some of the other workgroups which are shown and i dont really need.
