i finally got it to work but i have one quetion. whick program do i use to convert my rar file to ios file? i use the VcdromX program and was able to convert it to iso but i was still not able to play it. i think because i dont have the right version. my VcdromX is version 3.5 and i know my fastloader is working because i downloaded virtua tennis and that didn't need to be converted to iso because it already iso and it work perfectly.hope i explain right if u dont get what im saying just ask. thx u for your help

Hey,
I'm going to buy a psp from somebody, but i have a few questions before i buy it.
- I have read that it doesn't matter if you have version 1.5 or 2.0, because you can always upgrade to 2.0 (GTA) or downgrade to 1.5(iso's), am i correct?
- I have also read that you MUST have 1 ORIGINAL game to get the iso's working, is this also true? if it's true, will the demo disc that you get with your psp also work, or do you MUST have a game?
- Is a 2GB memorystick worth buying now? I know GTA will require a 2 GB Memorystick (with nothing ripped), but i don't like GTA that much, so that's not a problem, but will many future games also require a 2GB memorystick, or is 1GB enough for say 90 percent of the games (in the future)?
Thanks in advance.
Ronnie.

@combo...yes your first question is correct as long as you can get a 1.0, 1.50, 1.51, 1.52, or 2.0 you will be fine you can manually update the 1.0, 1.51, 1.52 to 2.0 and downgrade them back down to a 1.50 firmware...your second question...you can use any original game, movie and demo disc....but there is also Dev Hook(hookboot) V22 that will allow you to play ISO's without the umd in the drive...but try to at least own some games...we still have to support the gaming community(they bring us what we love)...your third question...you don't have to get a 2gig for gta(although unplayable...you can shrink down to 830mb...full game..and even smaller if need be)...but if you want the max card you can get..then i would go with the 4gig for $199.00(US) compared to the $158.00(us) for the 2 gig..plus with the 4gig you get an even better battery with it...
@nbaflash...as much as i love VcdromX...i would suggest UMDGEN...Great ISO creator(only if you are converting from PSP_GAME folder and umd_data.bin file to iso...)...if you have a rar file just right click on it and select either OPEN or Extract HERE..(with the OPEN option...you will need to select WinRAR as the application)...they should give you an ISO...

Thanks evnflow, but now i read that you must have different loaders for games????? I thought that you only need the latest fastload and that's it. Can you (or somebody else) tell me what it exacly is (al loader), and do you must have different loaders for each game you gonna play?

What iso are you using and where did you get it from? did you extract it directly from the 001 file or did you rebuild it?

Hi guys.Im new here.Have been reading the messages in this forum for 2 days.Doing some research before buying a PSP.Got some questions.Sorry if some of these questions are silly or has been repeated.
Background : Im a Malaysian living in Ireland and will be going back home (Malaysia) for holidays this week.Planning to buy PSP there as it is relatively cheaper and it is possible to get firmware 1.5 there although there is no problem now if u can get 2.0 as u can downgrade it.My questions are
1) In Ireland they use NTSC system and Malaysia it is PAL (or is it the other way round?).So will it affect if I buy Irish UMD games and use Malaysian/Japanese or even US PSP to play them or vice versa?Dont want to play the games in black and white.Just that I saw some ISO files in the net that would put NTSC or PAL on their description. It must matter then if not why they put it that way.Well hopefully not coz it would be a shame for me then if I buy the PSP in Malaysia I cant rent or buy any games here in Ireland then.
2)Just want to confirm : The sources of ISO files are from the net and from your own UMD games. From what I understand you can get the ISO files from your UMD using UMD dumper(built in in FL 0.7 right?).The ones from the net are usually compressed so u got to use WinRAR to decompress them.So where is the use of ISO builder like VcdromX or UMDGEN comes in(btw cant find UMDGEN software in evnflow's website).
3) What are ripkits? Are they kinda like ISO shrinker?Saw them in the net, heard about them but dont know what are they:P
I think those are my questions so far that I can think of. I probably dont own a PSP yet but what I can see from the instructions here are straight forward enough. Well maybe will encounter some problem in the future who knows but I respect the patience showed by evnflow.I think there were like probably 100 similar questions on how to install the loader and quite a few I think if had read the instructions closely and fully wont get any of those problems. But anyhow thats life.Sorry for the long message.Looking forward to seeing the answers.

1) Here in Ireland we use PAL, Asia uses NTSC. As explained to me when I was in china checking out a mates jap PSP; from a games point of view it doesnt matter about Region (someone correct me if I'm wrong). PSP movies are region based however. Just to add - I think a change in firmware eg from jap to us or euro should change your psp to whatever the firmware update is, that you have just installed.
2)VcdromX and UMDGEN are used to put ISO files together from umd image data (ie umd directory and files), that's why they are called builders.
3)Ripkits are used to remove movies and music from the game in order to make the space it takes up smaller; what's left is a striped down version of the game.
Just to add a question or 2 myself
4) This questions was asked on another thread without replies - can you have a V2.0 PSP(i.e. So you can play GTA)but also can use WAB changer to trick the PSP to v1.5 and play your homebrew/backed up game iso's, without doing a proper downgrade.
5) Is there any psp browser available that displays full html, active x, scripting and flash.
6) is True that SXT claims they have found out how to run GTA on 1.5? UPdate: according to a post on psphacks.net and sonyxteam.com, Yosihiro from SonyXTeam explains how to get GTA LCS working on 1.5. The only prob is that you have to code your on loader :D
I also have to say thanks to evnflow; as your dedication to helping people out is very impressive.

Hi
Thanks grimreper for your reply.
Just to clarify
So PAL and NTSC would not give any problems even with the region free UMD games?Thats good news for me then.I can buy PSP in Malaysia and buy games here then when I come back from my holiday.
Thanks for answer for the others.
And one more thing I forgot to ask since memory stick capacity is limited and ISO games are generally large files...maybe 2 games per 1 gig MS, is it possible to save the ISO files in a computer and then just change the files when u want to play a particular game? This mean u have to delete whatever file in the memory stick and replace with a new one. What if u have a saved game on the previous game, would that get deleted too?Just wondering if u need more than one memory stick for every 2-3 games u have...that would be costly and not worth it...
Thanks for your time.

I have v1.50, fastloader and 1GB memory stick. I try to backup games over 1GB. I split it into 2 files of 700MB. When the first 700MB file is done, I pause the fastloader and transfer it to PC. Then I delete it in the memory stick, then continue to rip the second file. After it is done, the second file is around 500MB. Then I transfer it PC. Now I try to combine those 2 files together by using Winrar. But Winrar CAN NOT combine them. The first part is ok to extract. The second part has errors with Winrar. Winrar can?t open it.
I also try to load the first file, but game won?t load. And I know that I have to combine those 2 files together. But I don?t know how. Can anyone show me how to combine them?
And how do you use VcdromX and UMDGEN to combine ISOs?

To everyone wondering where they can download psp iso's....i'll let you in on a secret....it's called usenet..get yourself a premium provider, such as Newshosting or Giganews, a membership to a usenet indexing service, such as Newzbin and you're all set.
