I recommend charging any battery operated device for 24 hours upon purchase.

The battery life is the downside to ipods. I am not convinced that the life left indicator is that reliable. I have found that if you switch from video (or the games) back to songs the life indicator jumps back up!

Does anyone else know if there is anything you can do to extend the life of a charge?

I cant think of any way of extending the battery life, but charging at sparse intervals will do you no harm in the long run.

On some devices that have lithium batteries youll find that turning the thing on taked up as much battery life as about 10 mins of on time. So dont turn on and off repeatedly

@Lethal, With a device that has a HDD or needs alot of power to turn it on and start it up it takes up alot of battery power to turn and start the thing up, especially with a HDD

I agree, it uses up battery, but if it takes off say, 5 mins listening time per charge, it's hardly worth the bother..
