Question about Primo Prassi V2.X: I got it free with the Pioneer A03 (the price was definately right). I tried the method suggested in one of the threads here with primo for DVDtoDVD-R. Essentially, Use DVD Decrypt. to pull the main movie off the DVD and remove the encryption. This leaves one .ifo and several .vobs in a VIDEO_TS folder. I then open the primo wizard and "go to it". Everything looks cool until I press the record button and then I get a message that an error occured. When I look at the error code it's something like "disks good(0) disks bad(1)...". I'd think I have a bad disk except I can drop a data directory into primo and it burns fine using the same cheap 4.7G DVD-R General disks.

I have no problems when I go the long way: decrypt - dvd2avi - blah blah blah then write it out with Ulead. Plays fine in the DVD.

I know I'm missing something basic in all of the various methodologys.

What am missing?

I have experienced the same problem.....(see earlier posting). Started using InstantDVD without any problems writing. You can download a 30-day full version demo from the web.

When cruising IFOEDIT, I found: http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/copy.html#Movie. This is by FAR the least complicated methodology for backing up your DVD's I've come across.

Here's the abbreviated version:

-SOFTWARE-
DVDDECRYPTER
IFOEDIT
PRASSI PRIMO DVD or Some other burning program

-RIP IT-
Make a directory called c:\ORIGINAL
Make a directory called c:\VIDEO_TS
Make a directory called c:\AUDIO_TS
Start DVD Decryptor.
It will automatically open the movie and
highlight most of the "Main" Movie files.
(in this case, it was most of the VTS_01
files. Make a note of this)
Select ALL the files. EVERYTHING ON THE DISK
Select c:\ORIGINAL as the destination and Rip
the movie.
When done you'll have a directory filled with
files.
CLOSE IFOEDIT - IMPORTANT

-FIX IT-
Open IFOEDIT
Open C:\ORIGINAL\VTS_XX_0.IFO (the only ifo in
the "series" that you noted in "RIP IT" above)
Select VOB Extras
Leave the defaults and also
check "Create New Ifo's"
Under "Destination Directory" use C:\VIDEO_TS and click OK.
If there are subtitles or subpictures
or other junk that show in the
subsequent dialog boxes, simply uncheck
them.
Click on "Strip It"
When completed, you'll find that the
VIDEO_TS directory has several vobs, 2
ifo's and 2 buf files. Check the size
of this directory and make sure it's
under 4.35GB.
Close and reopen Ifoedit, open
c:\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO and
choose "Get VTS Sectors".
Click "Yes" to correct the all sectors. Files save themselves automatically.
Close IFOEDIT

-BURN IT-
Burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories onto a DVD.

That's It...

Sounds great ...and if the VOB's etc are over 4.35 GB ....what happens next?

Is it possible to simply convert to mpeg2 ...then rempeg ...then back to VOB.. and then burn?

BTW which app will take a big MPEG and make a bunch of VOB?

Go To: http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/copy.html#Movie

The method for splitting is super easy. See the link above. Just use a 2-sided DVD-R or 2 singles.

You could, of course, do the decode-encode business to lower the quality BUT WHY?

Baypally that info you gave is great. I followed the instructions and all went fine or so I thought, The resulting movie disk works perfect on my computer using WINDVD but when it comes to playing it on a standalone it just will not play it will also not play on a ps2 neither.
Have you got any suggestions. Please.

hey Cobra...

I had that problem when I didn't highlight (select) ALL of files during the DVD Decryptor Phase. I suspect that DVD Decryptor uses the info in one or more of the original .ifo files as a "template" or "starting place". If I only DVD-Decrypt the files that I actually NEED, it will only play on a PC never on a DVD Player (same problem you have). I'm still having that problem with a 2-disk set and I'm trying different methods during the IFOEdit phase.

Make SURE you highlighted and selected ALL of the files on the original disk during the DVD Decryptor phase. If you just use the initial selection, it won't play in a DVD player.

Hey BayPally I did it, I think my problem was with Nero I dont know why but it just would not work when using Nero. so i used Ifoedit to create a dvd image then burned it using Prassi Primo DVD. And that was it, it worked perfect.
Thanks for the help m8 id still be stuck if it was not for your input.

Trying to save reduce the size of a DVD to 3.6G - followed your instructions.

But when IFOEdit completes the first phase of stripping streams - there are no VOB files in my destination folder.

Pretty sure I'm running NTFS and that the 'Do not split' option is selected.

I did visit the site you referred to and read and re-read the tutorials.

Still having the same problems - perhaps IFOEDIT is not properly installed on my machine - I can't play/preview the DVD in IFOEDIT either...

Ummm ... I apparently did not read the guides closely enough - it may help to select the 'Strip Streams' checkbox when using IFOEDIT.

I assume this is my problem. And I still can't use player functionality in IFOEDIT.

Thanks for your patience...

Hey 12Monkeys.... I have had intermittent success with using the DVD Play button. I was told in an earlier forum that IFOEdit on Win2k was "so so". I usually just open IFOedit and load VIDEO_TS and press DVD Play until movie starts and then "Stop" to get the Titles needed.
It seems to be a crap shoot when it will work otherwise.

Hey! I finally go IFOEDIT to work.
Ithink I just got confused between the original VIDEO_TS directory and my new directory.

Also installed DirectX for Windows2000. Got the VOB+IFO files created and was able to play it back with no menus. Woohoo.

As an exercise, I took a 4.0G movie down to 3.68G - will try burning to DVD-RW to see if its plays on set-top.

Thanks for all the help, peeps.

Have any of you had any success getting Ifoedit to split movies that are over 4GB or so??
I have tried every way I can find, and Ifoedit crashes "fatal error" evertime.
Don't understand what the issue could be, but...maybe one of you have figured it out???

Has anyone had luck splitting larger movies...if so.....what did you use, and where did you find the guides??

Thanks in advance!!

Well.....I have never used a win2k but I have ifoedit on win98 PII and winXP Athlon 1800 and it works ok except for the browse button for the m2v remux file.....

BTW I need a little advice with demux/remux of an m2v. I have been getting random frame stutters (sticking for a quarter second or so) when I remux an m2v back into a VOB. Same result with ifoedit or VOBedit. This only happens in SOME movies like The Phantom Menace and Disney titles. Its not rempeg because right after angle stripping I can demux an original m2v then remux back into the movie (no Reencode) and the stutters are back at the EXaCT frames every time. So its somthing in the demux/remux process thats repeatable...ergo solvable....any ideas?

Lastly....Since once U have a Burner u get an authoring tool like SONIC MYDVD which does PCM Wave audio perfectly........Why can't we REAUTHOR a ripped & recompressed m2v with the ripped audio (wave format) and THEN use a tool to REPLACE the PCM WAVE audio stream with the original 2 or 6 CHannel AC3?

Anybody Know of a tool to replace audio in VOBs?

Mosiac...

So...you are running WinXP on AMD Athlon, and you are able to split movies with IFOedit?

IF that is the case, then...there must be something not installed on my system that the program requires to execute this function?? Any thoughts? .dll or something?

Also, since you have been able to split movies using it, then...do you just burn the seperate VIDEO_TS folders to DVDR's? And does that work?

Reason I asks is I found another way using Smartrip to rip say chapters 1-15, then go back and rip the other half.
Then, I use IFOedit to create new IFO's, and play using the DVD play in IFOedit, and it plays fine...but...when I then burn that folder with chapters 1-15 to dvd..it wont play in my set top unit??? I have gotten other dvd's to play in it, so..I know it is capable of playing them???

HELP...if ya can!! Thanks!!

I was able to sucessfully split a 7.2 gig movie into 2x 3.6Gig DVD's.

I ripped the entire movie into a directory on the C drive using DVD Decryp. I then used IFOedit to rip out just the main movie into another single directory (like I was creating a single disk). I then used IFOEdit to split the files into two directories (disk1/VIDEO_TS and disk2/VIDEO_TS. See http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/copy.html#Movie on this one. Be carefull, you need to highlight the .vob where you want the movie split.

I tried this once and got garbage. I then ran IFOedit twice more: Once in each of the two directories (with the source and destination the same) and told it to recreate the IFO's.

THAT worked.

It didn't play in my XBox at first buy then I wiped off the disk and it played fine. Go Figure.

The Bay.

PS - I'm still having a terrible time trying to convert MPEG's to DVD. The Audio and Video tracks seem to get out of sync. They play fine ad MPEG just can't fine a good program for the converson.

PPS - My box is an Athelon 1800+ w/ W2K and it works fine. My experience is that if it won't play in IFO Edit Player OR It won't record in Prasi, then the session is bad. Start over.

BIG TIP: Always close and restart IFOedit between operations. They even say to do that on the web site. I learned THAT the hard way.

Bay....thanks for the input!!

I have a couple of ?'s for you....I am using a similar PC, AMD Athlon 1800...except, I am using WinXP.

I have not had any luck getting Ifoedit to split the movies over 4.7 GB? And had thought it might be an issues with XP? But...then I saw a post somewhere that said that IFOedit has problems splitting VOB's larger than 1GB.

The movie I am trying to split is Behind Enemy Lines..and oddly enough, it only shows 2 chapters, and the main movie is in one VOB and it is huge, so....

Any help you might offer on that would help!!

I have followed the guides on the link..and still can't get it to work?

Feel free to email me @ mikeyc4fun@hotmail.com

Thx!!

I tried XP on my mackine and it crashed and would produce poor results when live recording with my All-In-Wonder Radeon.

Try installing all of the latest video drivers and Direct-X. If that doesn't work, set up the system do dual boot with XP and see if that solves the problem.

XP may be user friendly but it's slow and, in my humble opinion, inappropriate for video production purposes.
