Hey all me again, with a lot of help from this board I have backed up my library. All except two of my new games, and one sucks so it does not matter. The other though is Soul Calibur 3. I pulled it with DVD Decrypter and burned with ImgBurn. It loads up but i..t ....is ....c...h..oppy. So any suggestions on this one? I burned at a low speed and use RiDATA disks which have given me no problems yet. Please and thank you!

How big is the iso and what method do you use to boot your backups?

Swapmagic 3.6 is what I use and its 4.08G for the iso file size

The MDS file is like a .CUE file, it doesn't count towards image size (it's negligible in size, anyway).
Soulcalibur 3 works fine for me, so it's most likely a problem with the burn (I used Ridata discs myself). I'd suggest using Nero CDSpeed from www.cdspeed2000.com (run a disc quality test and a benchmark test) to determine what sort of burns you're getting. Below 280 PIEs and less than 32 PIFs (at ECC 8) are considered acceptable to readers, and the data transfer curve in the benchmark test should be smooth upward, without sharp dips.
If it's a bad burn, you might want to try burning at a higher speed -- say, 4x or even 8x (these give me better results than the lowest speeds). If it's a decent burn, then your PS2 laser may be acting up. I'd also suggest updating your burner's firmware, if you can.

1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games?
A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R.
2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, etc.

If you're still using Memorex DVD-R's or DVD-RW's in general, it's probably not going to work. The advice you got in the other thread was sound. You need to ditch the Memorex DVD-R's for any of the brands I mentioned and get rid of the DVD-RW's, they simply don't work well with the PS2. A 3 pack of DVD-R's isn't that expensive. That's it. There really isn't much more to it.

I backed up SC3 using the methods described on this forum on an HP 8x DVD-R and it works fairly well except I cant access the COTS RTS mode and there are some slow-ass load times when tryign to enter the Shop mode. Otherwise the fighting portion works fine.

You could try rebuilding it or burning slower. What's the media code on those HP DVD-R's?

Im not exactly sure what you mean by media code but on the back there are 2 numbers: the one on the data side is: CMDR47G-CAEWMO4-019 then a space then 0406. The one in the center is: MAH692JC271439773. Not sure if this helps.

Open DVD Decrypter. Then put your burned game in your DVD-ROM drive. Under manufacturer ID, there will be an ID listed. Post what that says.

Yeah those are crap. Try something better. You can pick up gold Maxell DVD-R's in a blue wrapper at Wal-Mart. Those should have media code Ritek G05, decent stuff. Those should work okay.

UPDATE
I just got a 3 pack of those gold Maxells in the ble wrap from Wal-mart with teh media code : Ritek G05. I tried burning my SC3 image at 4x to the disk and when i tried to load it with SM it flashed blue like it was going to load but then just went to the PS2 browser screen. I tried several times. Should i try burning it at a differetn speed?
Thanks

Man I just burned the same image with another of the Maxells, this time at 2X instead of 4 and it works like a charm. The title loads more quickly and I have no trouble accessing the RTS mode or the Shop. Thanks Tokijin for passing on the knowledge and helping me out bro.

Don't mislead other people into thinking Memorex is bad media. I just don't understand why people think Memorex is bad media. It is the best media I have ever used. I have tons of backups on Memorex DVD-RW disks and they all run perfectly.

Jees, dont get so up tight. I am very good wih modding and computers and other things like that. I was simply stating that you can use Memorex media because I do it flawlessly.

I'm not getting uptight. If Memorex works for you, great keep using it. DVD-RW's are horrible for the PS2, if it reads them at all. Memorex is shite media in general. They outsource their media to several different manufacturer's including CMC Magnetics. CMC Mag is garbage as shown by all those links. I'm not giving you a hard time, but there's several things in your post that some noob could read and get confused easily. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Memorex is crap. Anybody who is new to PS2 backups should use Verbatim's or Taiyo Yuden's. Never use DVD-/+RW's with the PS2. Always use high quality DVD+/-R's.
