If you show 12 gigs and your HDD ID# shows it as a 13 gig HDD, is the only reason you believe that it is a 40 gig HDD is because of your bios? Is your bios set to AUTO detect for the HDD or did you manually set the bios and that is when you read 40 gig? Did you purchase it from someone who told you it was a 40gig HDD? In othe words, why do you believe it is a 40gig HDD?

ok, you need to find out the truth about your hd first. so just take it out and look on top of the hd. it usually has the drive specifications printed on it. so you can clear that mystery up once and for all.

and correct me if im wrong but fat32 can only be formatted into 13gig partitons right?

if you did format to fat32 then you have one partiton of 13gig so go to admin tools then go to disk management and try to delete partiton. if you are able to delete the partition then do so. then reformat the hd to ntfs.

FAT32 supports drives up to 2 terabytes in size.
From that site.

Edit: However, FAT32 is limited to 4Gig file sizes regardless of drive/partition size.

first of all i must say a big thanks to all you guys that helped me out ,
the hard drive i removed on it ,it gave different model numbers which gave different gig sizes, looking at it it told me that it was only a 13.2 gig , according to the hdd numbers.so i know its 13.2 ,
but any ideas of why is says in bios 36.5, just curios now, and do u know if i can put in a bigger hdd if so what kind ,once again i thank for all help given

Your bios gives options and that might be where you saw the 40gig's at. But in Auto Detect, it would know that it was only the 13gig model.

I see that you have SP1 and would recommend going to SP2 before much longer. You can add a HDD as large as your bios allows and since it is dated 8/15/02 you should be OK with most that would fit your needs.

Microsoft Windows 2000 only supports FAT32 partitions up to a size of 32 GB.
i knew there was some limitations to fat32 partition size. i just got confused with THirteen and THirty-two.
