Just got mr and mrs smith and it has a new type of copy protection on the disc. DVD Shrink does'nt work, dvd decrypter will rip it to harddrive but it's still about 6Gig so it won't fit on a blank disc. nero does'nt work either. Has anyone else had this problem and has anyone solved this. A little help would be nice

it's been my experience that if the movie can be ripped to the hard drive then there shouldn't be a problem shrinking it down to a DVD-5 size and burning it! If the movie is ripped to the hard drive that means that there isn't any protection in the movie anymore, that's why it's on your hard drive! have you followed the Shrink guides to make the movie the right size?

I usually just use DVD Decrypter and DVDRebuilder Pro, movie only! comes out great...... or I'll use DVDFab Express if the compression quality is 80% or better! works for me!

Should be a new rule:
Make sure your AnyDVD is updated BEFORE complaining that you can't copy a movie!!
I have noticed it solves 99.9% of the problems in this forum.

While it's true that some folks have not discovered the many advantages offered by using AnyDVD, it is also true that keeping it up-dated DOES manage to solve a lot of problems for those who have it but don't use auto-update, or simply don't pay attention to the free update Emails that are sent out each and every time a new version is available.

I LOVE Decrypter and Shrink, but they're not going to be able to deal with the newer "Crap" being added to our DVD's, for much longer. But, they can both be used WITH AnyDVD and still give us perfect results for many years to come.

I, myself, have just discovered the ease and functionality of Sly Software's Clone DVD2. For some applications, it's the perfect solution. I have added it to my arsenal of copying programs along with Nero Digital, Decrypter, Shrink and AnyDVD.

Only a 'newbie" in replying IHoe, been a lurker for quite a while.
I have had my times when I have had to use Decrypter when for some STOOOOPID) reason AnyDVD did not work (I forgot to update AnyDVD when Spanglish came out...DOH!!).
So ha ha I know all about the "new" rule all too well.. :^)
I agree with you SMSMIKE it is always nice to have new cool tools in your arsenal.. I started with using Decyfer and Pinnacle InstantCD/DVD but that .pdi file was just another step that took too much time..I found AnyDVD and clonedvd2 and wouldn't give em' up fo nuttin' . A few toys I am waiting to play with are AIO Copy & Burn and DVDFab Platinum Edition...But I have heard rumors of spyware and MALWARE in DVDFAB.. so not so sure about it.. I have used Magic DVD Copier for making 2 discs out of one DVD so it would not have to be compressed but really was not impressed with the few I made because they did not come out right (they play ok but forget about fast forwarding the second disk at begining or flipping through chapters it just made them a bit screwey).. Thats why I wanna try DVDFAB.
Anyways, now I have a username and password I might as well use them.

Thanks for the welcome!

problems as well with "mr and mr smith". dvdfabdecrypter hung on vob8, and would not continue.......yes, it was the latest update 2.9.6.2. so i then went back to "old faithful" dvddecrypter, and it too had problems, a i/o error on the same vob8. feeling defeated i tried opening the disk with "dvd shrink" and to my amazement was able to analize and encode a "good" iso. file. i then burnt with "imgburn", and "Yahoo!!" i had a good backup. what the hell is going on here???? the disk itself was in scratchless, mint, new condition. anyone else have problems with this backup???? something sounds weird here.......ive backedup over 300 movies and no problems until this one. Help!!

you don't need DBDFab Decrypter to do this film, just DVD Shrink for instance. however if you want to use DVDFab Decrypter, try 2.9.6.0 as 2.9.6.2 is a beta version as far as i'm aware. but either way there is no funny protection on this movie so programs such as DVD Shrink are fully able to handle this film

I tried DVD Decrypter with and without AnyDVD running in the background and everytime it will copy the movie, except when it gets to VOB 7_4, then I get an error. If I skip the error it will continue to copy the rest of the movie with no problems, but with a whole chapter missing. There are no visible scratches or blemishes on the disc. I also tried it with CloneDVD2, but I get the same error at the same point. Any suggestions?

im a newbie, but, i didn't have any problems with mr. and mrs. smith...maybe the media is bad on your movie....try burning something else just to make sure it isn't your software or computer...most likely though, if other dvds are still working, then it should just be the media with mr & mrs smith.

pakal2 ,sounds like you may have a bad pressing of the disc ,i was able to do the movie fine with CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD .also if you use DVD Decrypter WITH AnyDVD set up DVD Decrypter this way

To use DVD Decrypter in conjunction with AnyDVD as stated per Olli ->OF SLYSOFT AND CloneDVD

Proceed to the DVD Decrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings

I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes"

General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection"

ATTN: Newbies & anyone that's having problem,

Mr. & Mrs. Smith has no special protections whatsoever. I backed up last night using my usual method - tested/watched the whole movie, it plays flawlessly. If for some reason you can't backup Mr. & Mrs. Smith, then it is likely that you've got a bad pressed, get it exchange for a new one.

A) ripped the movie using DVD Decrypter via "File Mode"
B) encoded the movie with Nero Recode 2 with "Advanced Analysis"
C) burned it with Nero Burning Rom

That's it, simple as sippin' on a brew. Below is a very simple guide I made just for newbies, incase some of them got lost to what I've said above.

That's it and you're done -- this is just a piece of cake. Overall, it took me 16 minutes for DVD Decrypter + 18 minutes for Nero Recode 2 to encode + 14 minutes for Nero Burning Rom to burn (16+18+14 = 48 minutes, which I burned it at 4X to avoid getting any coasters). Now you can burn this baby with any of your desire burning engines.

*NOTE: remember when I said if you want Nero Recode to burn right away, then choose your DVD burner (look at picture below again), then Nero will automatically burn once Recode is completed with the encoding process.

Enjoyed it and happy burning..!!

Ok, I got it. The problem was only happening if I used my DVD Drive to read the movie. So instead I placed the disc in my DVD Burner and it was able to read it with no problems. I've had this problem before where sometimes the Burner Drive is better at reading a movie than the DVD Drive. Is this normal? Anyway I used DVDShrink to rip it and CloneDVD2 to burn it.

Hi I was also having trouble copying Mr. and Mrs. Smith after many attempts I decided that it must be my DVD-Rom so I tried ripping the movie from my burner (2nd drive) to the hard drive then burning it. It worked first try. So in conclusion I need to get a new dvd-rom any suggestions on what I should buy? I would appreciate the feedback thank you...

First try updating the firmware for your drive - then try the same movie again. If you get the same results and want to buy another drive, my suggestions are Lite-On and Sony DL drives.
