Here I am, trolling afterdawn, in the pre-dawn. Oh well...
It sounds like you don't have the XviDcodec installed. An XviD video file requires the associated XviDcodec. It is one of the most popular video codecs around, but Microsoft doesn't include it with windows. You have to get it, and install it yourself. There is more than one XviDcodec. The one I would recommend comes with FFDShow. It's a sort of multi-purpose video/audio codec optimized for speed. It has a million features, but all you should need to do is download it, and install it with default settings to play your XviD videos.
this is what i get from avicodec..its wierd i can play the rar files in vlc player. its just when i extract them and try to play it windows explorer gets an error and shuts down... thanks
regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll should fix the problem. If it doesn't regsvr32 shmedia.dll will put things back the way they were. Basically it disables microsoft's buggy media shell extension.
than you for your reply but unfortunatly not being too computer literate i dont understand what you have wrote. could you clarify if possible. thank you
