I own a ps2 with mod chip and recently ive ran into problems while trying to play backed up ps2 dvds. I copied Prince of

persia Warrior Within, Cricket 2005,FIFA 06, Brian Lara Cricket and Metal Gear Solid 3 from a friend's DVDs (they are also

burnt dvds). so i extracted using DVD decrypter using the usual method and burnt them but when i try to run them i get a

black screen or sometimes frozen loading screen.I managed to back up only Brian Lara cricket successfully and other games

keep wasting my DVD-R s. Brian Lara game was abt 3.2 GB and others are ovr 3.5 GB OR MORE..DO I NEED TO REBUILD IF I HAVE A

MODCHIP?? The media im using is SONY DVD-RWs as im tired of wasting DVD-R s.. please some one advice me asap as im eager to

play these games.

p.s
Crickey 2k5 is less than 4gb but i still cannot play

persia Warrior Within - should work
Cricket 2005 - Dunno
FIFA 06 - Needs rebuilding
Metal Gear Solid 3 - Dont need rebuilding

YOU CANt use DVD+RW's on ps2, use DVD-R's, GOOD MEDIA, not any imatation crap, your problem is the media your using.

most ps2s have problems reading dvd+/-rw. what's the media you were original trying to use and how fast were you burning? Those could be factors of why the games don't work. If you have a mod then you don't need to rebuild games.

NTSC DNAS threads.

You cant use DVD-RW / DVD+RW's. They just dont work good with the ps2, if you try using DVD-R's, it'll work better

the media could surely be the problem as everyone keeps trying to tell you, the RW discs are just no good for games.
Just because you get one to work doesn't mean the media is any good.
It is when you get them all to work that you know it is good.
With a mod chip, at least a good one, you do not need to rebuild
ANY games. They should work fine without rebuilding them, although
it never hurts to try. But if your friend that gave you the disc has the same set up as you, and his works then i would say it is one of these factors.

1. your PS2 just doesn't like the media you used. try one of these
Philips,Taiyo Yuden,Ritek,Verbatim Datalife,TDK (DVD-R 8X)
and use DVD Decrypter to burn them at 4X

2. your burners firmware is out of date and causing the problems with media compatibility, try searching to see if there is any update to the version you have installed.

3. you are burning at an incorrect speed for the DVD's you used

It would help to know what mod chip you have too.

Dude we would help you out but you're not giving is enough info.

1. What modchip do you have?

2. Is your burner's firmware up to date? If not, go here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
Do be careful if you need to update the firmware.

We need to know these things in order to narrow down a solution.

You know it doesn't hurt to answer the other questions in the same post. Where did you hear of a Magic 7? Last time I checked the recent one is Magic 5, and it is NTSC and PAL ready.

It sounds like if you pop in a PAL game, it will force the color mode to PAL.

As far as chips go, do not buy a magic7 chip
they are just plain cheap crap.
If you want something chea that will just play games then a Duo2se would be your best bet.
If you actually want a good chip then DMS4 or Matrix Infinity
would be the way to go for many reasons.

As far as finding the chip you have i only know a few ways:
1. ask the person who you bought it from or who installed it
2. open up the PS2, look for the chip, find the info written on it, and start searching the net. I do not suggest you do this unless
you REALLY know what your doing. You have to be very careful when taking it apart as there are a few small ribbons that come out or can be damaged easily.
3. if there is any kind or writing or logo on your screen other than the normal Playstattion logo it may tell you what kind you have.
Like my DMS4 Pro runs on a ToxicOS, so under the Playstation logo
it says Toxic and has a skull.

most good chips have force mode. Force color mode usualyy has to do with playing another regions games in color, as a non chipped PS2 would usually show the game in black & white if it was from another region. It also usually has force modes for your region, like mine is set to force NTSC, which forces all games no matter what region they are fron to play with the NTSC screen rate.
Also has Y-position fix which forces the picture to show up correctly on the screen. Some conversion programs will convert them but you will have screen cut off, or it will be off center due to the screen rate difference. Y-position fix stops all that.

Hope this ionfo has been helpful.

no problem. One thing i forgot was the best reason for why
the DMS4 and Matrix Infinity chips are the best.
FREE FLASH UPGRADES!
which means when ever they want to add newer features, all you have to do is go to their site, download the file, burn it to a CD
and play it in your PS2 and it will update you chip to the latest features. They also can play DVD9 (dual layer) back ups, have support for IDE hard drives, support playing DVD9 games off of the hard drive, and many other features.
The next flash (for DMS4 Pro) they say will have a built in cheat device so you can
use cheat codes without the need to buy a Gameshark or AR Max disc.

what media did you use?
you say you changed, but what type was it.
I don't think it is a laser problems because then it would also
start having problems reading originals.
With my V7 i just used Swap Magic & a flip top
no need for any other loading program most of the time.
Rebuilding a game usually stops the need for stuff like CDLoader.
Most of the time i suggest using 8X DVD-R and burning them at 4X
Best brands are
Taiyo Yuden, Ritek,Verbatim,Philips, TDK
I always like to use the DVD-R myself

I have Prince Of Pursia and Metal Gear Solid 3 and did not have any
problems with my back ups so that is why i say it could be the media. I do not think the problem is with your PS2 if it still plays
originals fine.
Updating the burners firmware helps a lot too.
